Hotel Le Pourteilh is sure to make your visit to La Mongie one worth remembering.
Just returned home from a 4 night ski trip at La Mongie with my 8 yr old son. I was a little apprehensive about the hotel, based on mixed reviews over the last couple of years. But we were pleasantly surprised; sure, the decor is definitely stuck in the 70s and some of the communal areas (stairs, landings, ski locker) are a bit tired. However the rooms are fine, beds are very comfy, linen is clean and new and the bathrooms have had new taps and shower fittings fairly recently. For the price (£100 a night during half term ski season), it was absolutely value for money. Just a few steps from the slopes, decent breakfast, underground parking (€15 a night) and welcoming staff. I would stay here again, and will definitely come back to La Mongie.
Hotel was a little down at heel and in need of investment to fix broken and worn fittings such as lights, carpet etc. The rooms were a decent size and warm but bedding and pillows desperately need to be upgraded. Overall the hotel was dimly lit and had a dingy feel. It's very well located right opposite the ski runs and about 300 yards down the hill from a local Carrefour supermarket. Food quality varied. We stayed half board and some evenings was very good although the gala new years eve dinner was slow to arrive, venison and scallops were undercooked for some of our party and overcooked for others. One of the party is vegetarian and this was advised well in advance and the hotel agreed that she could be catered. However, every night was omelette! At the fondue, the vegetarian was brought carrots to dunk in the same oil we had used for our steak - not ideal. Service - bar staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The restaurant staff were inconsistent and often slow to serve - although one older gentlemen staff member provided great service most of the others being brusque and avoided us maybe due to language challenges (we are English speaking with limited French). We had to wait 45 minutes at check out for the bills to be prepared - this could have been done the night before to save time with only 1 person at reception. Ultimately the experience was underwhelming and the value for money not good so whilst we will go back to La Mongie we will not stay at this hotel.…
Nice hotel but a little tired around the edges. Rooms basic but functional. Warm welcome in the bar and if you want food make sure that you reserve a table (same goes for all restaurants in La Mongie). I would recommend trying to get a room at the back of the hotel (away from the road) so that you can try to avoid the noise from the snowploughs in the early am! If you take the car park option you need to move the car early on the day of departure so that you can get a space in the public car park opposite as it fills up early and fills up quickly. Enjoy the skiing - La Panoramic is spectacular!
A friendly hotel in the heart of the resort with very nice staff. Fabric of the place is a bit tired but half board package was good value. Very few guests staying so atmosphere in the bar and lounge areas was lacking. Rooms are okay and paid extra for a south facing room which was good but it comes at a price when trying to sleep! The snow clearing teams are up all night keeping the roads, parking areas and pistes clear and this is not a quiet activity, particular the reserving warning sounds! Ski hire shop is in the same building and the hotel's own covered car parking is worth booking if there is snow forecast, although a bit pricey at €15 a day.
