Bathrooms weren't cleaned between about 1pm Wednesday until late Friday mornings (and then poorly as staff mostly looked to be sitting in car watching videos and pretending to clean). This is terrible during co-vid period as soap, toilet paper and paper towel had run out. For unpowered sites this basically what you are paying for so very disappointing.
The info sheet you get on check in has incorrect info that could easily be fixed, shuttle hasn't run for 18mths, waiting on new van apparently.
Also welcome to country is 4.30pm currently not 6pm.
Unpowered Campground was ok, lots of small trees for shade but no big limbs.
Would be good to get more info about walks, more detail required and better maps despite being well marked. Also info about walks in the whole National Park, not just from resort trailhead.
Food in bistro was good but you need to book the day before.
IGA was well stocked and reasonable priced, meat packs and salad stuff, as well as fresh milk along with pies and bakery goods. Bring firewood as it's $22 a bag.

Really enjoyed our stay great walks and drives. Unfortunately the amenities were not very clean. They appeard to be cleaned once on the Tuesday after Easter and not again we left on Saturday and they hadn't been cleaned. With lots of people there didn't take long to become dirty. Toilet paper in men's ran out on Thursday.

We called a few times to be told there were no power sites, so we went there and there was no problem getting a power site? Good sites in large forested area. However, the amenities were very grubby and the showers were not cleaned for the 2 days we were there. Looked as though they had not been properly cleaned for quite a while. No mops or disinfectant in the bathrooms to do ones own cleaning either. Given this was over school holidays and Covid is around, it was pretty shocking. I asked reception when the bathrooms would be cleaned and they said they could not get enough staff.I saw a cleaner arrive after 3pm but the showers were still not cleaned that day. If the facility cannot be kept up to Covid required cleanliness standards then it should not be open or offering bathroom facilities. Considering that the Flinders Ranges is a major tourist destination this campground really needs to improve its management and cleanliness of its facilities.

Before I start this review, I don’t want Anji Kemp the Director of sales and marketing to write some unhelpful lame response because it just make you look like a fool.
We were here for one night on our way to Blinman (should have kept driving)
While looking for our site, we came across a few bbq areas, they really need attention and cleaning.
The amenity block seems like it’s there for kangaroos as there were kangaroos in there escaping the heat (41°c day) this has lead to Roo poo on the floor, Management could try putting doors or gates on the amenity block.
The showers are in desperate need of cleaning, As are the toilets.
This place does have a few good points, a well stocked supermarket / bottle shop. And a refreshing pool at the resort end

The service received at the Wilpena pound campground information centre was appalling. We wanted to visit Sacred Canyon in particular so, proceeded to buy a pass, $12 I think. The lady that serviced us couldn’t be anymore disinterested, in fact she was downright rude. We were further disappointed to find we couldn’t access Sacred Canyon as it was firmly padlocked and, further dismayed to find out from the park we were staying at, that it is $85 per person to visit Sacred Canyon now. Given the downturn in tourism during Covid-19, we hoped to be welcomed with a cheery smile and, a welcome back, not so and, won’t bother visiting the information centre again. Don’t bother, they only want your money. The national park entry buys you nothing. Literally...

Response from Anji Kemp, Marketing at Wilpena Pound Campground
Responded 25 Feb 2021
Hi Z3461IEjanem, Thank you for your review. To address your comment that the National Park entry buys you nothing, the fees are administered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and goes towards the upkeep of the park, the roads, the tracks, the signage, the flora and fauna. As Wilpena Pound Campground is located within the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, every vehicle is required to purchase a pass. In relation to Sacred Canyon, access to Sacred Canyon is only be available to visitors on guided tours led by Adnyamathanha people. The half-day guided tour, including transport, is $85p/p. On the guided tour, visitors to the site are provided with an in-depth cultural experience, with commentary on the engravings, the country, and Adnyamathanha culture, interpreted by an Adnyamathanha guide. We understand that this may not be for everybody, but it is a sacred site and we hope that people can respect that. We are disappointed to hear that one of our team seemed disinterested and have passed you feedback on to the department head. Thanks again for your review. Wilpena Pound Campground

We found our experience absolutely fantastic. We had our own van so stayed in a powered site. Our stay was for 10 days. The campground itself is kept very clean, the amenities are cleaned twice a day to a very high standard. We found the service at the visitor centre to be very friendly and helpful.
I have always found that if you treat a person with respect it will be returned.
The surrounding scenery is absolutely breathtaking, you simply do not get tired of it. The main thing to remember is that it is a camping ground. It is designed to fit into the natural beauty of the area, not to clash with it. The natural flora and fauna surrounding you more than makes up for any minor imperfections.
Go there and simply soak up the natural beauty of our outback.

we have just completed 5 nights in the powered campground. We loved the scenery and area.
The pool was not open and was not in good condition which was one of our main attractions, disappointing.
We recieved different advice and information from people within the park (staff) .
Toilets were not clean and always out of supplies.
It was left a complete day and a half with no cleaning and still wasn't done as we signed out, pretty bad anytime but particularly bad during COVID.
Signage still up for things such as the shuttle bus (which we were hoping to utilise to minimise walking for my disability parents) they would have benefited greatly by only walking one way. The shuttle bus doesn't run anymore, if we had of sat waiting we would have been stuck there.
It's such a beautiful place but it is very obvious not much had been maintained.
So glad the surrounding walks, drives and small towns offered some great activities seeing as we couldn't lounge around in the pool after a day of hiking.

It was very disappointing to see a place run down so badly considering it’s unbeatable location and the amount of tourists visiting Wilpena Pound.
We stayed at the campground due to close proximity to all the walking trails. For start, the check-in was slow and we were only informed at the time that 2 out of 3 amenity blocks were out of service. This made our experience interesting as the only working amenity block was packed with people and no hot shower. Ok fine if that’s what we have to live with but at least please clean and maintain the only working amenity. It was not a petty sight.
There is no privacy or noise control with other campers. You are expected to camp right next to others in the unpower site section.

Checked in by one of the park rangers who is indigenous to the area. He was extremely helpful and friendly with heaps of suggestions. (as was his brother the next day!!) We had a powered site amongst the trees. It's designed to fit in with the natural surroundings. The entire area was extremely neat and tidy. It's a very safe place to wonder around especially for children to play. Irrespective of weather you stay at the campground or resort, all facilities are available to you. The nightly smoking ceremony and welcome to country is a must. One of the absolute musts to do is the 1 hour plane flight. We did the first flight at 7am. The sunrise and moonset whilst at the airstrip was really great, as was the flight, as was the awesome pilot, Mark.

Wilpena is a run down shadow of its former self power poles in caravan park are broken and wobbly and have had no attempt to fix them. Only one ammenities block is operational and 500m walk away and is old and delapidated. The water is muddy and undrinkable yet patrons are expected to pay a premium to stay here. I will never be back until running of the place changes hands and vast inprovements are made!!!!!
