Hotel Avra Rafina emerges as a mixed bag in traveler reviews. While many guests appreciate its prime location near the port, airport, and local attractions, opinions on its value are split, with some questioning additional costs for services like early check-in. The hotel's cleanliness and comfortable, modern rooms with scenic views consistently earn praise.
However, the service has received mixed reactions, with accolades for the free airport shuttle and friendly staff, but also reports of less responsive interactions. Amenities like the shuttle and breakfast are popular, though the coffee and buffet dinner have their detractors.

Detailed Reviews
Our flight home was brought forward so unable to get a ferry from Tinos back in time, so booked based on location (few mins walk from port) & free airport shuttle service.
The hotel is very much like an English Premier Inn the rooms look very similar, so clean modern of an adequate size. There’s also a small fridge & balcony which was nice.
Check In was quick & easy. Breakfast is a decent continental Buffett.
The hotel is by the beach if you have a few hours to kill. Rafina appears to be very quiet in the day but busy at night, after checkin we popped out for a drink & pancakes at nearby restaurant which were very nice.
Best to book airport shuttle at booking but can be done on the day it’s every half an hour.
Would definitely return and recommend to anyone who needs a pre/post ferry accommodation at a reasonable price.

frankly ideal for transit
the big advantage is probably also the airport transfer which might otherwise cost you dear
in summer or during active period it is unfortunately very expensive and sold with compulsory breakfast which if you do not know how to take it will consist of a child bag with egg toast a bottle of water and a strict minimum

Located at the port of Rafina, 500m from the ferry, this is a well-maintained and modernized hotel.
The room is small, just like the bathroom, and the sink is located in the entrance hall. There is not much room for mooring, but this is not necessary for just 1 overnight stay.
The breakfast is extensive and delicious. Bread is not always replenished. There is a restaurant, but there are several cozy tavernas nearby.

Very comfortable clean and modern room with wonderful view and balcony. Bed and pillows comfortable. Bathroom tiny but wasn't a problem for us. View most important. Front desk male employee on arrival was somewhat unfriendly and requested 30 Euros for an early check in which we declined despite there clearly being a lot of empty rooms available. There was a closet to store our bags amidst many others who had also been refused an early check in. Location close to the port and airport is great and there are good local fish restaurants nearby. No tourist shops which was a pleasant relief. Beach could be lovely in high season but was windy and cold for us in late May. Not much to do in Rafina except watch ferries come and go and a walk to a pretty chapel on the hillside. Had a wonderful meal in a local restaurant where we chose the fish we wanted! Would recommend for one day before flying or sailing out of Athens.

This hotel is actually quite nice in terms of the standard of accommodation, decor, cleanliness and facilities.
However, there is unfortunately a very big "but". The room was overrun with mosquitoes. The hotel was asked to provide fly spray but was able only to offer some wholly inadequate miniature electronic device which couldn't have been less effective. The end result was a sleepless night being "buzzed" by the mosquitoes and a multiplicity of bites by the following day.
It was also noted that no ventilation or extraction device was provided in the bathroom save for a very peculiar window which opened into some kind of shaft, the opposite side of which had a similar window which allowed the guests opposite to share an intimate moment when their window was opened at the same time. All in all, this arrangement was very unsatisfactory when the missus laid a particularly fragrant log the morning after a large dinner.
There was unfortunately a rowdy group staying at the same time and this clearly emphasised the very poor sound insulation in the building, several times during the night people in other rooms and those paying by could be clearly heard talking. Ear plugs are too be recommended.
Finally, the transfer service to and from the airport was very efficient and prompt, it's a pity that the driver thought it appropriate to use a mobile phone whilst driving, guest safety clearly not a concern here.
Overall the hotel is clean and seems to have been recently renovated, staff were friendly and obliging, I'd happily stay again but next time I'd be armed with fly spray and eat plugs.

A 20 minute ride from Athens airport and a five minute walk to the Rafina ferry docks, Avra has modern, sleek lines, nice room furnishings, and a very contemporary ambiance.
The beds were as to be expected in Greece; without splurging on ultra luxury, you can expect single, double, and queen beds for about 100 Euro. Ours had three beds and a balcony with a sea view.
Avra Hotel is perfectly located for walking to many restaurants, the area platiea, and shopping. A powerful a/c unit was helpful to cool down after exploring.
Caution: If your reservation receipt shows a 12 noon checkout show the front desk or they will insist that you leave at 11 am.

This hotel was absolutely ideal for our one night layover on our way home from Skiathos via Athens. Only 20 min (free hotel shuttle bus which you arrange in advance) from Athens airport. And we could see many guests were also staying there on their way to or from the ferries which come to Rafina port less than a 5 minute walk away.
A smart, clean, comfortable hotel with well equipped rooms. I’d paid for a sea view - and we enjoyed ferry and aeroplane spotting from the balcony with a cup of coffee.
Nice breakfast on offer and we enjoyed a couple of lovely, good value lunches in the restaurant conservatory overlooking the water. Friendly restaurant staff.

Kind of a nightmarish experience. Booked a one night stay as we came back from the islands and had an early afternoon flight from Athens the next day. Gave my flight info for the shuttle, arriving at 6:15 pm and was told to take the 6:30 shuttle. It was our anniversary so we were hoping to catch a sunset dinner. Flight landed at 6:12 and was able to get out there at 6:35 after getting luggage. Shuttle had left. With some passengers from our flight who didn’t have to check baggage. Would have been nice to wait a couple of minutes so we didn’t have to wait an hour at the airport but I get that they are on a schedule. We wait an hour. 7:30, no shuttle. 7:35, no shuttle. I call and they apologize and say he must be late. Finally shows and we get to hotel around 8. By the time we check in (no wifi in lobby while you wait) it is too late for dinner so we just grab some gyros nearby. Front desk did give us a 15% off restaurant coupon for our trouble which I told the person I was corresponding with via email who was nice enough to ensure we got on a shutttle (so I guess they view an hour of our time worth $1-$2). We find some couches in the corner to eat and then a few minutes later are told we can’t eat there that it is for hotel guests. Um, we are guests but I guess there is a language barrier. Fine, we just took it back to our room. Very tired so go to bed around 9:00. 20 minutes later I am woken up by our hotel room phone ringing. A call from the front desk. Why? To tell me that I was mistaken in my email and that the 15% off coupon cannot be applied to the breakfast buffet, only the restaurant menu items. Lol. Needless to say I probably won’t be staying here again. But if you need a hotel for a quick overnight for an Athens flight it should be fine if you don’t have shuttle issues. Rooms are modern and clean. Staff and management might want to try and be a bit more accommodating and sympathetic towards traveling guests. Buffet is decent and the lady that runs it was very nice.

We were supposed to sail from Rafina at 8 and chose Alfa hotel. They provided free transport from the airport in Athens to the hotel (also late at night) and there was breakfast from 6 so that it could be reached before the ferry departure. The ferries are approx. 5 minutes' walk from the hotel, so it is perfectly located. Nice and clean rooms and an excellent breakfast. Overall a really good experience, and we will definitely stay there again if we have to sail from Rafina.

We stayed at Avra Hotel Athens for our quick overnight transfer as an alternative to an airport hotel. It was lovely - clean and comfortable, it overlooks the ferry port with beautiful sea views and a little neighborhood to walk in. They provide a good breakfast and free shuttle to the airport - 20 min on back roads so no traffic risk.

I recall emailing hotel directly, they pick up at the airport. It is a bit of a drive to the hotel, not next door to the airport. As I recall 20-30 minutes, but double-check that. Cute little town with lots of restaurants. There are closer hotels to ATH but more $$. Good luck.
The buffet starts at 06.30 and is being served by the staff, following the Covid protocol.
Just call the hotel and plan for a pick-up time. It is what I did.
No clear indication of what is happening with the Avra. Rumours abound about the reasons for closure but whatever they are, they appear to have been money related. I went past at the end of last month and there was no activity whatsoever; the taxi-driver did not think they would be opening any time soon.
