Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A setting that seems bucolic but what a disappointment when we see the room, which for us is not really one! They were kind enough to offer it to us for €106 instead of €125 because there were only two of us. But a bedroom with a fitted kitchen that takes up a large part of the room is a bit weird!! In addition, the appearance is very dilapidated. Really nothing enticing! Finally, the breakfast is quite average. Really not a good experience even if the staff is friendly.

Lovely old manor house with extensive grounds the children enjoyed playing in. Room with kitchenette & outdoor terrace was very practical for our 2 families. The welcome was warm and the atmosphere relaxed. Big bike shed for all our 8 bikes & trailer! Would def recommend for a stop en route if you are biking in the Loire. We would also record the superb municipal pool in Avoine (baby pool & brilliant slide!) as well as pizzeria l’Herozo where we had an excellent evening meal.

This hotel is very tired, rooms were depressing.
On arriving some of our rooms were still being painted or rewired.
Nothing like a room with wet paint!
We stayed as a group, so I had the opportunity to see several of the rooms and they were all equally dismal.

Dear fleetoffoot, Thank you for sharing your experience with us and the Tripadvisor community. We are very sorry to read that you did not enjoy the place and your room. Due to the pandemic, many of our refreshment projects have been delayed, some of them were planned this winter, but the craftsmen are very busy and some other unavailable. We thought we had the time to do the work in some of the rooms before your arrival, expected at 10pm according to the person part of your group, who arrived the day before. Bad timing on our side and so again, we are very sorry for the inconvience and hope you do understand the situation, Best regards

HONESTLY, LET'S AVOID IT. As soon as you arrive, the park, the Pension façade are grim. it is located in a lost countryside, in an abandoned village. The Pension definitely does not deserve its 3-star rating. It is indeed an old "mansion", but never renovated.

Room was comforable but the hotel needs sprucing up in places. The dining room was very attractive and the food was of excellent quality but spoilt by the emphasis on Nouvelle Cuisine and poor portions for the main course. Our prebooked reservation included breakfast but on checking out we were required to pay extra.

We discovered this place almost by accident when a lot of hotels we would normally stay at were full.

This hotel is set in lovely parkland and located in a very quiet area. The bedroom was very large with a small bedroom set off it and a very modern bathroom. We had the top floor (attic) of an old house. Other people staying also commented on the largish rooms. The furniture is quite old and very french. Not to everyone's taste although we liked it. There is a small sitting room for the guests.

The restaurant is in two rooms, one smoking and one non-smoking. However noone was smoking the night we were there. The food was good and their speciality is the Geline de Touraine, a local chicken. Prices were reasonable and there was a good wine list.

As a previous reviewer said, the portions are more on the nouvelle cuisine side rather than generous but with 4 courses on the set menu this did not worry me too much! I would probably stay here again.

We stayed here on the way back to the UK having found it on booking.com. Ideally situated a few kilometres from Chinon and 20 minutes from Saumur. The room had recently been redecorated and was spotlessly clean as indeed was the bathroom and was a bargain at about £45 for one night. Located off the main road and close to the river and cycle tracks it was very quiet. The reception was efficient and friendly and as the restaurant was closed on Sunday evening the proprietor gave us a map of Chinon and recommended certain restaurants. He even helped us sample some locally produced wines on our return which weren't overly expensive. Breakfast was an additional 8euros and comprised fresh croissant, coffee or tea, juice, cereals and fresh baguettes with ham and cheese etc, so enough to set us up for the day. The room had free and password free wifi which seemed to work at a good speed. Checkout was efficient and friendly and we had no complaints at all about the stay.
