What an amazing trip that we told all our friends about! The views were breathtaking and some of the best either of us have ever seen.

All of the wines we tried were excellent!

The rooms are extremely spacious and charming. We had a window view in our room of the valley below.

The infinity pool was so nice and we just sat there and stared at the view. It was an experience like no other.

The food we had was very good. I have seen others complain that this food is not worth the price - maybe it is a tad expensive, but it really brought home the ambiance and experience of the hotel.

Also, despite what people say - you are not a prisoner at the hotel and you are of course free to leave to go get dinner in town, which other guests during our stay did.

Finally, the subject of many complaints - the road to get there. For what it’s worth, my wife, who hasn’t driven stick shift in many years drove down this road (I can’t drive a stick shift at all :)) . Maybe we are just brave. But as long as you are careful, there is no reason to act like this road is crumbling beneath you. Plenty of people drive this road daily, and we even saw trucks leaving some places and driving on it. I do believe they should warn people that it is a narrow road, but there are also taxis that will drop you off at the hotel if necessary.

If you want a very relaxing experience and breathtaking views, I recommend a few nights at Quinta de Griche.

We had an incredible few days staying at Quinta da Gricha. The Quinta was exceptionally clean and well designed and the view was spectacular. The staff were very knowledgeable of the property, it's history and of course the port and wine making activities on the estate and provided very relaxed but informative tours and tastings. With the Quinta having only a few rooms, you are able to enjoy a very chilled and intimate experience in the Douro Valley. The staff are incredibly accommodating and provided a high level of service, even bringing us port cocktails to the pool without needing to ask for anything. The food (and of course wine/port offering) was local and excellent and whilst there isn't a huge array of options for dinner, for a 2 night stay this was not an issue. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to fully experience the Douro Valley, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Quinta da Gricha.

The Douro Valley is absolutely magical, and La Quinta Gricha matches it in every way. Stunning views, wonderful and authentic service, serene pool, elegant interiors, and darling dogs accommodated us on hikes. This is a place to come and unwind. Read, walk, and play games in the living room. Matheus is working toward being a sommelier and proved his knowledge during a private wine tour and tasting after he served us a yummy lunch. The wines and ports were delicious. We were torn between dinner in or out with a taxi drive to town ($100 round trip). We did both. Dinner out afforded us more opportunities to see the views and dinner in was delicious and relaxing. We would not typically order wild boar or duck breast but enjoyed them very much! We should have set up wine tastings nearby to walk to and would have enjoyed a third night if we had done so.

After driving around lovely Portugal for 3 weeks staying at truly great places, my wife and I were guests at the Gricha Vineyard House for two days. During our stay, there was only one other couple each night. All of us became lost and frustrated trying to find the place! ‘Do not trust Google Maps”! The rooms, wine and and food are all overpriced and they over charge for “everything’. You cannot leave for dinner because of the difficulty of the drive so we were trapped. They are short staffed and charge for a”nice” dinner that they choose to serve you, no options €39, not including overpriced wine There are much nicer, scenic and “convenient’ options than the Gricha Vineyard House! You should be forewarned by the no cancellation policy!

Dear Bruce, We are sorry to hear that you had a not so good experience with us. Our cancellation policy is clear when booking, and so is the access to the Quinta. We know is a very narrow road, but keep in mind the harvest happens every year on the same travelled road. Nevertheless, we would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your feedback will help us have some insight as to where we can improve with our services in the future at Quinta da Gricha.

Enjoy the remoteness of this winery . The staff are considerate and helpful . The two main draw backs are the 2.5 km private road leading up to the winery . Unless you are a confident and competent driver, reconsider your stay . Also, you must have supper at the winery, because it’s too far and treacherous to drive back to town . The meal is very mediocre, priced way above local restaurant prices . Other than that, the views and atmosphere are wonderful .

We had a DELIGHTFUL experience! The scenery was beyond stunning and the photos can’t fully do it justice. The wine was delicious, and Sara was extremely hospitable, kind, knowledgeable about the grapes, and extremely welcoming.

The road up was quite narrow and steep, but our taxi driver was well-versed in the terrain and it was an additional opportunity for lovely views. Would highly recommend a visit!

We travelled around Portugal for a month and Quinta da Gricha was by far the best place we visited. If you are looking for peace and stunning views, this is the stay where every little detail has been thought of. I loved how the receptionist welcomed us: 'I will help you to relax'. Even the other customers all felt this was the highlight of their trip.

We just came back from two nights at Quinta Gricha in the Douro Valley. Believe me, there was no eating outside like in their promotional material. There were 8 guests, all asking to eat out (+30c). Nope. We had to sit in a stuffy room for breakfast and dinner. We asked for a wine they had on their list. They said they didn’t have it but gave us another. Found out on check out it was double the price. Bait and switch. 37 € each for dinner. First night meal was good, next night the boniest cod and a few tiny potatoes. A small bowl of cherries for dessert.
We had booked a wine tour with them weeks in advance, got there to be told no tour. Fully booked for next day. By then we were too late to book one with anyone else.
Very disappointing experience altogether.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. I fell in love with the authenticity and character of the place. The pool area the garden are amazing and the room was comfortable and suitable for the whole atmosphere. We had two lovely dinners (they served great dinner option for vegetarians), wine tasting, wine tour and of course great breakfasts. The place was intimate and romantic, and the location is stunning.

We booked 3 nights at this Quinta. Unfortunately never reached it due to inability to be guided by vehicle GPS. Turn off up a very steep narrow gravel road. This drive not for the faint hearted.! I contacted the manager whilst trying to locate the property and he eventually provided GPS coordinates but by the time I received these we were truly fed up with the difficult drive. We decided to give up after a 4 hour drive from Porto.
Apart from the disappointment of not reaching what other reviewers report as an amazing retreat, despite speaking with manager, not even a night was refunded out of the 3. I did not expect refund for all 3 but 1 would have been a nice gesture.
