Busy hotel. Pros: basic but clean room, water, soft drinks, juice and Oreo biscuit for free replenished every day. Good and varied breakfast. Near the beach, restaurants, massages, exchange booths, public transportation, pool (the water is a bit cold though).
Cons: several irritating things. They are all minors but all together made me sulk. The check-in is 2pm even when the rooms are already done; we pay (deposit) 100 bath if we need a second key; 10% discount in the Mama restaurant (to be presented before ordering) but the fresh seafood to be grilled is not included; we have to present a card for the breakfast to the receptionist each morning, bad internet connection, staff don’t understand or speak English enough.
It is not a bad hotel but we don’t leave it happy.

We booked 4 nights here in a Deluxe Pool Access Room.
After a slight hiccup at check-in, which was the booking agent's fault, not the hotel's, we finally got to our room.
It was a good size with a nice deep bath (specifically booked for the wife) and separate shower cubicle.
Free tea and coffee were included and they also topped up the mini fridge with 2 bottles of water, a 3 pack of Oreos 2 cans of fizzy drink and 1 small carton of fruit juice, all free of charge daily.
The pool was a good size with a nice jacuzzi area. Breakfast was served to our room for the 1st 2 days, as there were very few tourists around and was plentiful and filling. After that, it was a buffet at the restaurant. We didn't need any lunch.

I would happily stay here again.

I stayed here with my 13yr old daughter. We had a pool access room which was so lovely. We often got takeaway and just hungout on our patio. The hotel is value for money. It’s fairly clean, could use a good deep clean, as the curtains and walls have some marks on them. They give you beach matts and a few extra things that are quite thoughtful. They have a hanging rack on your patio which is great for drying out wet swimsuits and towels. They are currently doing some Reno’s which will also look great when complete. My only suggestion would be to have one side of the hotel smoking and one side non-smoking. Many tourists don’t understand smoking next to other people and kids is really gross in some cultures. Our room was next to smokers so when we sat out there it was only 1m away from us. Having smoking on one side and non smoking on the other would be great for all. And if you are a smoker reading this, please be mindful that not everyone likes to breath in your secondhand smoke!

4 for the location and friendly staff. The internet was excellent for the first 2 weeks but they changed the log in process on the third week and it was terrible. It continuously cut off and wouldn't connect back. Reporting the problem did not make any difference. The pool area and the surroundings are well maintained. The room was clean and fresh.

It would be a good idea to have a water station and an ironing station near the lift. The hotel can supply refillable bottles with their logo and do away with plastic bottles. Overall it was a pleasant stay. Will probably stay there again due to the location, cleanliness and friendly staff.

We recently went to Thailand for my 40th and had high expectations from this hotel, the location and photos looked brilliant. Sadly the only good thing was the location. The hotel on the surface looks nice based on the reception but once we were showed to our room it quickly transpired that’s where it ended. We were on the 3rd floor overlooking a busy street so we’re unable to open our curtains without being overlooked. The curtains were hanging off, the bathroom was dirty, the light switches didn’t work the lights properly and switched one off in the bathroom and not the bedroom, lampshades were broken, stained bedding….I could go on. The hotel was also full of mosquitoes which I know can’t be helped but honestly they were EVERYWHERE and we were eaten to bits. This was clearly a problem for the hotel as they fumigated that hotel everyday at 4pm.
We found the hotel staff to be unhelpful and not very friendly. We mentioned a couple of things about the room not being clean, the lights not working etc and we’re told ‘it’s ok’ … was it?!
If we had not have already paid I would have moved elsewhere, for a so called 4 star hotel it was deeply disappointing and clearly NOT a 4 star.

From very welcoming staff, through the clean and decent sized room, to great location. Simply loved it!

The room was heavily discounted which obviously helped to make the decision.

Also, all Phuket Snabox requirements were met and they didn't feel like any extra hassle.

The hotel is very modern and stylish. The pool is nice. The location is great as it’s very close to the beach. The rooms depend on the location you get. If you get a pool view, it is good. If not, the view is ugly and not private. We had to keep the shades drawn all day, and the lighting in the room is dark. The bathroom is small. The drains are gaping holes with the strainers detached. There is no restaurant in the hotel. Small Refrigerator provided but no microwave. The bathtub in the chic room was a nice touch. Staff is friendly.

The hotel is great, but the beach isn't.

Our family stayed here for a week and it was a perfect hotel for us. The room was modern and seemed newly renovated with a large soaking tub, separate shower, additional sofa bed and other high end amenities.

It was also very clean and the housekeeping changed the linen daily (something you notice when traveling with a baby and a toddler).

We booked this hotel online and got a fantastic deal (appx $85 a night including breakfast & tax). Thus my 5 star rating is somewhat influenced by the fact it was so cheap relative to quality. I think it would still be fair to pay about double that rate given the facilities and location.

The hotel is about a standard city block from the beach, situated at the end of a small street so it's very easy access to the beach and is also surprisingly quiet. The pool is decent, and the swim-up rooms seem to be the way to go (small private patio leading directly into the pool) but we had a higher floor room because the hotel didn't want to put our young kids in a poolside room for safety reasons.

A nice amenity that is illustrative of the small customer-friendly touches they offer was that the rooms all have mini fridges that were stocked daily with free items including a soda, can of beer, Juice box and snickers bar. They also provided a mesh beach bag with a beach blanket, which was thoughtful and useful.

The hotel is quite family friendly - they don't charge extra for kids under 4, and the pool closes at 8pm so it's not a wild party at night. It's not a singles social scene type hotel- we saw mostly couples and families and a few larger groups of friends.

The breakfast buffet was very nice. A large spread of hot Thai dishes that were more lunch/dinner style than a typical western breakfast, plus a table of breads, fruit and a made to order omelet station. My husband got grossed out when the omelet guy wiped his nose before touching some food but I suppose much worse happens behind closed doors in kitchens all the time...

The restaurants associated with this hotel were also good - Mama on the corner was some of the best food we found in kata and reasonably priced. I particularly liked a spicy noodle dish, but most everything we ordered there was decent and the menu is huge. Bizarrely, Black Pearl restaurant next door has the same menu, same prices, and shares the kitchen but has fancier decor. Not sure why they have two facades to the same restaurant but it was good food nonetheless.

The hotel is not a "resort", in that while you sleep there and have breakfast, you go out for your other meals and walk a block to the beach. So if you're looking for an all inclusive this is not the hotel for you. But it's centrally located if you're up for exploring town of kata with it's restaurant and bar scene.

As for Thai massages- the two spots on the same small street as the hotel, near the corner (opposite the Mama and Black Pearl
restaurant) were both good and clean spas with decent massages. If you get an oil massage then they use tables with a face hole (which I find to be more comfortable than lying on a mat with your face turned to the side- which you get for the traditional thai massage) We tried some other massage spots in town that weren't as good. They also were very accommodating and helped watch my baby while I was massaged. (We tipped them extra for that).

The major negative with our stay was kata beach itself. It was packed and it's not really high season yet. What made it particularly odd was that 99% of the tourists were Russian and it feels strange to be somewhere where all the visitors are from just one place. It didn't feel like we were in Asia. We also had plenty of laughs at the Russian women glamorously posing on the beach -which seemed to be their favorite activity there- and if it weren't so overrun with people (and thus a bit dirty- cigarette butts on the sand, Etc, and we found a used condom by our towel one morning) the beach would be beautiful.

Kata noi beach was much nicer and much less crowded but it's a real hike up a steep hill and down a bunch of stairs to the sand. It only took about 15 minute to get there but we were exhausted by the heat and the hill/stairs and it's not really doable with a stroller or young kids. (Also there was almost no natural shade on kata noi beach. )

When we were booking we considered the sister hotel, sugar marina - Nautical, but I think Fashion is much better situated and I'm glad we picked it. Fashion is equally close to kata beach and it's on flat ground as opposed to on a steep hill. It's also closer to the main town restaurants and bars yet Fashion also seems to be more quiet as its set back farther from the road. The main advantage Nautical seems to have is that it's half way up the steep hill towards kata noi, and if you plan to spend your time on that beach, it's probably the closest hotel to kata noi that isn't a fancy large resort. But if you plan to frequent kata beach instead, or if you plan to go out frequently in town, I'd book at Fashion rather than Nautical.

Overall I give sugar marina fashion top ratings because they really delivered on location (with the caveat that we don't love kata beach- but if you're going to be there, this is the place to stay), amenities, food, and service (the front desk staff wasn't great but the housekeeping and restaurant staff were lovely and highly accommodating of kids)
At at the bargain price we paid, they earned 5 stars from me.

We stayed in Sugar Palm Resort from 21 to 29 August 2006. We booked it through Asia Web Direct (web site: ---). The price for the package was very good.

When we arrived to the resort we were not disappointed with our choice. It is very nice, very modern with a bit of oriental influence. It's almost new. The location is pretty good: 2 min. walk to the beach and it’s surrounded by restaurants, shops and massage rooms.

In general, we are very happy with the hotel and service. However there was very frustrating incident involving Reception Manager which spoilt our otherwise very good experience. We asked her assistance to call local tour company. After she did, she asked us to pay 20 Baht for the phone call. It's not the money that matters (however 20 Baht for the local phone call is quite a lot) but the fact itself. The hotel reception is there to assist guest with their needs, to help them and make them welcome. Flight and tour confirmations, help with reservations of all kinds is supposed to be part of their service. This is even for 2-star hotels. That's why it was really frustrating to be treated as described above especially by Reception Manager and in the 4-star resort.

Otherwise, the rest of the hotel staff was very friendly. The hotel rooms are very nice and modern, so is the swimming pool. Good location - close to the sea, restaurants and shops. One suggestion to the hotel: fit some shelves in the wardrobe (for some reason there are none) and a rail for the face towels. The staff should also improve their English as we had few instances of misunderstanding especially at the restaurant.
