A superb setting, living with Susie and her family as one walks the Great Ocean walk. Susie is a great chef using farm produce, and vegies from the garden. We were transported to start the walk each day, after a cooked breakfast, took a packed lunch with lots of goodies, returned to afternoon tea, and wonderful dinner. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, with ensuites. The family made us very welcome and we loved our 5 days with them.

we stayed with Martin and Annabelle, for 6 nights in March 2011. As the guest house was full, and we were a group of 6, we stayed in Aire Valley house not far from the guest house and ate our evening meals in the guest house. All meals were provided in our package, and we could nt fault the food or the pick and drop off in the evening.
The meals are great and varied with the chef using fresh vegetables from the organic garden.
We walked the Great Ocean Walk each day and Martin, who had organised our schedule, and dropped us off to the GoW and picked us up each day. He was on time, and we were never left waiting in the cold.
Gracious hosts, friendly staff, in an unbeatable environment. Yes please, we will come back.

We stayed with another couple at Susie's Aire Valley Guest House. The accommodation was wonderful and we enjoyed each night around the blazing fire. Susie is a great host and a fantastic cook, she was attentive without being intrusive and our stay was delightful. I highly recommend this accommodation, we would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We stayed for two nights on a weekend and while the property is in a lovely location there are a few things that people should know before staying here. I was travelling with my signifcant other and it was to be the first weekend away for a longtime. While the guesthouse is all that is says and the pictures on the website accurately reflect the rooms and surrounds - the lack of privacy and noise really let it down. The rooms are lovely and all but one or two are connected to the main dining/sitting area (this is the restaurant at night and breakfast is served here in the morning). The entire place has floorboards (which look lovely) but the NOISE created by them is over-whelming! Until the last person leaves the restaurant at night and the last guest stops walking around in their room you will hear nothing but footsteps, chairs being scrapped back on the boards, things being dropped etc. In the morning (7am-ish!!!) - you can hear from the very first moment that the owners are setting up for breakfast with footsteps, chairs moving, cutlery noise etc. If you are an early riser and go to be late - then this wouldn't be a problem - but if you want an early night OR a sleep-in in the morning then forget it.

Also, we found the dining/sitting room just a little too small and the tables very close together. At the time we stayed there were three other couples and at breakfast all of the tables were placed very close together. There is no background music or anything to break the silence. So you can hear EVERYTHING that EVERYONE is talking about. We just sat their in silence for our breakfast and couldn't wait to leave.

The food itself is lovely and fresh and the owners were very welcoming. The rooms were lovely, with good linen, clean bathrooms and the place is overall very well kept. But if you are after a romantic getaway...this really isn't the place. And for the price - $250 per night - you are paying the same price as staying at a 5-star hotel in the city...not sure that we considered it great value for money. I think in the end I would have preferred a less 'romantic' venue that had more privacy and quiet!

Response from kandet, Owner at Aire Valley Restaurant and Guest House
Responded 28 May 2009
Dear Melbourne Baligirl I'm sorry your stay wasn't as nice as you had hoped for. We work very hard to make sure everyone has a great stay, and I would have been happy to talk to you about this during your 2 night stay. Your booking was over Easter when we were extremely busy. It is very unusual to be that busy. Easter is the busiest time of the year. Our restaurant is usually completely finished by 9.30. At Easter it was later unfortunately, plus we also had people knocking at the door still looking for accommodation after 11pm. (despite the no vacancy sign). I'm not sure why breakfast was being set up at 7am. Our usual set out time is 8.15 ready for 8.30 breakfast. I can only apologise for that. Our breakfast tables I believe are now in a different set up, where there are now tables about 4m apart. In relation to the rate mentioned, the rate was higher than usual as your booking was over Easter and the rate paid was lower than most places along the Great Ocean Road over Easter. Demand over Easter is very high. I thank you for your review as I value your opinion and your points raised have meant we have changed a few things here. I do look forward to our new extension to our restaurant which will enable more space and privacy for our guests. I'm pleased you enjoyed other aspects of the stay. We have worked hard to ensure our food is the best along the Great Ocean Road. There aren't any places I've ever stayed at where you can order your dinner and then the waiter goes and picks your vegetables for you!

We stayed here on the first night of our Auswalk Great Ocean Walk Highlights self-guide walk – five days, four nights, three days walking (see separate review).

Suzie could not have been more welcoming. And the beer after a long days walk could not have tasted any better. Our small person was starving and a plate of cheese and biscuits and a banana was no trouble at all.

The beds were comfy and the showers strong and hot.

The food was great and all the vegetables come straight from the garden. You can purchase wine to go with your meal and tea and coffee is available for you to make. There is a nice big lounge to make yourself comfortable in or you can sit on the very large verandah and watch the sun go down.

There was no wifi that we were aware of and our telephone company did not have any coverage in the area.

I stayed at the Aire Valley Guest House as part of a self-guided trek along the Great Ocean Walk arranged by a tour operator. This was my home for 2 nights and proved to be a very special place to be during my time in the Cape Otway National Park.

The Guest House dates back to the early 1900's and has been immaculately restored to provide guests with a memorable experience. The bedrooms are elegantly styled with restored dressers, bedside cabinets snd simple lamps. The bathroom was clean and provided all toiletries required. Fresh flowers adorn the bedroom

The house is surrounded by a generous deck that has sweeping vistas across the lush pastoral land of the Cape. The garden is constantly alive with colourful birdlife and Koala's are in residence as related by Susie the owner (although I did not take time to see them!).

But the piece de resistance is the most elegant lounge/dining room where guests meet to enjoy superb food provided by Susie and her team of 2 young French assistants. A 'common' kitchen area provides guests with all their needs for coffee and tea throughout the day. Alcohol (including an excellent selection of wines) is available based upon an honesty system.

Each night I enjoyed a magnificent feast with other guests from France and Belgium prepared by Susie and her small team. The food was outstanding, so much of it provided fresh from the garden of the Guest House. Our evenings were 'capped' off by tea or coffee or more wine by the roaring log fire as we sat on the huge sofa's and conversation continued about our travels.

There are no flat screen TV's, mini fridges or radio's the bedrooms and no TV in the common room. The Guest House is a place to be for a special time, to enjoy Cape Otway at its stunning best during the day and have a retreat at the end of the day that will be a special memory for a long time.

Aire Valley Guest House is of course about the owner Susie. During my time there everyone was made to feel like a friend; boundless energy, so many interesting stories and things to tell and her wonderful sense of humour kept everyone smiling.

Take a trip to Cape Otway and stay ay the Aire Valley Guest House

We recently enjoyed 3 nights at Aire Valley Guest house as part of the Great Ocean Walk. Susie is a beautiful host - a wonderful cook, a great conversationalist and she makes sure everyone feels welcome and cared for. The room was delightful with good quality bedding, fresh flowers and lovely views. The food was amazing - I loved the use of the delicious organic vegetables and herbs. I also enjoyed Susie's art collection and great books. Can't wait to stay again.

This guest house was booked by our tour operator, as we were walking the Great Ocean Road walk. The corner room was very cosy, amenities were ideal. The highlight of our stay was the hospitality - the owner was away that night but had left the house in the care of a trusted friend, together with an excellent chef. We received a great welcome from the host, lot's of useful and funny local knowledge, and an absolutely delicious dinner and breakfast. This guesthouse has the perfect balance needed after a long day's walk - hosts who appreciate traveller's "quiet time" as well as being on hand for a lively chat and hospitality. Well done, and thanks....

Stayed two nights as part of Walk91 hike of the Great Ocean Walk. Susie was amazing--her cooking using ingredients from her garden was amazingly tasty and fresh and healthful and wonderful. The rooms were beyond comfortable, with fresh flowers, wonderful antique furnishings, amazing views of the Aire River valley. Sitting/lounging on the super-comfortable sofas in front of a fire, letting the soreness seep out of our legs was a great way to recover from a strenuous hike. Did I mention how scrumptious the food was. Amazing.
