We really enjoyed staying here and wish we hadn’t booked so many tours; it would’ve been nice to just hang out. The location is a few kilometers outside of Madalena, but it was just a €7 cab ride to town. The setting is beautiful- you have the Atlantic with a swimming hole just outside the front gate. Inside there are rooms made of volcanic rock. There are plenty of little private alcoves on the property to sit and relax. There is also indoor sitting area with two hammocks. Our room (#3) wasn’t large but cozy. The walls were all volcanic rock. There was air conditioning, but we just opened all the windows and the breezes off the Atlantic kept the room cool. The owner is very engaged and works alongside her staff. Breakfasts were adequate and the WiFi was good.

I couldn't have made a better choice. The location in front of the natural pool, the charm of staying in a house with typical Pico architecture, the good taste of the decoration of the room and common areas, the quality of the bath/hygiene products, the quality of the bed linen and the excellent breakfast. Everything perfect. I cannot fail to mention the kindness of Luisa, the person responsible for the place. He received us in an extremely attentive, polite and helpful manner. The affection with which guests are welcomed is a differentiator. In addition to your entire support team. The place also has an incredible swimming pool and has its own vineyards planted in the traditional way of Pico Island, which allows you to have close contact with Pico wine culture. It is also possible to taste excellent wines made from these grapes harvested there. At night it was possible to enjoy the spectacle of the flights and hear the peculiar sound of the Shearwaters, a bird symbol of the Azores. Sensational.

You feel you’re inside a postcard when you stay at Pocinho Bay.
We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting the island with the goal of climbing Pico. The location is absolutely unique, right by the water, near a natural pool, and with the most amazing views of Faial - the island opposite Pico. It is also located in an area that is protected and considered a world landmark - the pico vineyards, which are planted in between blocks of lava rocks and very very close to the sea. In the evening you can hear all the sea birds singing which is also a unique experience. The hotel is small and run by a super friendly and charming couple who will welcome you exceptionally well. Luisa was extremely helpful giving us tips of where to go for dinner or visit and about our hike to climb pico. The decoration is also very unique, with artefacts and photos from all over the world, collected by the owners themselves. The service is friendly and efficient. Anabela always available to help. Breakfast was excellent. The highlights for me were the eggs cooked on demand, the coffee, the homemade cake, the local cheese and the fruit salad. Overall our experience was excellent and we plant to be back when we visit pico again.

Ofcourse during covid-times you expect a hotelier to be flexible and 'play the game' in case you can't reach your destination because the borders are closed. But this hotelier has nothing to do with you and the travelban in your country. So moving the date is impossible, asking for a refund is inappropriate. So be careful before confirming your booking. Hotel only offers non-refundable rates and non-refundable really means that NOTHING IS POSSIBLE

The best hotel in all the Azores. The atmosphere and character were something special. The room was our own building, beautifully decorated - the grounds and pool areas were serene and peaceful. This hotel is located right on the coast and a short drive from the city. This experience was one of our top highlights in our 17 day trip around the Azores. The owners were extremely helpful and accommodating. This is a one-of-a kind place and will always hold a special place in our travel memories.

We stayed 3 nights in the Villa in August 2020 with our family of 4. Pocinhobay is a wonderful place, the villa is huge (even for a family of 4) it offers more space than you might need on holliday, it’s fully private, beautifully furnished and decorated and in the middle of nature. The reception by the owners is very warm and friendly, the breakfast is served in the villa and is of high quality with good local products and offers enough variation ( different breakfast every day). The cleaning is well done and always at the right time. (There is no turndown service) The direct access to a lovely bay where you can swim (which is rare on Pico) is certainly a plus, our kids loved it. Luisa knows the best places to go for dinner and made perfect reservations for us. Overall we had a great stay and we will definitely come back.

If you are looking for a place to really feel like you are on vacation and out of the "rat race", I would honestly recommend this beautiful place. The only request that I made was for feather pillows, which I really need to sleep well. And I got them. However there is so much more to appreciate here. Daily healthy breakfast buffets for starters. A relaxing pool that never seemed to be busy when we used it. Oceanside views and the call of their famous Shearwater birds, which might freak out some people, but I found their calls to be quite unique and charming. You are also steps away from an ocean swimming area, which is nice, but note that the water is pretty cold. Very nice hosts of this expansive property, which also is home to their own vineyard, which you can walk around and see. BTW, it's stunning. The room was comfortable, although mind you, the bed is quite firm. You can also schedule a massage with a little notice, but we did not have time to do that on this trip. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely and very stylish venue, right at the seaside in the midst of Unesco heritage recognised pico vineyards. The well-travelled owners and their great staff make your stay more than worthwhile. If you are looking for a small scale cosy stay on Pico, this is the place to be. Plse note that the Hotel has no restaurant (it does serve a great breakfast though!), but nearby Madalena has many of them and recommendations are at hand in your room.

Beautiful property run by a very welcoming and friendly couple, in the heart of the Pico vineyards. Great common areas while feeling alone in the world if you want to. Direct access to the ocean. Very good breakfast. Nothing wrong, beautiful place.

There are so many good and bad things about this hotel.
The decor is upmarket - the service and facilities are less so. No 24 hour reception, no room service, no restaurant, no kettle or bottled water in the rooms, no products in the bathroom. There is an immaculately kept pool and garden, a beautiful cove on the other side of the boundary wall and a lot of bizarre sea birds that make indescribable eerie noises at night. I can't speak for all the rooms, but our room was incredibly humid, musty and damp. It was such a beautifully decorated room but felt like sleeping in a basement - even the clothes in my suitcase were severely damp after the first night. The breakfast is lovely and varied and all fresh, although not much by the way of hot food; the coffee is excellent.
There is also an outrageously expensive honesty box in the communal area which is the only way to get hot water for tea (5 euros for a tea bag and a couple of cookies seems very steep, even if you are miles from anywhere).
The most important thing to note is that it's not a hotel. This is the owners' home, with the outbuildings converted into self-contained rooms.
Unfortunately, we learnt this definition very clearly one evening when returned at 9 pm from a long day's walk and realised we had left the key in our room - there were no members of staff on site to let us in past the boundary wall and into our cottage. It took 3 hours to track down the owners' mobile number and for them to drive over to let us in. We were freezing cold and frustrated by the time we crawled into bed at midnight, but the chap who let us in was so nice that we decided to forget all about it.
However the reception we got from the owner in the morning was unbelievable - she couldn't even manage to say that she was sorry we had had that experience. She decided to start out by contesting the amount of time we had been waiting (it was definitely 3 hours, we were so cold and tired that we were counting the minutes!) saying that the whole incident was our fault and that her husband hadn't had a chance to eat dinner before he had to leave at 11 pm to drive back home to let us in.
It was then that she kindly explained the definition between the service you expect at a hotel, and the service you can expect at her establishment. I could be forgiven for expecting a member of staff to be on site at least up to 11 pm when you're paying 150 euros a night. I would also expect the cleaner to be proactive enough to see that we had left the key on the table and preempt the problem. The owner's argument was that she had given us a business card with her mobile number (which in the end she admitted that she hadn't), which we should have kept with us at all times.
During our stay another guest made a complaint about a broken shower - again the owner was dismissive and unhelpful. Her solution was that the cleaner would clean up every time it leaked.
My biggest issue with this place is management. My family owned a similar small business in the UK so I have a certain idea in my mind of customer care - being told that being shut out for 3 hours was entirely our fault because no-one was on duty is not the type of service I expect, for this price. If the accommodation was cheap, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. I also don't believe it's impossible to have a member of staff or responsible person on site 24 hours a day, even if you are a small business. I also think they should give serious consideration to investing in some de-humidifiers.
I don't feel comfortable about writing bad reviews because you can never put all the facts and background into this amount of space, but I do believe that the owner has to put some work into customer relations. It may be that she doesn't mean to give offence and that she just has a very, very, very unfortunate manner. But if she had shown just a fraction of the understanding and concern that her husband had, instead of pointing fingers, I would have left with some really lovely memories of this place.
