We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our tour. The hotel is dated, with fairly large rooms. There is no elevator so be prepared to walk up the stairs or ramp if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The room was comfortable enough and had everything one needs including a small refrigerator, but it's dated and worn looking. It's less than a 5 minute walk to the beach, and has every type of restaurant or street food within easy walking distance. It's a good location to be accessible to 7-11 stores and markets for shopping. We found the included breakfast to be basic but plentiful enough so you won't leave hungry. The restaurant prices are some of the highest around so look around at dinner time. The front desk staff and housekeeping staff were lovely and friendly always offering suggestions. The hotel is good value, with very clean rooms but don't expect fancy or modern facilities.

I stayed here at part of a tour from Realistic Asia. When I arrived, they said I was upgraded to a pool view room which was very nice and totally quiet. The room was large, clean, had a kettle with coffee and tea, and two bottles of water per day. The pool is very clean and good-sized. It’s a very short walk to the beautiful beach. You can get anything you need - Street food, restaurants, 7/11, ATM’s, taxis, nearby. Only be aware that there is no elevator or hairdryer and WiFi in rooms is weak. Lobby and restaurant WiFi is fine. Breakfast buffet was very good and I only had a drink and a snack in the restaurant. I would stay here again.

Very happy we chose this hotel. Love the style, from the entrance to the pool and the rooms. Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Rooms cleaned well daily.
We sometimes had the pool to ourselves especially first thing in the morning.
Reception very helpful on the few occasions we needed something.
Our room wasn’t ready as we arrived early but there is a shower room where we could sort ourselves out after the long journey.
Some of the other customers were not very friendly but that didn’t spoil our time.
We would stay again if we go back to Kata.
We had a pool view room which was a lovely size and better than the side rooms.

Go left at the main road and there is a fabulous food market, the best pad Thai we had. We ate lunch there almost daily.

The park over the road accessed by the beach has exercise equipment.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Poolside Resort, thank you!!!!

The hotel staff were very welcoming and always helpful. Room was very large and cleaned daily. Hotel is close to a great food market and also the beach. Small pool area but never a problem getting a sunbed.
The only negative was that our 'mountain view' room actually faced onto a large fence and air conditioning units. If booking again I would ask for a room overlooking the pool or reception area.

Very good location, close to Kata beach. Nice people, good rooms. My room was with a pool view, quiet, clean and large, far away from the street.

Breakfast was average. Dear manager, please add yogurts, cheese, add some differ fruits and it will be much better) quality of food and coffee was good.

Since 2007 I visit Kata Poolside once or twice a year. It’s located near the beautiful Kata Beach. The rooms are big and have everything you need during your vacation. Friendly staff is working who are willing to help if you have any issue. On the front you have the lobster restaurant where you can have your breakfast. You can eat here as well for lunch and dinner for a reasonable price.

We arrived one day earlier, and had a fast and easy check-in. The staff is nice, helpful, and friendly. The hotel is conveniently located 3 min away from the beach, on the street full of shops, restaurants, ATMs, and taxis. The room is rather big, clean and nice.

Once you get into your room, you see several print-outs on the table, saying how much you can be charged for damaging any of the hotel property. The list includes towels, sheets, glasses – everything, including the big mattress and lamps! Thus, you need to make sure that you don’t forget your glasses at the pool or break them – you will be charged 30 bahts. If you get a tattoo and spot a towel or a sheet, here, you pay 100 bahts (there is a special warning about “the tattoo charge” on the bathroom door), and so on, and so on. So, instead of enjoying your vacation, you need to be always alert and not to break a glass or a teapot.

There is a tea/coffee making facility in the room, but they have never replenished our coffee, so we used it only once. The hotel is called Poolside Resort, but only 12 rooms have a pool view (6 per block), and the rest have to enjoy a breathtaking view of the roof or the kitchen of another hotel. I should admit that the pool is pretty, even though not large.

The hotel lacks such simple amenities as a press-iron or the bathroom at the pool area (the nearest toilet is in your room). There is not enough water in the shower, and the shower is tiny, and without a hose. You have to sign in and out to get a pool towel, too (which you can do only at the reception area). They sell wireless internet cards to use, but those never get to function and specifically say “no refunds”. The restaurant is not bad and very popular, however, the breakfast menu is unexciting and non-variable. There is no night entertainment in the hotel, not even a bar (the poolside bar is open from 12 – 18.00).

We are quite easy people and really didn’t bother too much about all the above stuff, but the checkout really changed drove us nuts! Upon the checkout, we were presented with a bill for the snacks and drinks from the minibar that we have never touched!!! We tried to argue, but they kept shaking their handwritten register in front of us, showing that we had all the drinks and snacks on the same day, when we were not even in town! The funniest thing is that the prices of the minibar drinks that we had been printed on the bill, were then manually crossed and corrected for more expensive prices! They were scandaling with us, so, of course, we ended up paying for the things we had never consumed. After all, we didn’t care for extra 5 dollars, but overall, we left with a disgusted feeling. The place is so concerned about making sure that they don’t have to incur any expenses because of tourism that they totally forgot to be customer oriented! In no way, I would recommend this hotel to any traveler, and definitely, I will never come back!

Kata Poolside was a great value, clean hotel.
Just across the road from the beach.
Rooms were spacious and clean.
The pool area had about 20 beds, but this wasn't a problem as they were never full.
The pool area had plenty of shade.
Pool was very clean.

If I had to do it all again. There is NO WAY i would stay there. 7 nights of disappointment. The food at the restaurant was not good at all. The staff had limited English. The funniest is that you only get coffee and tea bags on the first day of arrival in your room. Thereafter it was not replenished. The bed sheets were changed once a week.

We really liked staying at this hotel. We have been to Phuket 8 or so times over the years and usually stay at Holiday Inn Patong. Our kids are older now and Patong is getting a little too busy for us so we decided to venture out to Kata.

We chose this hotel as my mum has stayed here the last two years, each time for a month. She has always spoken very highly of the hotel, it’s staff and location.

The hotel is a very good three star hotel. It is set back from the road so it is very quiet. The restaurant is at the front of the hotel (road side) and there is a small car park in between the restaurant and main reception area.

We had organized the two pool access rooms of the first building. There is a small set of steps from the patio into the pool and it wouldn’t really be good for those who are not good on their feet as it could be an effort on the way back up. The pool was always very very clean – I was impressed with the cleanliness. I really hate dark rooms and avoid them like the plague and I was worried about this. However it was not as dark as I had expected and there was not issue. The furniture is dark which I think gives the impression there is limited sunlight but no so.

We found the hotel staff very helpful and attentive. We had hired scooters and the security guy always helped us get the bikes out when they had been parked in. He also helped show us how to lock the handle bars properly.

The rooms were always clean and the bed was comfortable. We had one room with a roll away bed which was of very good standard and not as I had expected.

The breakfast was very good (remember this is a three star hotel). Disappointed to see other guests take heaps of the popular items (eg croissants) and then only eat half. It was funny to see the staff only put out two or three at a time after this happened a few times.

There were a few mosquitoes in our room so I went on the hunt for one of those tennis racket style mosquito zappers. I couldn’t find one and asked the reception staff where I could purchase one. They told me some directions to a shop which seemed complicated, but then said they would happily purchase for me (I paid of course). Best $4 ever spent as my hubbie had so much fun with it.

Importantly at the front of the hotel there is a fruit stall during the day and in the evening a pancake stall. It is a 5 minute or less walk to the beach (poster who said 10 minutes must have been crawling). Hotel is next to a soi with heaps of restaurants in it, but a good 10 minute walk to the ‘girlie bar area’.

I rated this hotel as excellent due to price, location and rooms. Sure it isn't 5 star but considering everything it is excellent.

Is there a designated beach area with lounge chairs for this resort?

This is not a resort. It is just a hotel. The answer to your question is "yes" there is Kata beach within a two minutes walk. The rent umbrellas and lounge chairs. Beautiful beach too!
Answer from meatdowntown

Unfiortunately there is only one answer. From airport to Kata you must take a taxi for 800Baht. On your way back, you can start negotiations with other cab drivers two days before your departure. I have paid 500Baht to airport on the way back. You are going to love the Kata beach and the convenience of the hotel. It is not fancy at all.
