When you hear Wim Sonneveld's song " het dorp : thuis heb ik nog een ansichtkaart waarop een kerk, een kar met paard ....(At home i have a postcard with a church , a horse and cart ...)" You just get lost in sweat dreams ...In the Westhoek you can find plenty of these small quiet dozy villages and the village Westvleteren is one beautiful example of this.At the village, square in the warm shadow of the Sint Martinus church, Het Heilig genot tries nothing more than to be a peaceful place where you can relax and enjoy. The building, a former presbytery, with an English garden, has been fully renovated with respect of the past and with a sense for current comfort, into a country hotel that radiates peace and relaxation.Nearby historical cities as Ieper, Veurne and Poperinge. The sea, hills, the polders and "de schreve" (the Franco-Belgian border), all within easy reach without having to face traffic jams. Our small hotel is your base for endless walks, bike tours and so much more ...In our cozy lounge you can share experiences with other guests or just be planning your next trip.Leaflets and information brochures are available. No "have to's", you an also just dream away in an exciting book or play card games with your company while enjoying a free cup of coffee or tea or enjoy a regional beer for a small prize. For lunch Sandie's tearoom is at your disposal and for dinner advantageous arrangements have been agreed on with restaurants in the neighborhood. Free shuttle service is available upon demand.Het Heilig genot does not take children under the age of 14 and is not suitable for pets, however for those families we are more then willing to suggest suitable accommodation nearby.

Sandie is a fantastic host, she went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Amazing attention to detail, from the ceiling fan to the lovely omelette at breakfast. A perfect base to visit local breweries and restaurants, and a shuttle service is available for some places (just ask Sandie).

We arrived at the hotel at 5 o’clock and were very warmly welcomed by the owner. The room is beautiful and has everything you need. There is free tea and coffee available and sweets and cakes. Upstairs is a sitting room with the most beautiful views. Breakfast was very good and plentiful ( bread, rolls, eggs, yochurt, tea coffee fresh orange etc). The first evening our host recommended a restaurant and even gave us a lift there and collected us again. Overall a very special place, extremely clean and welcoming. Definitely recommend it

Stayed over the weekend. Good hosts, excellent breakfast! Clean rooms, lots of space. Nice bathroom. Good service, especially the "drive-you-to-the-neastest-restautrant" service. They drive you there, and fetch you afterwards. Nice bar with all the good local beers.

The hotel is a very effective Bed & Breakfast within an easy drive of the Channel Ports and everywhere that you might need for a great weekend break or longer. It seemed a bit of a mystery on arrival in that you can only book in after 5pm and by 7-30pm, which became evident as clever and efficient staffing. I was booked in by Sandie, who spoke good English, not an assured thing in that part of Belgium. They did not serve an evening meal, but had a clever arrangement with local restaurants within range, where the hotel would book space where you want to go, then drop you off and when you are finished at wherever you select, you would be brought back to the hotel. Access out of the restricted hours was simple. Facilities were good for relaxing in peace and quiet and it was a good location to get out and about on foot or by bike. If there were any questions they seemed easily answered by a comprehensive handbook in the room. (Not the sort of thing you might assess, but it was the safest hotel-based free wifi I had encountered in a long time. The proper continental breakfast at the end of my stay was enough to set me up for the day and heading home, vowing to return. Price for a single person was quite expensive, but it was well worth it.
