Hunchy Hideaway lives up to its name – just two minutes from Montville yet quiet and secluded. We stayed in Fig Tree Cottage over Easter. It was clean, beautiful and spacious with high wooden ceilings and an open fireplace that we were lucky enough to be able to use, as firewood is provided from Easter to October.

There were generous provisions in the fridge for a cooked breakfast, also scones with jam and cream, tea, plunger coffee and more besides. The cottage has a large spa with a view, enormous dual shower and a table on the deck overlooking a picturesque pond.

We were made extremely welcome on arrival by the lovely Jess who was there if needed, but otherwise we had total privacy and tranquillity.

There’s no mobile reception or wifi in the cottage but there is wifi available at reception, that can be used even when reception is closed.

Overall, the quality of accommodation and inclusions makes Hunchy Hideaway excellent value compared to other premium properties in the area. Thoroughly recommended!

We would have given it 5 stars except for the bed. Very hard, and you could feel the the springs.
The figtree cottage was delightful, if showing some age in places.
The buffet supplied was excellent, including fresh flowers in the room.
Every thing that you needed was supplied including insect repllent.
We had paid for 4 nights to celebrate our welding anniversary, but after the third night we were too sore and tied from lack of sleep to even try and relax, so we checked out early only to be told nobody else had complained about the mattress. If they replaced the mattress or added a topper then we would highly recommend this for couples.
Our favorite getaway is still the Mouses house rainforest retreat in Springbrook.
PS because of the remote location tv is via satellite, so if it is raining you wont get any reception.

Very disappointed. Have stayed in this cottage (Fig Tree) on previous occasions.
However this time things were not the same. The fireplace had not been set up with timber. In fact there was no timber in the cottage at all. Had to cart it from the timber supply near the Office. There was no proper kindling (e.g. pine strips). Was told just to pick up debris from outside. The steps leading onto the front porch have been removed making approx 2/3 of the porch unusable. The end railing was collapsing. There was only 1 candle holder in the entire cottage and that had a used candle in it. Previously there were approx 8 candles scattered around as one would expect in a romantic cottage. There were 3 used coffee pods in the coffee machine - obviously had not been cleaned out. Cobwebs on the ceiling above the bed (actually hanging down). The exhaust fan in the toilet was completely covered in dust. Website says that upon arrival there would be home-made scones for afternoon tea, chocolates and roses. There were 4 chocolates on the bed, no roses or any other type of flowers and upon check-in-in was told that they no longer provide the scones however there was cake instead. This consisted of 3 very small what looked like shop bought slices.
See attached photos of cottage.

I am so un happy with the owner and the way he handled my mums stay. I booked my mum a 3 night stay for her birthday it was over $900 I spent for 3 nights and she had mould on blinds and the wall and food left on dishes in the microwave she left a bad review as some one would if they had a bad experience. His rang her and tried to solve the problem has somehow upset her and she hung up on him. His then rang me to try solve the problem offered $100 but never paid the money because I never replied to his message okay I didn't I felt 100 was not alot to be compensated and it wasn't worth the time so my mum went and put on the review that he never paid the money as he didn't . He then called me I asked for 1 night back his said if I pay 2 nights I can have 1 free. I said no that's not okay he then started to raise his voice and talk over me had me in tears so I hung up on him as well. His called back 4 times in 3 mins I hung up again as I was in tears so his abusive and likes harrasing people that leave honest reviews if they aren't good. He also said mum stole the complimentary tea and coffee she drank it she was there 3 days and said he should charge $50 cleaning fee as mum didn't do the dishes even thought she had dirty dishes in her microwave. I then messaged him because I didn't want to be yelled at and his just no longer replying

Surprised my Wife with an anniversary stay last weekend.
Owners couldn't have been any more accommodating with keeping it all hush hush.
On top of that the fig tree cottage, food, beverages, organized events & information supplied by the owners was nothing short of first class.
Very highly recommend. Graeme & Vicki from Toowoomba.

Loved the setting, the thoughtful presentation of the room, Roses, chocolates, hear shapes fresh scones, fireplace... just everything was well put together. Friendly and helpful staff. We just loved our stay there. Sent three nights there. Very close to Montville and surrounding beautiful places to visit. The breakfast for two morning was in the fridge, carefully put together and packaged. It was just a lovely, peaceful, romantic getaway. Beautiful, rustic with style. Thank you!!

Cottage full of character looking out into Queensland rainforest. Such a lovely setting. Fairy lights along the pathways to light the way at night, bird song through the day and insects chirruping as dusk falls. Cottage well appointed with everyone we could want, plus a few treats of chocolate and baked goods. Little touches that elevated the experience. Hosts friendly and welcoming but unobtrusive. Thank you Lana and Jack, we will be back.

Fantastic stay at Hunchy Hideaway Montville. Awesome location and cabin with 100% privacy.
Huge King+ bed with spa bath overlooking the beautiful rainforest.
Kitchen amenities were great so we could eat in and enjoy the surroundings or just relax in front of the cabin fire place.
Host Jack & Lana went out of their way with making us feel welcome. They also went beyond with welcome treats and some local products for breakfast.
Awesome little hidden walk for the adventurous down to the creek and up the rocks to a great waterfall and swimming hole.
Highly recommend for those who want a romantic and secluded getaway and unplug from the rat race.

We loved our stay. The hostess was friendly and welcoming and we very much enjoyed the fresh scones, delicious breakfast items and other little touches. The cabin was cosy, clean and had everything we could possibly want. Mobile and internet didn't work at all in the cabin, but that's all part of getting away from it all for a while.
