I'm torn on this evaluation. On the one hand, Desert Night Camp really offers good, cozy and comfortable accommodation; on the other hand, the activities offered by the camp (more on that below) seem so ecologically questionable to me that I can't really make a recommendation. Ultimately, I decided to consider only the quality of the accommodation for the evaluation, which then leads to (deserved) four points. Everyone has to weigh up the environmental aspects themselves.
Desert Night Camp is located in the desert about ten kilometers from the nearest settlement, the village of Al Wasil, and can be reached from there via a dusty slope. We picked up in Al Wasil, which worked without any problems. The very well-maintained complex is quite large, so the accommodations are well distributed and despite the not small number of guests during our visit no sense of constriction arose.
We had booked a “Deluxe Villa”. This is a detached bungalow-like building, which instead of a fixed roof has one made of tarpaulins. The small living room had a sofa and small tables, kettles for coffee and tea and water bottles were available. In the adjoining bedroom was a comfortable double bed in which we could sleep well. The rather basic bathroom had a floor-level shower.
Everything was tastefully decorated in the idealised Arabic style, so the “bedouin style tent” atmosphere promised on the website was actually able to rise a little. However, I wouldn’t want to describe the accommodation as “luxurious” (the hotel homepage continues).
For dinner (included) a very large buffet with numerous tasty mostly Arabic dishes was offered. We were impressed by the variety of delicious desserts. The breakfast buffet was similarly extensive and of decent quality. Star cuisine is not to be expected here, however.
There was nothing to complain about in the staff, but the “superb service” advertised on the website was perhaps lacking that certain something.
Now to the “activities”: Around the camp, numerous noisy motor vehicles (off-road vehicles, quad bikes, motocross bikes) race through the dunes, causing massive damage to vegetation and wildlife, regardless of the fragile ecosystem. Places that have no tyre marks are hardly found in the surrounding area. Calm doesn't come until late at night.

I would like to point out that my opinion takes into great consideration the fact that the location... like the others in this area... is located in the middle of the Omani desert and therefore providing a good level of service in areas like this is certainly much more complicated than in other more “urbanized” ones. Having said that, I absolutely recommend this hotel which has large, comfortable rooms and very beautiful and characteristic common spaces. The service staff is friendly, the buffet dinner is rich, varied and of excellent quality, the breakfasts are equally rich and varied, especially the savory ones. The hotel offers its guests guided tours of the wonderful desert dunes aboard comfortable 4X4s.

Beautiful structure in the middle of the desert, well furnished rooms equipped with all amenities while maintaining the traditional style. Friendly and very helpful staff, as soon as you arrive they offer you coffee and give you a fresh wipe. At sunset they take you to the dunes (included in the price). There are excursions for all tastes at reasonable prices. Unfortunately having gone in low season we could not enjoy breakfast and dinner buffet, but we were served a set menu (included in the price) good. Highly Recommendation, we will definitely be back!

Overall, the value for money for this alleged 5* resort is not right at all. Because not at all 5 stars was e.g. the Deluxe Room, which was very small and simply furnished, with sanitary area that would have cost us overcoming to use. The door lock didn't work and the door didn't quite fit into the frame either. Simple pole to hang up for clothes. It all seemed decrepit. Reception little attentive. More of a clearance. Luggage is transported to the room. Our complaints were only addressed after we had contacted the organizer. Previously, everything was supposedly occupied. We were then able to trade the alternative made possible, a pool villa for first 350 OMR ( about 870 CHF ) per night ( ! ) at a reasonable price. The villas are pleasant large tents with solid walls, with or without pool. Nicely decorated. Dinner and breakfast are served buffet style in an indoor restaurant on the premises. At breakfast a non-Oman coffee must be paid extra with 2.50 OMR ( about 6.50 CHF )! At CheckIn we asked if we could reserve for dinner, which was denied. Reservations would generally not be possible. When we arrived for dinner, "Reserved" signs were posted on all seats outside. Only indoors on the uncomfortable chairs/tables, and additionally outside the terrace set up in the sand we could still find a place. Far from the action. You felt like you were at the cat table. In the future, we would rather prefer the new resorts that have emerged nearby. This one felt more like an attack.

Nice well-appointed spacious rooms with air conditioning. If you are looking for a quiet, remote ecolodge in the desert to soak in the desert ambiance and watch the stars, this is not the place. This is actually more of an activity focused tourist location geared toward activities like ATVs, dune busting, camel rides, outdoor movies, a children’s play area and dune surfing. Expect noise and vehicles everywhere (this is not the only activity camp in the area) until late in the evening (with a few parties continuing until well after midnight). Choose your spot to watch the sunset carefully so you don’t find yourself in the middle of an ATV run. There is a bit of selling pressure to use their upgrade services like the spa. On the positive side the dinner is an excellent buffet with a wide selection and there is live Omani music that is very entertaining.

My wife and I spent two nights at Desert Nights Resort on a trip to Oman 🇴🇲. This is probably the right amount of time to stay as the number of activities (e.g., sunset watching, quad ride, dune bashing) is relatively limited and the hotel shows almost no sign of life during the day. Desert Nights Resort claims to be in the desert but is actually located quite close (about 10 kilometres) to a small city, which is, by the way, visible from the hotel. That was the first frustration for us. The second frustration was the serious glitch that occurred upon arrival. We had booked two nights in a Pool Villa, which, as the name suggests, offers a small private pool at the back of the room, a very pleasant feature after riding for a day on the desert roads. But because of a booking mistake, the Pool Villa was only available for one night. However, we were told nothing about this and were taken directly to a Premium Villa, which had no pool. What followed was haggling, negotiations, and discussions on compensation, which is not what you want to do on holidays. We finally managed to stay at the Pool Villa, but dealing with the issue was very unpleasant. The bungalow, in the shape of a tent, was very spacious and comfortable but started showing signs of worn and maintenance issues. Room lighting was clearly insufficient, which made reading in bed very difficult. The third frustration was with food. Not so much about quality, but about the organisation of the food and beverage service. Breakfast and dinner were served at a buffet, which, when the hotel was full, looked more like a canteen than a luxury resort. Service was non-existent, and extras, such as freshly squeezed orange juice (~ 6.2 £) were overpriced. Overall, the main issue with Desert Nights Resort, in my view, is the major disconnect between what it claims to be and charges for, i.e., a luxury desert resort and what it actually is. I'm wondering if the change in the resort management from Kempinski to an Omani group has to do with this. Anyway, should we come back to the area, we would certainly try to find an alternative.

We stayed at Desert Nights Camp for 1 night last week to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We had an unforgettable stay - from start to finish the service was impeccable and we felt so well looked after. On arrival, we were driven over to our pool villa which was decorated with balloons and flowers for our arrival! This was a really exceptional effort as the team drove almost 40km out to get hold of fresh flowers in the desert!!! The room was clean and comfortable, and the pool in the villa was a very luxury touch to our desert camping experience. We arrived at the camp in the late afternoon and after a long drive we were offered a discounted rate for the spa for our first day, where we had an AMAZING Balinese massage - we are avid spa goers and this truly was one of the best massages we've ever had. We were then driven up to the dunes to watch the sunset. This experience was truly beautiful and nothing like we have ever seen before :) We made our way back to the camp after sunset and enjoyed a drink in the restaurant, where there was a live Omani music band singing whilst others ate. We then went back to our room as the team had arranged a private dinner for us - this was another tremendous effort as the team went the extra mile to make both Omani and Indian food for us once they came to know of our heritage and to make us feel at home; there was so much food, they truly went over and above! The night in the desert was probably the best part of the camping experience, especially dining under the stars. The next day we woke up early to head for breakfast which was buffet style and then went straight off for sand boarding and dune bashing before it got too hot. The camp drivers made you feel so safe and took all of our photos and videos for us, he even let us drive up the dunes! Overall, our stay here was an unforgettable one and we will most certainly be back. Thank you to the whole team at The Desert Nights Camp for making our stay and unforgettable one!

Well organized camp, the tents are quite far from each other, so no noise pollution. Excellent bedding, efficient air conditioning and not noisy. Excellent dinner at the restaurant with an efficient butler. Quality cuisine and presence of Indian and Sri Lankan chefs. Varied buffet for dinner and breakfast.

First up, I enjoyed my 3 nights here. It’s comfortable, it’s well located just 2 hours in a 4x4 from Muscat and it facilitates magical personal moments lost in a wonder that is created by the rising and setting sun. The Dunes are impressive. The camp seemingly runs like clockwork - a sure blueprint for all that is Six Sigma efficiency at it best. But with that comes a degree of disconnect, staff to guests. Hold on to your dinner plate if you don’t want it whisked away as soon as your last morsel is digested and hang on to your hat as the ‘team’ of cleaners swoop in to clean/freshen/top up your accommodation ! The Deluxe Villa is great - decent bed, decent bathroom ( a little tired ), good sitting area and most appreciated, an outside personal terrace with decent sun furniture. But ‘Deluxe’ might be a little overstating ! Food-wise, whilst there’s an ‘a la carte’ offering, the buffet set up makes sense in the context of early morning starts and later nights, subject to flexing itineraries. Quality is good, choice excellent and there’s plenty of it. What the dining ‘experience’ lacks in intimacy, it makes up for in satisfied bellies 😬 Notable is a distinct change in atmosphere when the camp is full ( weekends ) which was the case on my first night. It felt busy, it was busy. The next 2 nights saw the circa 180 guests drop to around 30…and a calmness descended. In summary, I’d recommend this place for 2 nights, over which an understanding of ‘the desert’ can be more than appreciated.
