2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
One of the world’s most stunning destinations can be found 12 nautical miles south of Phuket, on the Andaman island of Racha Yai. An expansive white-sand crescent bay with azure crystal waters creates the postcard-perfect backdrop for The Racha. Recently voted The Best Island Resort in South East Asia*, The Racha offers a truly amazing experience in a magical setting. With eco-chic luxury living, guests choose to ‘get-way from-it-all’ without taking anything away from the environment. Spread over 20 acres of verdant tropical grounds and built in low-rise harmony with the environment, 85 villas of eight category types provide for every creature comfort. The resort offers some of the best snorkelling in Thailand and has its own 5-Star PADI Dive Centre offering a variety of dive trips and courses, and a purpose-built instructional pool for beginners. The three ozone-treated swimming pools with underwater music offer plenty of options to chill and relax.

stylish resort in a beautiful island location, half an hour south of phuket. it's quiet and perfect to relax. snorkeling is fantastic even right in front of the beach, nice and easy diving locations nearby as well. there is only one transfer boat per day, so if you can't be at the chalong pier at 1 pm or you need to go the next day.

Hotel's Favourite
Thailand is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches, and my favorites are Similan and Koh Racha. Like most Thais, I usually prefer to explore new places, but ever since my first visit to The Racha, I can't help but dream of going back. This resort is a dream come true. Just steps outside your room and you've found paradise. There's an abundance of things to do like Snorkeling (4 great spots but Lah bay is best), Scuba Diving (don't miss the shipwrecks), ATV, Mountain bike, Kayak, Bodyboard, Paddle board, Trekking, Sauna, Spa, or jump in one of the 3 pools. I've been here 6 times and haven't done it all! They also have a happy hour in the evening so you can enjoy the sunset everyday from the bar. The staff are friendly and very service minded. What's also exceptionally special about The Racha is how much they care about sustainability (solar energy, conservation projects, water system), and giving back. I booked through Socialgiver.com and 50% is donated to charity! This is definitely an island and a resort you really cannot miss :)

This is our first stay at The Racha and it didn't disappoint; from the Airport pickup till drop off; all we felt was hospitality, hands down. The service level of this hotel is astonishing, from our experience travelling frequently almost everywhere from the Maldives to Iceland we've never stayed in any hotel where even the General Manager is Customer-facing and ensures that guests' needs are well taken cared and address issues almost instantly. The accommodation and facility is at it's finest, room are meticulously prepared and service on daily basis, coffee and tea are always refilled and if you ever need anything, their housekeeping is so efficient that you have what you need before your espresso is made! We love Thai food and this hotel can cook you anything Thai. Come breakfast and you will be amazed, im no alcoholic but if Champagne is part of the breakfast buffet and im on a tropical holiday - it's not an excuse it's the law. The island is a sanctuary for wildlife, you can see Monitor Lizard wondering within and outside the resort, loads of birds and butterflies specially in the morning. Our Villa even comes with its own house cat(Diamond) and Peacocks chatting on our terrace! The Marine life is modest, for an avid snorkeler. Diving is awesome though we only been on 1 dive site due to some restrictions moving around islands. The Racha Island has 5 beaches you can visit, whether you're a sunbather or a hydrophilic person there's a beach for you. We've only stayed for 2 weeks and we felt it is not enough, definitely coming back. We'd like to thank the hospitable people of The Racha - Devan, Marlo, Lena, Jasper and all the lovely people in the background who made our holiday at this resort one to remember.

Overall, The Racha was an amazing place to stay, simply due to its geographic location, ridiculously pristine white beaches, and excellent snorkeling, running/ biking trails and kayaking. That said, do not expect 5 star service, especially if you are not a Thai celebrity. I believe there is a strong element of racism at this hotel which mainly seems to cater to the Hi-So Thai crowd. I was easily the wealthiest guest at The Racha but was treated as if I was a cheap farang. When coming back to my room at night, I stopped off to use the bathroom at the pool. After exiting the bathroom, to my surprise, I was stopped by a security guard that proceeded to ask if I was staying at the Racha. A very strange inquiry given that The Racha is the only hotel open on the island currently. After saying yes to said guard, he clearly didn’t believe me and then proceeded to ask for my room number. I provided my room number followed by a verbal fury that would make even the Gods buckle at the knees. There are literally 10 families on Racha at the moment so this is discriminatory profiling ( likely based on me be young (35) , good looking, tan, ripped, and Caucasian ) and was insulting on so many levels, especially given that it’s not even possible for a non-guest to get to Racha island at the moment due to its isolated geography. What was the security guard thinking?? That I’m some cheap farang hiding in the jungle, sneaking up at night to use the toilets and shower in the pool??? Literally makes no sense and this guard absolutely needs to be fired immediately!. On top of all that, service and food here was barely satisfactory. I had to wait 1 hour for my luggage to arrive to my room upon arrival and nearly 2 hours for the cabana boy/man to get me a towel for the beach. Not to mention all the equipment that they loan you has not been well maintained. The mountain bicycles, for example, are extremely rusty and the breaks barely work. This could be extremely dangerous for tourists that are not experienced cyclists. It’s not difficult to maintain a bike but seems Racha management doesn’t care about guest safety or the longevity of their equipment. Do I still recommend staying at the Racha? Absolutely, yes. Will I come back? Absolutely. Yes. The location, beach, snorkeling, and activities cannot be matched and perhaps this is why they have such a lackadaisical attitude towards their guests. Just don’t expect 5 star amenities or service. It’s closer to 2 star ( at least at the moment ) in terms of service, food, and amenities. Also know that this is a place that mainly caters to hi-so Thai celebrities so expect an element of racism if you don’t fit into that category. Which is ironic because I’m probably the highest networth individual they’ve ever had stay on this island and they didn’t even know it. Shame. Tips would have been stratospheric for all has I been treated appropriately.
