We have recently returned from 5 nights at Delfinos. We are a family of 5 and stayed in a 3 bedroom self contained (recently renovated) apartment. It was truly a home away from home with everything we needed and plenty of space. It was spotlessly clean, with plenty of extra pillows and blankets (not that we needed them with the hot weather!). Delfinos is very well located with plenty of cafes & restaurants within easy walking distance, and a supermarket only a km away. We walked on the esplanade walkway everyday which was great, with easy access to the beach. The kids enjoyed the pool everyday too. Thankyou Andrew & Diane for being lovely hosts & helping to make our stay so enjoyable! If you're after somewhere affordable & family friendly, this is the place!

Our family of 4 have recently returned from another wonderful summer holiday of three weeks at Delfinos. We are so impressed with the friendly management, the great sized pool, the good sized rooms (for this class of resort - it is 3 and half stars) that we return year after year for our annual holiday.

I cant help but notice a couple of negative reviews below and can only say I am astounded and wonder if these people actually stayed at the same Delfinos we did. These reviewers must be VERY hard to please. If you are expecting 5 star accommodation, on-tap room service and 24 hour attention this is not the place for you. But if you want clean, good quality, serviced, 3 and a half star level accommodation this is an excellent place to stay. We will definately be returning to Delfinos for our annual family holiday next year .

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Delfinos in Hervey Bay and I must say it was fantastic. We had a 3 bedroom apartment with 4 adults and 3 kids staying and there was plently of room for all of us. The apartment had everything we need in the room full kitchen and laundry. The pool, BBQ area and security parking are also great facilites at the resort. The managers Andrew and Diane were very friendly and helpful and we have already booked in again for next year, just a shame we have to wait a whole year to return.

After reading the wonderful reviews on here we were flabbergasted to discover the terrible apartment we were given. The apartment was extremely outdated and in terrible condition. I would say its at the 1 - 2 star level. Decor was NOT as shown on the website as the couch had crumbs/fabric pilling and the dining chairs were covered in brown stains. The kitchen counter-top was covered in a stream of ants 50+ long carrying crumbs from one location to the other. Seemed like they had a den in the hole in the wall behind the stove. The fridge was dirty and rusty on the outside. The cupboard handles were sticky! Shower was gross and dirty - looked like the apartment had been built 100+ years ago. It's hard to find something nice to say about this place - other than its in a good location but so are all the hundreds of other hotels on the strip.

Dealings with the staff were terrible. Nobody was at the front desk as they were off for Christmas but left us their number to call in case we had questions. We called but nobody answered and we only heard back an hour later. Of course we had to leave this place as $150 a night should get you a decently clean and well maintained apartment. We only stayed for 10 minutes but we were still charged a full 2 nights rate and owner refuses to grant a refund. Reading the good reviews on here I suppose you might get a decent room or you might get this one. Don't risk ruining your vacation - choose another hotel.

There was no mention of the following prior to arrival:

No Shampoo or Toiletries provided
No room service at all for entire stay
Have to pay for extra tea/coffee
Room towels not changed (unless you pay for fresh ones each time)
Have to take out own garbage to basement
Have to pay for toilet paper
Definately not 3.5 star rated

We would not of stayed here if the above conditions were advised upfront (on website or booking confirmation letter), it came as a shock that instead of relaxing on our holiday we had to go out for continually for supplies.

A notice stating a $75 surcharge if you don't do the dishes and take out the garbage is one of the first signs you see when you reach your room. This is a bit rich!
This was a another shock as this was not mentioned prior to arrival. Our friends were staying at the more expensive Mercure and they charge $25 if you don't take out the garbage or do the washing (Reasonable). However, it was not a problem as they were made aware prior to arrival of this and it was not a shock as expectations were set.

Just a warning - if you are after a no frills, no service, BYO toiletries, self contained apartment this is for you. If you after service and hidden costs dont be misled and stay somewhere else.

We stayed at Delfinos for 2 nights as we were traveling through Australia. I honestly cannot believe there are so many positive reviews of this place on here because it was NOT very nice. The rooms are soooo outdated, (blue walls??!!) and while things like the sheets and toilets were clean enough, the rest of the place was crawling - there were marks on nearly every single wall -- like, dirty finger marks, the shower (and the whole room in general) had a verrrry musty, moldy smell. We thought about asking to change rooms but were tired and just couldn't be asked to put up a stink. Everything we touched in that room felt sticky. The comforter was also stinking dirty and old.
The manager was nice enough -- talks a lot -- perhaps he should get a better cleaning service or do it himself rather than sitting there at the desk all day. I am sure he would have time as it seemed we were the only guests there.
Empty parking lot = bad sign. And, $95 a night? Really? That is gangsta!

Basic accommodation, which is all we had planned for. However we have milk and a fridge but no coffee, tea, cups or glasses and just had my worst shower ever with a dribble of water versus it coming gushing out of hand basin tap. Choose a sponge bath instead. Personnel helpful and friendly. Location next to two restaurants and beach across the road. However I would not return because of shower.

I arranged to stay at Delfinos last year over Christmas - and had the worst experience. I found the hotel conditions way below par, and the manager rude and unfriendly.
Having just come back to tripadvisor one year later I see that Delfinos still has plenty of positive reviews, I don't understand why I was the unlucky one...?
To start - we collected the keys from an envelope at the closed hotel reception counter.
On entering the 2 bed apartment we found the unit ridden with ants, and filthy with outdated furniture.
It was absolutely impossible for us to stay there. When we tried to discuss this with the resort manager, all I got was verbal abuse about how I had ruined his christmas day - not thinking how his run-down units and filthy accommodation had ruined ours.
In later correspondence, I tried to resolve the issue of my paying for 2 nights accommodation which I could not think of sleeping in. The manager did not make any amends.
I have been left 300 dollars out of pocket for services that I didn't use all.

Word of advise - stay away from Delfinos.

We stayed one night in a "hotel room" on our way to Brisbane. These rooms are fairly small, a bit smaller than an average hotel/motel room. The room badly needed refurbishing; walls and doors were marked and damaged. The apartments would be larger and could be in better condition, however I didn't view these.
The windows can only open a short way to conform with new OHS regulations (apparently) and the room was fitted with an airconditioner and fan. The airconditioner was quiet but was too large for the small room - we had to manually torn on and off to avoid freezing the room. And the fan was very old and was too noisy for a good sleep.
The managers were very friendly and helpful, but the quality of the accomodation let them down.
Price was $95, I think there would be better motels for this price.

My husband & I stay at Delfinos for 9 nights just after Christmas 2011. And it was fabulous. What a find. It's a small block of apartments directly opposite the beach. Being on the Esplanade between Torquay & Scarness, the access to beach is only a short stroll across the street and through a few metres of bush. And two sets of shops/restaurants are an easy flat stroll away in either direction.

There was no loud noise from the Irish pub (Hooligans aka Hoolies) next door even at New Years Eve, which was a surprise. And having Hoolies next door was a treat. It was nice to have a beer outside Hoolies in the afternoon and then walk straight next door to our apartment.

The apartment which we had (one bedroom) was neat and compact. Full stove & oven, large fridge and washer/dryer. And heaps of storage in the bedroom, more than we could fill with my mountain of luggage.

As Delfinos isn't a large resort complex, you felt safe and secure. And everyone was very friendly - very different to Noosaville where we stayed next.

PROS:
- great value for money (cheap & cheerful 3.5 star accomm)
- complex had everything you needed
- small, quiet & safe
- heaps of parking undercover, even for our tinny
- loads of food choices (ie. home-delivered food direct to your apartment door & restaurants/cafes)
- the best massage at "Inspire Massage" at Scarness - ph 4124 0667, it's down an alleyway in the shops on the Esplanade. Two Thai girls gave us the most relaxing massages of our holidays. Wish we discovered them earlier.

CONS:
- no ocean views (though we weren't expecting one). Opposite the apartments is approximately 10 metres of natural bush between the road and the ocean)
- Italian restaurant infront of Delfinos has closed down, though for us that wasn't an issue. There's so many other amazing restaurants in the area. Here's a few of the ones we tried, but there was so many more we wanted to try: Black Dog Cafe - two doors up to left, fabulous pork belly; Gringo's at Torquay - amazing seafood tacos; Cafe Tapas at Torquay - very flash, aircon'd hideaway with amazing cheap tapas; Enzo's - on the beach at Scarness, delicious and great view; and for good pub fare try Hoolies next door.

All up we loved our holiday at Delfinos, and definitely would stay there again.
