We stayed a month, Feb 6 to March 6, 2023. A very pleasant stay in a very pleasant hotel. Close to everything. Stayed in a basic room. Quality fittings and appliances (Electrolux, Samsung, Daiken). Rooms (lounge/kitchenette, bedroom) comfortable with plenty of storage and power points. Our tariff did not include any cooking things, tea towels, knives. Bought 2 knives locally for about 50c each. Plates, cups, bowls, forks and spoons were included. Bed very comfortable but a little too big for the room, therefore only one bedside table and reading lamp. Any issues were promptly fixed – there was no water one afternoon, reported and fixed within 15 minutes. However, when I reported it I was reminded rather sternly that no kitchen equipment was supplied at my tariff level, which wasn’t really the reason for my call. Shower was excellent. WiFi fast and consistent but it did require very frequent sign-ins. Breakfasts were good and very fresh. Great egg station. Breakfast staff very friendly and efficient. The restaurant put on outdoor inexpensive dining a couple of nights a week. The pools were a bit of a problem for us old folk, though. No handrails to assist in getting in and out – just steps. HOWEVER, there was a lovely pool behind the hotel, with a great bar/restaurant and very comfortable seating and HANDRAILS! We suspect it belonged to the hotel next door but no-one questioned our use of it. Grand Kata: put in some handrails! One glitch: we pre-paid 1500B to the hotel for a airport pickup; there was no driver waiting in what was signposted at the airport as the hotel pick-up area. We taxied in at what we discovered is the standard taxi price, 1000B. So we saved about $AU21. The hotel has promised to take us to the airport on checkout for the money already paid – this is written 2 days before check-out.... The hotel is well located, a taxi (either open, tul-tuk style, or a sedan) will take you to Kata Beach for 200B, or to Patong for 400B. A private taxi can take you on any island tour you want – we opted for back roads – for 400B an hour. We did 6 hours for $AU100. Good value. Our favourite eating joint was the Dome Restaurant, two doors down. Consistently good food, good prices. And remember, the hotel needs 3000B in cash on check-in, as a security deposit (there’s a folder in the room giving all the costs to you if things are lost or stolen, ranging from 100B for a teaspoon to 11,000B for a 6-foot mattress). I had to wander down the road at 9pm to find a money changer. So yes, we can strongly recommend a stay at the Grand Kata VIP. Bring your own knives.

I really like my stay at this property! The room was pretty big, like an apartment with living room, separated bedroom and bathroom. Very nice furnished and comfortable. It was cleaned every dayand the towels were changed on a daily basis as well. Breakfast was very good. I liked the rooftop pool area. Also liked the location- very close to Kata and Karon beach. The hotel provides pool and beach towels. So, you don’t have to be worried about the towels if you want to go to the beach and don’t need to bring yours.

Construction site- yes, there is a construction site just next to the property. My room was facing it, but I had no complains about that. The works start around 8 or 9 in the morning and finish around 6 in the evening. I had no problems with the noise, since I was usually out the room in that period.

Beautiful apartment at a very good price. Room was comfortable with a king bed in a separate bedroom. Large balcony, and all construction around the hotel was on hold, so it was quiet as well. Two pools. The breakfast was good with both hot and cold selections. Hotel and rooms very clean and modern. Short walk to the beach and there were numerous restaurants, shops, convenience stores and markets nearby. Very good location,

The staff at the Grand Kata were amazing, they were so helpful, friendly, kind, and accommodating, We had some issues (not related to the hotel) and they did everything possible to assist. Everyone from the front desk to the pool guy to the breakfast staff were fantastic, can’t say enough about the customer service they provided. Big thank you to them all, you made our stay so enjoyable.

Had issues with check-in where I was put in another room and not the one requested. The room had twin beds rather than a double. When mentioning this to the staff they insisted it was the room I looked at the day before. It wasn’t. They then accused me of lying and said would check the CCTV. Funnily enough after checking CCTV (how ridiculous) they made a mistake but offered no apology other than I could swap rooms.

To make matters worse the keycard would not work and I was told to wait for maintenance whilst they changed a battery in the door.

There no utensils other than a few plates and knifes and forks. No cooking tools.

The 5th floor pool had rubbish overflowing from the bin 3 days in the row. It was not emptied and it did not feel anyone would take responsibility for the cleanliness of the hotel.

The breakfast selection was poor with little choice. Although there is an “egg station” where they will cook eggs to your liking. I only ate in the hotel twice and ate elsewhere afterwards. The food really wasn’t great.

I tried canceling my stay after one night but the hotel would not offer a refund.

Some staff training is required. There’s a lot nicer hotels in the area for less money. I would not recommend staying here. The hotel could easily make some changes to actually offer a “VIP” experience.

A lovely hotel with great rooms ,great breakfast & dinners.
Unfortunately we had a bad experience with the receptionist regarding our complaint with the gym lack of air conditioning working,no towels,no sanitizer & no drinking water.I was told it was not customary to provide these commodities.????
Our room was facing a new building construction with daily noise ,which was really annoying from 7 am to 6 pm.
Should not have been allowed to book us into such a location????
The Wi Fi is very poor.
Hopefully the gym standards will improve.

Upon arrival staff were very pleasant and upgraded our room to 2nd tower where it was very quiet(prob for older people!!) with great pool. Hotel has 2 decent pools.
Value for money. Rooms very well set out, large balcony. Breakfast was good, lots to choose from.
Grand Kata VIP is centrally located, walking distance to all shops and beach. Great restaurant next door, with great food.
The only negative I have is the outdoor tiles are extremely slippery when wet, could be very dangerous.
Would definitely return.

Rooms are clean and very modern. True comfort with a living room, balcony, and separate bedroom. It has a straight walk of about 5 minutes to the beach and surrounding restaurant.

I highly recommend the breakfast as the staff is really attentionate and the food is really good. Actually every staff in the hotel is very nice and looking to make you comfortable. It was really a wonderful stay!

Lovely staff but running on a shoe string.
Do not look over the edge of the infinity pool - the drain is green and full of litter 🤢
Pool bar not staffed: phone for room service!
Happy hour at the pool bar: only a very limited list of cocktails. No beer, no non alcoholic drinks.
Good breakfast and generous provision of free bottled water though unfortunately it was in plastic bottles.

We had a 3 bedroom apartment, which was large with everything we needed. Easy check in and out, reception arranged our transfer to Patong.
The breakfast was great, plenty of options and great eggs.
My kids loved the pools, was nice to lounge around the infinity pool and have a cocktail.
Easy walk to lots of restaurants, massages and money exchange right across the road.
The Kata Night Market has closed, we didn't know until arriving, so was a little disappointed by that.
We hired a scooter as our transport to and from the beach as in the heat it wasn't a pleasant walk.
Love Kata beach, plenty of sun lounges if you want them and never hassled to buy from beach vendors too much.

Turned up late afternoon, negotiated a great deal in a new luxury apartment. Room was very modern and clean . The front desk staff were very polite and friendly and the pool and bar boys were fantastic and joined in playing bar games with us . The pool needed a little TLC which was dealt with . Breakfast was just ok with little Thia food available. The 2 evening meals we ate were lovely , clean new hotel near everything, fantastic beach 5 minute walk !!😎

Hi to get to rooms with private pools you have to go in lift to first floor, then inside the room you would think you were actually on ground floor. We could use plates and cutlery but no other equipment for some reason. We bought street food and drinks from supermarket next door to sit by pool at night. There is a hair dryer in bathroom, its not the greatest, but a typical hotel hairdryer. Rooms are lovely and very clean. Plenty of bars and restaurants, great location near beach, lots of places to visit. Worth having a good walk round to get to know the area. We have booked to go back too. Have a fab holiday.

The hotel does not rent scooters but there are places within 50 metres of the hotel who do. Be careful if you get one, it’s a bit crazy on the roads!!
