This remote camp provides comfortable accommodations in a desert setting with great views of the sand dunes and amazing sunrise and sunset views. My wife and I also had the “dune bashing” experience which was truly exhilarating!
Note that visitors will likely arrive to the camp in 4x4 SUVs due to the driving conditions in the Wahiba Sands. Once we arrived, the staff of the Arabian Oryx Camp warmly greeted us and provided the traditional snack of dates, which were delicious.
We then went on a “dune bashing” adventure, enjoyed a gorgeous sunset over the sand dunes before heading back to the camp.
The rooms are Bedouin style “tented accommodation. They are not luxurious, but are very comfortable with most of the comforts of a hotel room and some not provided in most hotels. We stayed in “F1” which had an open porch with seating. Inside, we had two full beds, a seating area and desk area. The bathroom had a water tank which we made sure was on so that we would have hot water for our showers. There were also plenty of electric outlets for our devices—just make sure to bring your adapters/converters. As with virtually all accommodation in this part of the world, there was a Qibla and a prayer rug in the closet. A complimentary coffee/tea service was provided along with complimentary water. There was also a complimentary bottle of water provided.
Note that wifi is only available near the reception area. However, I have a mobile wifi that worked fine throughout Oman.
A short walk from F1 was the eating hall where we had dinner and breakfast. Dinner was quite good. There was a buffet selection of a variety of salads, grilled meats, fish, French fries and desserts. I had salad, grilled camel kebabs, French fries and a couple of traditional Omani desserts. The camel was particularly delicious! The breakfast had a variety of more healthful options including fruit, cereals, boiled eggs, baked goods and juices. I had a mini croissant, fruit, olives and cheese. Before leaving I had to say hello to the Oryx who are located on site—such beautiful animals. There are also camels in pens on the camp. We bid our farewells and were off to our next adventure in Oman.

It was a nice experience. The camp was very clean and the rooms were spacious, each with their own bathroom complete with accessories. We asked for a triple and once we got there they offered us an upgrade. We ate well both in the evening and at breakfast. At our request they picked us up from the airport and took us back to Muscat the next day. The package also included an excursion into the desert to admire the sunset and the next day a visit to the Wadi Bani Khalid oasis and for the same price they also took us to the city of Sur. Noman, the manager at the reception, very professional and kind and we can say the same of our companion Khattab (this is his surname, I don't know how to write his name).

We stayed at the Arabian Oryx Camp as part of a Gate1 tour. The camp is typical of many dessert camps in the area and it was quite adequate for one night. The rooms are individual stone cottages with all of the amenities you would expect for most hotels. Make sure you get good directions to your room initially as the numbering system can be confusing. The camp has an excellent dining area which served breakfast and dinner. There are no alcoholic beverages available at the camp.
Due to the remote location of the camp, there was no internet connection and the phone service was sketchy at best.
The air conditioning and hot water for showers was great. Be sure to turn on the water heater before you want to shower. It takes a few minutes.
This was a very comfortable camp in a wonderful setting.

The location of this “hotel” is great in that it is right at the bottom of one of the dunes, which I ran down after our SUV adventure. Each room is in it’s own structure that is locked with a padlock. The spacious room was decorated in Bedouin style. The large bathroom has a truly walk-in shower with no curtain, and when the shower is used water sprays around the toilet area and needs to be wiped up if you don’t want to slip on the floor in the middle of the night. Hot water was limited. Some surfaces were dusty. The bed was quite firm and the towels provided were like sandpaper. The buffet for breakfast and dinner had lots of choice but of so-so quality - the meats were very tough. WiFi is only available at certain hotspots. This place was fine for one night of roughing it, but I wouldn’t want to stay here for long.

Rented a tent with my son for a night in February. The heater was not working and I told them twice about it. The receptionist did nothing about it. He actually said that he knew that four tents had damaged heaters. I assume it was my turn to get one of them!!! Can you believe it!!! They simply charged the full rate for a tent with no heater and no apologies even! Poorly done wiring is all over the place around the tent including the heater- a real health and safety hazard. The cafe attendant almost refused to give me my lunch when I told him I wanted to take the food to the tent. Not sure why. Aren't the tents under the same management? He agreed only after I told him I was using my car. BTW, there are no numbers on the tents so basically you cannot order anything over the phone! Go somewhere else and save yourslef the hassle and poor reception and service (and potential electricution). Never again.

There are more than a dozen of these desert camps in the Wahiba Desert and Arabian Oryx is certainly not the most glamorous. It is slightly faded, but still more than acceptable. I got bungalow C3 which is a free standing small building with large room, large bed, no wifi, no TV. There was a strong unpleasant smell in the bathroom, which was basic with walk-in shower and poor toiletries provided. Dinner is a large outdoor buffet with a really good selection of BBQ and other food. Breakfast is indoors and could be a lot better - but they had nice porridge and an egg station. Outside the reception there are some oryx and gazelles in pens. The camp is surrounded by the golden desert : you only have to drive up the sandhill to start your "dune bashing".

Very nice camp in the desert, rooms are nice with very comfortable beds, you can have a good night sleep as there is no noise in the desert. At night you can have dinner outside under the stars and the buffet is enormous with all types of food, you will surely find something you like. Enjoyed the big sitting area, partly indoor and the wifi. Love the premium Deluxe rooms with a private terrasse and a large bay window overlooking at the sand dunes.

The camp is in a very suggestive location, right at the foot of a large dune, which you can walk up in the evening to enjoy the sunset. The rooms, of three different types, are quite comfortable even if spartan. The only flaw is cleanliness, which is lacking. Varied and abundant buffet dinner, breakfast always more limited buffet.

Beautiful place in the middle of the desert, excellent rooms and general organization. The experience of the typical dinner with live local music was beautiful, the breakfast was normal and the bar was beautiful with a wide choice of desserts. Too bad for the almost total absence of the Wi-Fi signal. The route to get there is worth the stay

We liked the bungalows, as they were very well equipped and comfortable. We were the only 3 people in the camp, so the selection of food offered both for dinner and breakfast was not excessive, but we can understand the limitations related to the pre-season visit. The WiFi is available only close to the reception and dining area, but the signal is good. Nice place to experience a night in the desert with camels walking around the camp.

Bonjour.
