The walk from the station is pleasant enough, count 20 minutes to be on the safe side. For a 2 star establishment the room was fine, quite large with a refurbished bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are two restaurants, one being gastronomic. I had an excellent meal for 20 € including wine. Thoroughly recommend this establishment in... More

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night in April to visit family. Hotel is well placed near centre of Montmorillion, close to all amenities and sights. Parking was easy, plenty of free spaces directly outside the hotel. Front desk were very friendly and accomodating. Rooms were large and all different shapes, which gave the hotel some character. The bathroom were... More

Montmorillon is a beautiful town in a beautiful part of France and Lelucullus is well placed to explore both. The hotel is well situated in the town centre and although it does not have its own parking there is plenty of free parking with a couple of minutes' walk. The staff were very friendly and the room was light, adequately... More

This hotel is your average small town hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. All the staff I encountered were very friendly and keen to help. My room seemed to be on a corner or something because it was an interesting triangular shape. It's unique shape meant that really there wasn't much room for anything else but a large double bed... A serious absence of available hotels in the area led us to this hotel in the small town of Montmorillan. We managed to park right ourside the front door, being warmly welcomed. Our room was large, with an external balcony, overlooking the local bridge. Slightly dated, with an overkill of heavy spray cleaner pervading throughout. Opening the balcony doors and... More

Restaurant Lucullas in hotel was excellent as were all the staff of the hotel and restaurant. However the room needed up grading, bed very hard. No tea and coffee in room, everywhere was very clean but very dated. Breakfast was chaotic too many visitor and only one staff. Buffet poor with everything running out and tables not cleared

Whilst it is pretty much the only actual Hotel in town as far as we know (as opposed to Gites and B&Bs) it is really good. The room we stayed in was spacious clean and modern with a large wet room type ensuite with walk in shower. Wifi was available ( a little annoying free access type which had to... More

For a French hotel, Hotel de France in Montmorillon offers great value for money. The rooms are simple and modern and spotlessly clean with comfortable beds. I understand the restaurant is very good although we did not eat there during this stay - although I noticed that they offered a vegetarian menu which is something of a rarity in France!... More

The hotel is by the bridge in the charming town of Montmorillon. If I was rating this for the restaurant, then I would give it 5 stars, as the meal we had was superb. However, it is let down a little by the rooms. Mine was tiny and overlooking the terrace, which meant I had to keep the curtains closed... More

Large, bleak rooms (we moved because of noisy plumbing in first room). Clean but uninspiring decor and basic fittings. Quiet, bed OK. Breakfast equally uninspiring, no significant lounge/bar area. Would not stay here again (but would definitely eat in Restaurant Lucullus, see sep. review)
