Second visit to Stillwell Hotel, wonderful views from my comfy room although it does get hot in there. Needed to open the window at night (yes it was minus 5 outside) to sleep better but then you are blasted with the sound of snow making machines that run overnight so do not expect peace and quiet. Walls are not overly insulated so you will easily hear your neighbours. In saying that everyone seems relatively respectful
Staff are great, friendly and easy to chat to and want you to enjoy your stay 😊
Food is fine, nuthin special but for that (even understanding the logistics of getting goods there) it's probably a little pricey. $10 for a stubby of beer is a bit steep and coffee is fine but at airport prices
Great drying room for all your gear and the front outdoor seated area is fantastic to sit out on and enjoy the fantastic views. Oversnow transport is reliable although cancellations do occur on the day. For those wanting to explore the area on foot the cost of a single trip ski lift ticket isn't really worth the money - just walk up the hill! It's maybe a 25mim walk to save $40+
All up a wonderful place to get away from the crowds and easy access to the stunning back country, looking forward to my next visit!

Sure, could definitely do with some refurbishment but ok for the post covid world. The staff that were rostered on were very competent and friendly.
The room was pleasant and had good lighting.
The meal menu and quality were good for a remote location which was lucky as there is nowhere else to get meals from over summer.
We knew that there were no bar fridges in the room but still missed having one - perhaps "un Australian"? :)
Note that the only mobile reception in the area is Telstra, not the hotels' fault of course and they do provide OK wifi.

Summer in the Snowies was better for having stayed at the Stillwell Hotel at Charlotte Pass. Only open in summer for a limited time, the reception and service we enjoyed was first class. Understandably, for a place that is in the middle of nowhere, the menu was limited but each meal was delicious, served quickly and efficiently, and all washed down with a cool drink or a coffee from the bar. Staff are attentive and guest focused, especially Jessica, Charlie, Sarah and Liam who all looked after us very well while we were there. We’d be back anytime.

Been coming to Stillwell at Charlotte Pass for 20 years but this year under new management. OMG! They have destroyed everything that was great here. When I bring my family to an isolated resort where my room has no cooking facilities do you think I want to eat a 4 dish Mexican menu for lunch and dinner every day for a week! Only other options are pizza or 3 basic Italian dishes. No chips, no toasted sandwiches, no hamburgers. What if my kids don’t like burritos for lunch and dinner! The wait staff speak little English and it’s difficult to order something as simple as a glass of wine. There was not a single bottle of champagne at the bar! The dining room has been redone in white which has killed the amazing country lodge theme that we all love in the snowy mountains, and now there are rainbow coloured naked male busts and groins hanging on the walls. After we questioned why we had to have breakfast in the presence of naked men they covered them with Mexican clothes. Why should we have to deal with this at a family hotel in the snow? The Mexican food was stale and likely from a packet, and after I had enough stale Mexican food for a lifetime on day 2, I ordered the spaghetti bolognese. For $25 the plate contained about 5 mouthfuls. Coffee is $6! To get a decent meal we have to walk down the hill and eat at the chalet at an average cost of $400 for my group of 4 adults and 4 kids, and we were only able to get a reservation on 2 of our 5 nights. Towels and bins used to get changed midweek, now housekeeping is non existent, beds are old and hard, bathrooms look they were painted by my 10 year old.
After 20 years my love affair with Charlotte pass is over and I will never return! By the time it’s all done our week here has cost over $7000.
Risk it and you too will be enraged!

I booked this for a summer overnight stay, knowing it was likely a 'past its best' resort hotel. So I did not expect shiny finishes, gourmet meals, or gushy staff, and was quite willing to accept daggy decor, backpacker staff, small room etc. However still came away very disappointed. Worst aspects: Smell in room. There must have been a problem with the floor drain in the bathroom, because the bathroom smelled bad, and we left the bathroom door open when we went to dinner, so when we returned the whole room smelled like a sewage outfall. Dirty coffee cups (small issue and not hard to clean yourself - but makes you worry about the rest of the cleaning...) Door to verandah (lock broken) - managed to open with the back of a spoon but otherwise would have been unable to access to enjoy the beautiful views. Food: Again, had very low expectations so ordered the burger (which is usually a reliable staple in a basic kitchen. Woman serving had also suggested it was her favourite meal...). Worst burger I have eaten by quite a long way...
On the plus side - it is a beautiful site. The room had amazing views of mountains. The bed was very comfortable, sheets seemed clean and crisp. The younger members of staff very helpful and polite. Cheap if you book in advance.

Internet is substandard for accomodation at this price being far too slow. Better is available at private lodges. Small room is filled by king size and single beds and has neither chairs nor a table. Why Australian motels etc. favour grossly sized beds in small rooms and an un-needed bed escapes me, particularly at the cost of no chairs nor a table.

The staff members are really rude and they don't listen to you. When we got there we couldn't go into our rooms until 2:30 pm. When we went into our rooms there was hair on the beds and the toilet wasn't clean. The variety of food was very poor, not much to choose from, when served the food was very cold and the cutlery was not clean. No one in authority to answer questions. Walls in the room were paper thin and you could hear the people next door. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜’😱🙄

My partner and I stayed here for one night as we were starting our hike up to the summit from Charlotte Pass early the next day. It is around 45 minutes from Jindy with a very beautiful and scenic drive up the mountain. It was easy to locate but do inform the reception should you be arriving late, usually the staff would be in the restaurant below. Room was very basic but value for money considering the location. As others have mentioned, there are only stairs so if you have luggages be prepared. We did not know how to lock the room door (not sure why it wouldn't lock) but did not bother to anyway as it felt safe. There is no fridge in the room but there is a panel heater which we made good use of. Would stay again.

Fantastic location and so convenient as we did the Mt Kosciusko hike to the summit and it was less than 5mins drive to the start of the trail.
Clean and simple rooms but that’s all you needed if you’re going to spend most of the day outdoors.
Friendly and super helpful staff. I would definitely come back to stay for the snow season.

Fabulous location adjacent to ski lifts but that is about all- every thing else terrible. Really rude staff. The place was run by rude teenagers. No housekeeping in our 7 night stay, not even rubbish collection or towel change. Limited menu and they ran out of many items including milk for days so we were eating very limited food options, mainly Mexican. No vegetables at all in a week. Tried to eat at the other hotel but they were only serving their own guests and closed to all others so it was a week of eating a few limited Mexican options. Shocking. No Laundry facilities. Would have to be the worst service I’ve ever experienced. The staff seemed to think it was normal and acceptable for there to be such limited food available. Was hard to understand given that there is transport coming in every hour to the ski resort. The worst aspect was definitely the rudeness from the staff. we couldn’t wait to get out of there due to the rude staff, lack of food and no housekeeping service.
