We’ve just had a very pleasant few days at Poona Palms and would recommend it as a great place for a transit or holiday. There’s not much to do unless you are into fishing (we aren’t) but for a relaxing stay it ticks all the boxes: spacious campsites, lovely pool, lots of friendly birds, especially the kookas and maggies. The ablutions are dated but were spotlessly clean and airy, and the showers had great water pressure. Lovely laundry & lots of washing lines. Tide goes out for miles which makes an enjoyable beach walk at low tide. We were also pleased that there were NO insects - no mozzies, flies, midgies or sandflies. Not sure if it was the right time of year or just good luck. Enjoyed a burger & beverage on the deck one evening. Will definitely be going back again.

Poona and Poona Palms Caravan Park is a true hidden gem, with a 60's and 70's simplicity feel.... No high-rises, traffic lights or hustle and bustle....All campsites have fresh water and power, and are spacious, so you never feel that your neighbour is in your lap. The grassy grounds and gardens are so well kept and create a calming tranquility......All the facilities are immaculate...The bar and cafe is so "neighbourly", just like the good old days. My absolute favourite thing was the beautiful clear and still waters of the "Robinson Caruso" (driftwood and all) type beach where the sunrise and sunset is different every day.......Thankyou Management and Staff for My Second perfect Stay.....Cheers!.. I visited Poona Palms Caravan Park in a motorhome, just myself and my puppy. What attracted me to the park was their dog friendly facilities and positive pet friendly reviews. The park was clean and the dog friendly exercise enclosure set this part out from all others allowing you to exercise your dog off the leash which makes for a happier, calmer dog and more relaxing holiday for me. Ladies in the office were very polite and helpful, park was clean and sites appropriately spaced apart. I would visit again.

Poor maintenance and extremely tired facilities. Variable pricing on the day.We paid 68 dollars and our neighbours on exactly the same site facilities paid 50.
When asked for an explanation I was given a shrug of the shoulders and a blank look!
Dirty camp kitchen. Unsafe power outlets. Staff who couldn't give a toss.
Beautiful location for a day trip only.

This Caravan Park was our last stop at the end of our 3 weeks away and was a pleasant surprise with its shady & grassed sites and well kept gardens throughout the Park.

The park faces right on the water with a small sandy area, great spot to paddle or swim in the water.
Between the Caravan Park and water was a lovely grassed park area with playground and some seating if you just wanted to chill and watch the water.

The owners are clearly in the process of upgrading as there were new Cabins offering all the conveniences for the familes and this may be the reason why the Amenties were a bit tired - perhaps awaiting their turn, never the less they were clean and tidy and the water pressure was good and water hot so it wasn't an issue at all. The park Pool was refreshing and with the added bonus of a water slide for children.

No Shops at all in Poona however the shop in the Park's reception area had all the esentilals as well as Ice and Gas bottles so wasnt an issue. All staff were friendly and we enjoyed our 2 days there.

Great place to chill we will certainly be going back

Stopped for 4 nights on our way home from north Qld with our two dogs. Were lucky enough to get a waterfront site which was spectacular. Park was very neat and tidy and dog enclosure an added feature. Great walk along foreshore path and beach front. Camp Kitchen would be great with a couple of hotplates added and guests reading sign asking for BBQ to be cleaned after use. This was our second stay but won't be our last.

Poona is a small, neat and tidy village on the Great Sandy Straits. There is only a lovely Cafe/ Shop and the Poona Palms Park also with its own small shop and a new Bar and Bistro with close water views. The other asset is the Poona Community Club offering many other activities. Nearest shopping is Maryborough. This quietness is what makes this park so desirable. People are considerate and all is quiet before 9pm. The Park is right on a sandy beach with safe swimming two hours either side of high tide and a good boat ramp with parking. Walking tracks abound and a car is not necessary except to replenish supplies. Just a lovely relaxing spot and easy to make friends.

We were so impressed with this place. If you have a pooch that you want to take away with you, you can not go past Poona Palms. There is a dog bath with warm water, an off the leash park and leads of friendly pooches. The sites are powered and level. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and the coffee is amazing.
We will definitely be back. Thank you for making our stay so great.

Very much in need of a tidy up, the dog off leash, vehicles and boats with grass growing, gardens weeding, palm fronds, mowing needs to be more regular. Office signs laying on the ground, old pallets laying in the garden.could be an excellent park with prime position.

We had a very relaxing time staying at the Poona Palms Caravan Park. The ammenities were great and friendly service at the Office Cafe. Lovely coffee. It is a great no frills park but all the service. Our dogs was also catered for with ample walking areas and a off leash area. Be prepared to make your own fun which we found was the beauty of the place. Quite well lauded out park.
We will recommend to our friends and be back for sure.

How bad are the Midges & mosquito's in September.

Wouldn't say they're bad at all but it never hurts to carry some aerogard or similar. We had no problems at all in August.

No midgies there when we were there, hubby couldn’t do much fishing as the tide was to far out for most of the time. I think you need a boat for the fishing, but great little park.
