As the story goes, the mythical Lamarck University or Lam U was named after the French scientist Jean Baptiste Lamarck and was devoted to the study of all things natural until it was closed in 1975. Fortunately, Lam U has been resurrected to her former glory by the vigorous entrepreneurs of Vietnam's Sun Group and the starchitech, Bill Bensley in the form of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay. This hotel in Phu Quoc, Vietnam is unlike any other hotel or resort in Vietnam. It features 5-star luxury, a quirky style and an unparalleled location on the pristine beaches of Phu Quoc.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Our girls getaway trip was so relaxing. Before we arrived, I was in email correspondence with the team, they were all so helpful and speedy in response. Special thanks to Jayden and the lovely Huong who helped us arrange all of the activities and especially squeezed out a boxing class for us. We arrived our room to find a lovely handwritten note by the GR team and some lovely macaroons. It was a sweet touch because we hadn’t requested any special occasion, but from our email correspondence they knew it was a friends’ reunion trip. Our room also had a beachfront access which was amazing. Every morning we would wake up, stroll out to catch the sunrise, then walk back to our room to catch up on sleep. All of the activities offered on site were amazing. Thanks to Ha our sunrise yoga teacher (we wished they could utilize their advantage of the beach and host yoga sessions on the beach instead), Phi our boxing coach, and special shoutout to Tai the person who helped us on the beach with SUP and kayak activities. He was SO warm and helpful, the best actually, he helped us take so many photos while we were in the water and even videoed the process of us paddling the SUP without us asking. He also proactively helped most the sun beds closer to the water so that we could sun tan, offering us water and helping us take beverage orders. We went to the same beach again the next day but the two male attendants that day were disappointing compared to the level of pampering we received from Tai the day before. We really missed him. The only part that we did not like about the property was the Chemistry Bar. We redeemed my 2 complimentary Titanium drinks voucher there, and we ordered additional food that we paid to go along with our drinks. We already remarked that my friend is allergic to cilantro but they still served cilantro in both of our dishes. The staff there were lethargic, not hospitable, not eager to solve our problems. When we tried to get the bill, we could not find anyone so I walked to the counter to settle only to find 3 staff standing there with 1 of them using her phone not looking up (there was only 1 other table besides us at that time). Totally ruined our day. But Huong did a great job recovering and reached out to us. If it wasn’t for her, we would still be quite upset. I mean, allergies aren’t something that should be taken lightly, especially when we dined at 2 other restaurants previously and told them each time of our allergies. At a hotel like JW I would think that they would do a better job at communicating amongst themselves to remark what food their in-house guests are allergic to. Another side incident was that after breakfast one day as we strolled on the beach back to our room, a dead dog was washed up to the beachfront in front of our room. I called guest services and they sent their Security team and beach cleaners to remove it immediately. But all in all we were still satisfied with the overall experience. Everyone is so warm and says “Xin Chao!” every time they pass by you. We will definitely return.

The hotel is decorated with beautiful wheels, everywhere is a card, the first push to the sea room, just sitting on the terrace to see the sunrise, very romantic. There is a very careful sun oil supply next to the pool, the sandy beach staff is specialized in cleaning garbage very clean, the room design is also comfortable, the housewife is clean, and the breakfast is diverse and delicious.
Thank you staff NHAN carried us to the room kindly introduced the facilities of the hotel, and also thank the hospitality department MAURICE in addition to the facial identification registration for us for the ticket, also provided a lot of travel advice. Thanks to the excellent staff of the hotel, we were very pleased with this stay.

Quiet, luxurious artistic hotel in a beautiful green environment: coconut trees along the beach, maintained garden. It is rare to have thought of the design of a hotel with such a sharp decorative thread (around scientific Lamarck) and with so many details. The rooms are also beautiful (beware of ears sensitive to the noise of the air conditioning generators: they are at the top of the buildings; it is therefore better to choose a lower floor to avoid the humming all night long) Warm and spacious swimming pools. Grand breakfast Affable and helpful staff Free bicycle rental authorized outside the resort. If like us, you like to go to restaurants outside the hotel in the evening, there are only three restaurants along the beach with pretty bad value for money and frankly not great in terms of flavors... The only big downside is the beach littered with waste (it is collected during the day but it is lost in advance... there is so much...) so you sometimes have to swim among bags, plastic packaging, used condoms, toothbrush, etc. etc. What a pity .

I really liked the hotel. Wonderful architecture and concept, super staff and service! The territory is large, very green, and is constantly maintained. The sea was clean, garbage was constantly removed from the sea, there are free kayaks and boards on the beach. The pools are great. The food in the restaurants is varied and tasty, as in all Marriott chains. Very attentive and friendly waiters. Special thanks to Luci and Leo! A calm, aesthetic holiday in Fukuoka was a success! Thank you very much!

A beach resort hotel renovated from a university is full of characteristics. The very high floor has a very gorgeous and comfortable design. The exquisite furnishings match the theme and every detail is carefully crafted😍🤩It is very eye-catching😍 The resort's private beach has clear water and fine sand, making it a perfect choice for a relaxing getaway away from the hustle and bustle⛱️🌴 We stayed at the Department of Fine Arts and enjoyed the sea-sky swimming pool, blue sky, green trees and natural beauty, relaxing and freehand. However, you should be careful with the sudden deep water in the adult pool📌 My husband and I returned to campus and worked as naughty students for 5 days ⚽️🥅 🚲🏀🛶🌅♟️🪰🐠💐🌴🍜🎊🛁🏊♂️🚣♀️🛀👣 We enjoyed many activities in the resort, which was very fulfilling and enjoyable. The hotel I cannot but praise the staff's service, eg. Maurice, Alice, Duc, etc. are very attentive and always have a friendly smile. I feel happy and relaxed now. I would also like to thank the staff for their special assistance during my foot injury. She is also full of enthusiasm for her work, which is great👍 In terms of food, the quality and variety of the buffet breakfast included are also good, the drinks are particularly attractive, and the reception and service are very considerate👍👍 At your own expense, PinkPearl Fine dinner is a romantic and elegant process, with unforgettable environment, dishes and pink ladies reception💞🍽😋 I would also like to praise the birthday wishes sent by the hotel. It is the most surprising and thoughtful arrangement we have ever experienced. It adds a lot of atmosphere🎂✨️🕯🕯🕯🕯🪔 I hope to have the opportunity to visit this campus vacation paradise with my family and friends🕍🏰

A large complex with interesting architecture and a very pleasant atmosphere. Rooms with a very pleasant design. Very well-maintained territory with lush vegetation. Very diligent staff. There is a choice of rooms with garden view and sea view, but in fact all (it seemed to me) rooms have windows facing the sea. Between the sea and the houses is a garden in which the trees and bushes largely obscure the sea view. It seems that only a few rooms have an ideal sea view. A good beach and three different pools. The famous seashell pool is spectacular in drone photos taken from high up, but when you are by the pool you don't notice this effect. Despite the fact that the hotel is large and there are a lot of people at breakfast, it is so well organized that there are no queues at breakfast. The breakfast selection is rich, while if you don't like Asian food, then the selection is actually not very rich, but everything that is offered is delicious. The prices in restaurants and bars are similar to those in good restaurants in the centre of Paris, which seems too expensive in Vietnamese conditions. However, there are several reasonably priced restaurants on the beach nearby. The price of accommodation is of course very expensive in the local context, but the experience is very special and I am glad that we spent a few days here.

First of all, this hotel is old. Do not expect new equipment or modern infrastructure. Everything feels outdated, and as you walk past the restaurants, there is a constant smell of kitchen oil. The rooms are spacious and generally pleasant, but again, they feel dated. During our stay, several items broke. For example, the ice bucket in the room was rusted on the inside and emitted an unpleasant odor, indicating it had probably not been cleaned or used in years.
My second major point of criticism is the service. While the staff are generally friendly, most are untrained and lack English proficiency. I suspect that, particularly during the Christmas holiday season, the hotel hired a number of untrained employees. This results in high-season prices being charged for a service experience that is mediocre at best. During my five-day stay, there were numerous occasions where we had to resolve issues ourselves because the staff either didn’t understand the problem or didn’t consider it important. For instance, the check-in process took 20 minutes, and when I asked if it could be expedited, I was firmly told, “This is our procedure,” and asked to sit and wait.
This property, like many others on this island, feels like a mass-market luxury tourist factory. Do not expect the staff to pay attention to details. The overall experience is akin to receiving 2- to 3-star service in an old hotel located in a stunning setting. Considering the room rates, I would rate the infrastructure and service at 1.5/5, the food at 4.5/5, and the location at 5/5.
I have traveled extensively in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, and I must say that what this property offers for over USD 400 per night falls far below expectations. I have stayed in luxury hotels across the region, including more than 100 nights in Marriott properties in 2022, and this hotel does not measure up. I cannot recommend it.

I stayed in this resort in 2018 and it feels the entire service team has elevated themselves to another level this time. Upon existing the airport, the service team greeted us with cold towels and water to refresh ourselves from the flight. The butler and the service team was already waiting for us when we arrived the resort. Seamless check-in and showed us the resort facility. We have 4 teenage boys and they were just full of energy and jumping around at the game room and pool. I want to especially thank Tuyet as she provided an amazing service. Whatever and whenever we needed something, she was there to help us. We have been to several other resorts in Phu Quoc and this is so far the best spot in the island.

Having never been to Phu Quoc, we were initially unsure of where to stay. We opted for the JW as the reviews were all positive and I can certainly confirm that the hype was all true.
From check-in to dining to check-out, the resort is so welcoming. I had mentioned to the check in team that we were there for my wife's birthday and wherever we went in the resorts, most of the staff knew and wished us. Not sure how this is done, but amazing.
The rooms are spacious, and ours overlooked the seashell pool and the beach. Clean and neat, the housekeeping staff were super accommodating to our timings, so it was zero stress.
The department of chemistry aka "the bar" is so comfortable and relaxing, you can easily spend a few hours just gazing at the ocean and sipping some pretty wonderful drinks. The breakfasts were good, but this is the only time you would see a crowd as the resorts is spaced out and you never feel crowded. We had dinner at the fine dining restaurant "The Pink Pearl" and the service was great, warm and attentive. Unfortunately, one of the courses we got was served cold and we were immediately offered a replacement. Despite this minor glitch, the overall ambience and service level was its redeeming factor.
The beach was absolutely spotless, and the water was also very clean. You can tell the water quality is good as you could see many small fishes darting around.
Overall, we would come again and bring our family the next time. A wonderful stay in a wonderful resort.

They do have adjoining rooms, as well as villas with multiple rooms and even villas with pools. Those are expensive by Vietnamese standards but cheaper than a modest hotel room in NYC or Tokyo.
it ranges from 300,000-400,000 VHD, which is about $15-20 at the high end. They don't take CCs which is important, and as always, especially airport to JW - negotiate rate first. One of them tried to get 450,000 at the end from a friend of mine.
I just returned from this resort last week, the concierge during breakfast one day mentioned they will be nearly at capacity during the upcoming holiday (Apr 30). This could possibly be the reason but I would definitely reach out them directly.
There are more places to choose from in the An Thoi area.
