We booked the surf lessons / guiding for my wife and me. We’re both more or less beginners and needed separate sessions to take turns with our baby. The scheduling was very easy and the guides Richie and Samy were both very pleasant, knowledgeable and capable. Great breakfast, too… :)

Excellent staff. They were super efficient and helpful regarding the visa although the rules changed every two weeks due to covid. Great surfguides and every body else working there was efficient and helpful. Nice and clean rooms and relaxed chilling area with pool.

After so many years spent in Bali it was the very first time we decided to take surf lessons. What an experience! The instructors Gunung aka Koki and Richie were great, full of good advice and motivation. The surf camp is superb and Padang Padang beach is just ideal for beginners like us. They took time to give us feedback in order to improve and to make the most of this new experience. They also do photo sessions and debrief and we are grateful for the time Andrew - the owner - dedicated to us. The whole team was excellent. Definitely recommended.

As I’m sitting by the pool in the warmth of the evening sun, I couldn’t help but think how lucky I am I managed to get to PPSC! As always (this isn’t my first visit) everything is brilliant, from the lovely staff to the tranquil facilities. A special thanks to Andrew and Alice for all the help and reassurance in what is a difficult time to travel, with excellent “customer service” pre-departure, upon arrival and throughout the length of my stay. Win and all the surf guides couldn’t do anything else to help me in and out of the water, and any trip here always leads to your level of surfing increasing rapidly (I’ve seen complete beginners go to genuine intermediates in less than a week). Overall, 5/5 and couldn’t recommend it any higher - I’ve been to surf camps in various countries but I’m yet to find one anywhere that comes close to the mix of offerings, amenities, service and quality surf guiding/lessons that PPSC offers. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else any time I want to come to Bali.

I am a repeat visitor and stayed for almost two months during the pandemic. The things that make this place stand out are: - perfect location and easy access to the best waves of Bali, regardless of season - beautiful, clean and impecably maintained rooms - commitment to a high quality surfing experience - coaching from professional surf athletes - delicious and varied food in copious amounts - friendly, caring and professional staff It keeps getting better every time I come back. In a nutshell, the feeling I get here is that everybody only cares about one thing, making sure that I have the best possible surfing experience. And that's why I keep coming back.

Just had three days lessons with the Padang Padang surf camp team and highly recommend. Small groups, great personal attention and levels best suited to each guests abilities. Special shout to Christo who not only helped push me on to the wave but also came back to push me over the oncoming waves on the paddle back out! Above and beyond for sure. Thank you guys, we look forward to returning one day....

Great surf camp experience. Friendly staff and interesting guests. Strongly surf focused (dawnies, various spots depending on daily conditions etc), also offering yoga and massage(recommended). Great food also taking care of special requests (vegan). Stayed with a friend of mine and we had a great time here. Only less good experience were the busy lineups but can hardly blame the camp for it. Returning now for the third time (this time beating the crowd/not in the peak season).

I've been coming since December 2015 and it has always been great. I will continue to return. If you want the best guiding in the world, good high end surf camp accommodation, good food and good all round value I would highly recommend it.

Didn’t like: 1. Construction works right on the premises, in front of our window (room 12). Very noisy all day long, impossible to rest. Staff just ignores our complaints. We had to leave earlier and move to a regular hotel to enjoy some silence. Staying next to a construction site is not how i pictured my vacation in Bali. We were refused to get a refund. 2. Unreasonable prices for board damages 3. They change towels once every 4 days. 4. They refuse to assist you with basic things, like calling a taxi. 5. No wi-fi 4 days in a row, had to pay for roaming. 6. Not all the surf instructors are good. The ones i liked were Rashat, Satria, Monot, Amrul. Instructor Bol, on the other hand, left me alone at Uluwatu. It was my first time there and the strong current dragged me far away from the beach. He didn’t bother to check on me and left. I barely made it to the beach. 7. No beach towels. 8. They charge you extra money, if you’re not an experienced surfer. They call it “group lesson” (not surf guiding), so plan accordingly. We were not aware of that. 9. Jon Parker, the guy who manages the camp, is an unfriendly and unpleasant person, definitely not the best choice of an employee who deals with clients. Liked: 1. Clean rooms 2. Good food, not very diverse though. Good desserts, thanks to the cooking staff. Ina, one of the owners, was helping us with food for kids, we appreciate that. 3. Good massage. Conclusion: Staying at the camp is not worth the money spent. Very poor overall experience. For the price paid you can stay at a hotel and take surf lessons at the camp. People say it used to be better, too bad it’s no longer the case.

Response from balisurfing, Manager at Padang Padang Surf Camp
Responded 23 Jan 2020
My understanding of the review title (better live outside) is that he is recommending to take surf lessons with us but not staying at the accommodation. The reviewer and his family had an excellent room and received excellent service throughout his stay but there was some building work being undertaken near to the the surf camp which disturned them for approximately 1 hour. The comfort and enjoyment of our guests is the most important thing to us and, as soon as we were aware they were being compromised, we worked very fast to resolve the issue. The reviewer messed us his booking dates and moved to a different hotel 'early' due to his own administrative error. As this mistake was not of our making we refused a refund for the final night stay as we were not given any kind of reasonable notice but we did offer free surf lessons for him and his family as a gesture of goodwill and this can be taken on a future visit. It is disingenuous to suggest that you moved out of the surf camp early because of problems here and that any reports of problems during your stay were ignored. As the reviewer knows, he snapped the glassed-on fin from the bottom of one of our new surfboards by riding all the way to the beach with less than 3 inches of water. We only charged the cost of repair: US$12 to replace the lost fin + US$20 for material and labour to glass on the new fin. There was no charge for being careless, depreciation in the quality of the board, loss of income as being unable to use the board, our time in handling this such as sourcing replacement equipment and commissioning the repair or any of the other tasks that we need to undertake when such problems arise. On multiple occasions before and during his stay, we offered board damage insurance at the very reasonable cost of US$5 per day which was turned down on the basis that you would pay the amounts above for any damage you caused. We have no cause for complaint as novice surfers do tend to make such mistakes (which is why we recommend insuring for any damage) and we also feel you have no cause for complaint as you done quite a lot of damage and were charged a very cheap price. We are proud to have a forward-thinking and responsible environmental policy which includes limiting the use of chemicals and water — the latter of which is a particularly precious resource in this part of Bali — by not washing guest bedding and towels excessively. We change towels and bedding typically every 3 days but could be a maximum of 4 days for a 7 night stay. Just like any good hotel we will provide additional towels upon request or more frequent cleaning but no request was forthcoming. It would seem that after the reviewer went home he put his mind to making up a list of issues while in fact he could have dealt with such things on the spot very easily by requesting towels either direct from housekeeping or in reception. Claiming we did not help you call taxis is simply not true. We spent a significant amount of time on many occasions arranging transport for your partner and children to go to Bingin beach and other location free of charge using our own car and driver. How can you complain we didn’t call a taxi when we done better than that in providing free transport is a matter best discussed direcly between you and your partner. When our own van was not available we called local taxis and we also assisted your partner in booking a taxi using the Grab app on her phone. On another occasion, Maria arrived back at the surf camp having not paid for a taxi she had used earlier in the day. Even at an extremely busy period at the surf camp, we spent time with her helping to track down the driver so that payment could be made. You and your family received concierge level of assistance. If I could use one word to describe the transport issues we handled then it would have to be “ungrateful”. It was very unfortunate for everyone who stayed anywhere in Padang Padang or Uluwatu area, that there was no hard-wired connection to the internet following the collision of a truck with a pylon carrying the fibre optic cables to all businesses and private residences. This was an unforeseen event that nobody could predict and required a team of workmen and technicians to resolve. During this time, although you weren't able to get a wifi signal from your bed, there was a hotspot available in the restaurant area to use. When it was clear that the issue with the internet connection wasn't going to be resolved as imminently as we had been assured by our service provider, we purchased two additional hotspots so that the backup internet was available throughout more of the surf camp's grounds. Trucks knocking down infrastructure is a thing that happens in 3rd world countries and we have no control over such things and it is the government and other 3rd party companies who are responsible for repairing and managing. We done what we could do which is to provide HotSpot service from smart phones over 4G. We are pleased that you liked most of the surf instructors and if there was any issues during your stay it would have been much better for all concerned if you had raised this at the time. Our record is that Bol, who no longer works here, was not at Uluwatu that day and we are not able to confirm any incidences. If the reviewer wants to contact us with more information directly we will happily give a full refund if we feel the level of service he was provided that day was below our normal excellent standard. The reviewer and his family were provided with very high service levels delivered courteously but while we are of course very disappointed that the holiday was not totally satisfactory we responded quickly to adverse factors that were both under our control and not under our control. We accept some of the criticism and will work harder to continually improve and evolve, but reject most of what has been written as being either untrue, the reviewer's own mistake or not our direct responsibility (such as trucks knocking down pylons).
