We recently arrived at Chaba Hotel after seeing it reviewed well in the area. We didn't have a booking, just rang once we arrived and they picked us up (free of charge) from a nearby area.
Only booked for one night, instantly found the staff to be excellent, friendly and very keen to help.
The pool area is really great, the main big pool and little kids pool have poolside bar adjacent and then a 3rd more secluded pool is just on the other side of the bar area.
We stayed with 2 kids (11 and 12) and they loved the free pool table.
We spent a number of days just at the hotel playing pool and swimming, having lunch and dinner at the restaurant which did very good meals.
Prices were excellent (850baht) per room (low season), including, as already reviewed, an excellent buffet breakfast. Also free bottles of water each morning and towels available for pool / beach use.
Based on the great experience and staff, we extended our stay out to 11 nights and had a great and relaxing time.
Previous reviews mentioned poor WIFI, that was the case when we first arrived, however while we were there, they re-did the whole system and it's now great, and free.
It's a 5-10 minute walk to Kata Beach and 5 mins to the main shopping area, so it was excellent that these things were very close, but not too close and therefor the hotel kept that quiet feel to it. The walk to the beach (the short way) is along a waterway, as previously mentioned, but we didn't find it too bad and it's about 150m - so not a long walk.
The rooms were very clean, including the bathrooms. The TV reception wasn't great, but we were not there to watch the TV, so no problems there.
Kata is a little way from Patong Beach and the shopping centre however they accessible by bus, which I would recommend, as the taxi prices in Phuket are a little extreme compared to elsewhere in Thailand (everywhere seems to be 500 baht - about $20.00 aud). There is no fault of the hotel there, it's just the Phuket taxi system which is, as I understand, pretty well controlled by organised crime and therefor the price is the price and no one is really game to undercut that.
That said, we got a hang of the local bus system and found it good and cheap. The bus to Patong (and the shopping centre) can be caught from outside 'Dino Mini Golf' and is about 35 baht per person, seems to run every half an hour, but does finish at about 6. Similarly, the bus can be caught from near the Central Festival Shopping Centre (5 minute walk away) and goes back past the mini golf. So a 5 minutes walk each end of the trip for a very considerable saving.
All in all, would highly recommend this property and for the money, I would struggle to think it could be beaten. It's not a massive resort with a kids club, pools with swim up bars and so on, but; a) we were not after that and b) it was about one eighth of the cost of that type of resort in the area and I believe it has everything the average family and couple would need.
There is no fitness centre, but after speaking with staff, I understand one is in the planning, which would be a great addition and really top off a great place to stay.
And Bjorns across the road is good for a meal too!

What a find .Came across the Chaba last year, and decided to try it this year. From the time we checked in till the time we left , nothing was a problem or too much trouble for any of the staff. Booked a suite ,Room 412 which was well worth the price . Breakfast is included and is quite ample to set you up for a day. The pool and gardens are beautiful ,and well maintained ,and lovely to come back to after a day at the beach. Close enough to restaurants and bars to give you plenty of options for a night out ,and quiet enough to get a good nights sleep on your return. Will certainly be returning .

We enjoyed our stay at the Phuket Chaba for 5 nights and found the majority of the staff to be very helpful. I didn't like the system of having the safe at the from desk as it was a pain to be going backwards and forwards to it. We had a 2 bedroom bungalow(3b) which did overlook the green stagnant water and directly in front and to the side of our balcony was a spare plot which looked like a rubbish dump. However, it did not smell and we were grateful not to be on the main road. The pool was fabulous. The previous review said there were only a few deck chairs but we never found it a problem to get one. The breakfast was more than adequate, trying to cater for all the tastes of different cultures but for us they had lovely pineapple and watermelon, eggs, great thai food( green curry/noodles/stir fried vegs) toast, jams and to top it off, fabulous hot PROPER coffee! My only complaint would be the pillows which were very bulky but this seems to be everywhere in Thailand.
Kata however was disapointing compared to our last trip there 3 years ago. The beach was packed to capacity with beach chairs lining the beach from one side to another, 3 or 4 rows of them. We only heard another 2 people speak English in our 5 days there which wasn't a problem for my husband and I but my older teenage son and his cousin, both 19, found the nightlife pretty boring, even after venturing to Karon on a couple of nights.
The Chaba has a great night market opposite the hotel on a Monday and Thursday night. The prices are good, you can get some prices down, but most of them are low anyway. The food section was interesting and we ate fabulous corn on the cob, spring rolls and pad thai(quite hot!)

First off, I emailed them two days before that we will be arriving at 11:30 P.M at the hotel and of course they did not reply my email. Lo and behold, as I've guessed, the room that I requested 4 months ago in October, 10% deposit paid and when we got there somebody was still occupying our room so I was placed in a temporary room, mind you I was tired and haven't slept.

Without feeling of guilt, they called me and told me that I needed to get out of the temporary room by 12 noon because somebody else is going to occupy the room and I CAN"T GET INTO MY ROOM RIGHT AWAY UNTIL 2 P.M! THE ROOM WHICH I BOOKED IN OCTOBER 2012!!!!!! So I had to wait two hours in which I wanted to sleep. THEY SIMPLY SAID WHY DON'T YOU GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND COME BACK AT 2 while they should rush cleaning my room as soon as possible so I can get into the room. Luckily I rented a car for the whole duration of the stay.

The bungalow that I rented was at the back near a brackish water, an old building, the bedroom had A.C but the living room didn't. So I need to open the bedroom door to let the cold air into the bedroom. The room was fine but the window by the bathtub was full of feces from maybe geckos, rats, or God knows what that never been cleaned in I don't know how many donkey years.

Luckily the bungalow beside us was under construction so it remained empty for the duration of our stay. But if it was filled, good luck sleeping because the wall was so thin that you can hear everything from people talking to moving around. I would not stay at the bungalow again. The only thing that was good was the t.v, it had tons of cable channels and a nice Sharp Aquos flat screen. While the handyman was fixing the bungalow next door, he smoked, and you can smell the smoke coming in through my room and IT WAS A NON SMOKING BUNGALOW!

On the third day the A.C stopped blowing cold air and they fixed that. The fifth day, the electricity went out for 3 hours plus lucky we had a car and didn't have to stay in the sauna for 3 hours plus. THEY DID NOT HAVE A BACK UP GENERATOR WHICH THEY MUST HAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Along the perimeter of the hotel just outside the entrance, there were trash, empty bottles, foam cups, foam plates, papers that weren't picked up since the day we got there. Mind you , we stayed there for 13 days!

I would not stay at Chaba again. If you stay at the newer rooms, don't stay at the room overlooking the road/above the restaurant, because in the evening they had a live band from the restaurant below the room and the restaurant next door until 10 p.m, so you will enjoy the loud live singing until 10 p.m from both downstairs and next door.

I and my wife had a fantastic stay here (oct12-19).Their hospitality was great. Kata beach ,7-11 and everything you need is only walkable distance. Local markets and Thai veg restaurant is available just back side of the hotel(karon- Phuket rd) in a walkable distance. The breakfast is very good and the 3 swimming pools are also nice.
A small suggestion from our side is that you can add some more sea foods. On the whole we enjoyed the stay and also recommend families.

I am a budget traveler, always looking for clean, comfortable, with mod cons for the right price.
This hotel has just what I need. 2 swimming pools, restaurant, bar, handy to beach shopping and entertainment. Low discount rate in October, if booked online. Was very clean and modern with
Friendly staff. Coffee/ Tea making facilities, fridge, TV, large bathroom and shower. The only thing missing is a safe in your room. Excellent value for money a quarter of the price my friends were paying for similar hotel nearby.

Staff could not do enough to help - we arrived at 11:45 pm after having to leave another awful hotel down the road and the housekeeper came especially to make our extra bed in our room. The rooms are kept clean with fresh towels every day. The pool is lovely and the location excellent. I don't have one negative thing to say about this hotel, the value for money is excellent. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at Chaba for 3 nights in February and wish we had stayed for longer! The hotel is clean and we had plenty of space in our room with lots of natural sunlight which seems pretty rare in Phuket hotels (we stayed at 4 different hotels during our trip). There was a clean pool with sun beds for those not wanting to walk down to Kata beach. Kata beach is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel but be warned you will have to walk pass some unpleasant sewers (nothing to do with the hotel but just where the path is located!)

Breakfast was quite good with a mixture of both hot and cold food. We also tried their bbq buffet which I think happens once a week and the food was good.

The staff at Chaba goes the extra mile to make you feel welcomed. Not only did they book tours for us but also gave us lifts to kata noi beach and when we moved to the next hotel, they drove us there!

The location is convenient with shops and restaurants nearby but also alway from the main roads which makes it all in all a comfortable stay.

Rather than venturing out to the main strip to eat, we found a little gem nearby that did good food at amazing prices, Racha Guesthouse. When you come out of Chaba hotel, take a right towards the roundabout and then take a left. Keep walking for a few minutes and you will find this place.
