This was our favorite stay of our Africa trip because of the warm hospitality from the staff! Excellent healthy and delicious food options at every meal. Delicious homemade ginger tea and espresso based coffee. Calm and peaceful environment with beautiful grounds. Coming back from gorilla trekking they offer to clean your boots and provide a foot massage - the boots come back looking better than when you bought them! At night they have people go around with fire coals to start the fireplace in your room. They also deliver warm hot water bags to your room. The only downside is no WiFi in the rooms, and there could be some better walkway lighting to get to the rooms at night as it can be hard to see. I hope to come back to this lodge one day and will absolutely recommend it to friends and family!!!

This accommodation is set in a beautiful location with views of the volcanoes. You stay in a stone cottage with a short walk to the lodge for meals, etc. The staff really makes this place special by keeping your cottage clean, setting fires nightly in a small fireplace in your room and putting cozy hot water bottle sin your bed at night as it does get a bit chilly in the mountains . Overall, the meals were buffet of average quality. When the chef would cook individually for guests when the census was lower, the meals were very well executed and delicious. Service was very good and the staff very accommodating and friendly. Overall, the lodge itself is quite dated despite recent upgrades ( electricity 24/7 and Wifi). They could use some updating on the linens, towels etc.

We absolutely loved this property and our experience. There are a couple little idiosyncrasies to note. The rooms are large but somewhat slapdashly constructed, however the only real negatives are the lack of bathroom door, the large gap under the front door, and that the showers are incredibly slippery. The bed was huge and comfortable, and the outlets were convenient. The meals and drink selection were good. No wifi in the rooms but good enough in the ample common area. The staff was all very kind and helpful, and the man who comes by with hot coals for the fireplace was much appreciated and the team who cleaned our muddy boots did a frankly unbelievable job, although the slippers they provided were dingy and a bit gross. The musical performance in the evening against the backdrop of the Virunga Mountains was truly special and we will never forget it. I will point out that the constant parade of visitors to our room to provide unnecessary little services, each needing a tip, became extremely tiresome by the second night. We don’t mind tipping for good service, but we felt it was a bit over the top. Plus we like our privacy and after traveling around the world to get there, we would’ve appreciated a little peace and quiet in the room. Otherwise a remarkable accommodation in one of the most amazing places on earth.

We had a wonderful time during our stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for two nights in August 2021. It was booked as part of our Treks2Rwanda itinerary due to it's location for the gorilla and golden monkey treks. Our cottage was secluded, spacious and cozy. The rooms get cool due to the location so the cottages have their own fireplace and the staff started a fire both nights. They also provided water heaters in the bed, which were a nice added touch. The staff was absolutely incredible - everyone was so welcoming and genuinely kind. The chef, Alfred, was so friendly and made delicious food for each meal. The lodge also cleaned our boots and offered a foot massage free of charge after both the gorilla and golden monkey treks - and the boots truly came back cleaner than when we bought them! The lodge has an outdoor firepit that was a lot of fun to relax around. Overall, this was a wonderful lodge with even more wonderful staff!

Stayed at the lodge for one night having travelled from Kigali for a early morning start Gorilla walk the next day. Very comfortable ladges set in the ground of the main building. Our thanks to all staff especially Gilbert who made it a great stay. This lodge does what is says on the tin and provides a great base to visit the national park. You can hire everything from boots, gaiters to coats at the adjoining shop, as well as great boot cleaning service (and dried) on your return from the park. This is a no frills lodge, with very friendly staff, good food, great lodges and an open fire in your room to warm you. Thanks all

MGVL is a great mid-range lodge located near Volcanoes National Park. Service is excellent with great attention paid to guest comfort and satisfaction. Cabins are large and comfortable with the staff coming by to light the fireplace on cool nights. There is an enthusiastic nightly dance program featuring local talent. Food is good quality and reasonably varied. We loved the baby bananas and passion fruit for breakfast. Bar is well stocked.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at this hotel which is very close to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Center and also the starting point for hikes to see the golden monkeys and mountain gorillas. Each room is its own cottage so they are very private and some can be quite a few steps from the main building where reception and the restaurant is located. As I understand, Wi-Fi was fairly recently extended from the main building out to the individual rooms. It worked, but was very slow. We had much faster Wi-Fi in the main building. Hot water in the shower was good or could be nonexistent at times. The rooms were very large with good lighting in the large bathroom and near the bed, but poor lighting near the area where you store your clothes. We loved the hot water bottle that was used to warm our bed every evening and the fireplace in our room that the employees lit to take the chill out of the room. We were most impressed with all the employees and their friendliness and willingness to help you. This was evident everywhere from the front desk, spa, bar and restaurant staff. Our electrical adapter broke and they loaned us one to get us by. We especially were impressed with Gilbert who always seemed to be available to bring us what we needed or answer our questions.

Wonderful stay here at the Lodge. Loved our huge room with the Fireplace. The young man that lit it for us every night was cheery & professional. The food was marvelous. The special treatment we got when we returned soaked & chilly after our Gorilla experience was phenomenal! They met us with dry sandals & stripped off our wet shoes & socks & cleaned & dried them before we were ready to go out the next morning. The grounds were well maintained & the views were gorgeous. Having a hot water bottle at the foot of our bed each night was magical! Highly recommend a stay here! We loved it!

We came to Mountain Gorilla View in September as the first part of our honeymoon. Our guide was Pacifique who was incredible, nothing was too much and we really enjoyed our few days with him. This hotel is a great location, the views are amazing and it really does feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. It was very local to the Gorilla trekking check in and start points which was really useful when getting up in the morning. The rooms were basic but clean and there was a large amount of space. There was only wifi in the living room area but it was a nice comfortable area and we enjoyed having a drink there after our evening meal. The food was nice, some variety but it was buffet style so had been sitting there a while sometimes. The staff were amazing, very friendly and went the extra mile for us. We would definitely recommend.

The service and the location was amazing. The staff are very very friendly, they distribute hot water jugs late in the afternoon to warm up your bed or ask to light a little fire in your room.

Overall, the price is too high for what you get. The bathroom is not clean, shower barely works, you have to be lucky to have a hot shower, towels are always damp (therefor your clothes sometimes too) and sometimes even dirty,… The rooms are very big, a little too big even.

We stayed for 3 nights and the buffet doesn’t change much.

No wifi in the rooms, which we did not mind. The wifi at the reception works ok, but considering everyone sits there for that reason it tends to be quite slow.

Would not recommend considering the price is too high. If they renovate the bathroom and make the buffet more diverse, that would make our experience better.

Yes, I know first hand. The porters who help you get to the gorillas in Rwanda and wonderful, I have never had anyone look after me so well. They are worth every penny. And yes, it cost me US$200 PLUS a tip. There are eight men who carry you up and back down. I gave US$100 tip as that's all I had on me. After thinking about it I didn't think that was enough for 8 brave men. They seemed happy though. I then went to the bank to give them another US$60, so that at least they had $20 each, as that is all they get paid. I would highly recommend them as they treat you like royalty. If the mountain gets too hard for you they will organise this service very quickly. I don't think I held up the group, in some cases we beat them to our destination. It was also raining when I was there. I would do it again and I didn't care the cost, worth double what I paid. And I'm not rich, I'm on a pension. You can hire gaiters for about US$10 or $15 at the hotel, well worth it. The guides lend you a walking pole at the start of the walk, at no cost. I took metal poles which were not much good, I gave them to my porters to save carrying home, the large wooden one they lend you is much better. Good luck, it will be the best trip of our life.
