Askari is a wonderful place, surrounded by fun and interesting people. You will work hard but get every job done with a smile, knowing you are having a positive impact on Pidwa and the conservation of Africa’s wilderness. The staff make you feel welcome straight away and fill you with knowledge you won’t easily forget. Their passion and love for...

I can't say more about my month at Askari as a volunteer. I was a bit skeptical at first about volunteering programs (I'm a mid-career professional) and perhaps not as in-depth as I wanted. The program exceeded my expectations! Katie and Ed lead the program and they do a brilliant job. They are so committed and enthusiastic about conservation and...

Thanks for the review Elise, it was so great to have you and Darren with us. Thank you for the kind words and it's easy to be a good teacher when we had such fantastic students like the Fortunate 5! Hope the onward travels are phenomenal.

As this was my first time volunteering, I debated for a long time whether or not to chose a globally known organisation instead of Askari. However, I am so happy I didn’t, because my month at Askari is one of the best experiences I have ever had, and one I will never forget! I volunteered alongside 4 others, which meant...

Thanks so much Kayleigh J for the review, you took the time to write so much! I never saw the photo of you on the tracker seat and the herd down the road in front of you, it's stunning! Thank you so much for being with us and for the great month we all shared. We'll see you and your...

I regularly do volunteer projects overseas, with a focus on wildlife/conservation. This project was the best I’ve done, and I’ve worked in Tonga, Indonesia, China, Thailand and this was my 4th trip to Africa. The framework was well set-up, the facilities way better than I’ve experienced before and it was ethically focused and not on income generated from the volunteers....

I first stayed at Askari in March 2016 and it was so good I had to return again before I left SA! I would encourage anyone to volunteer - I do not come from a conservation background but the programme is so informative and managers Katie and Ed so full of knowledge you leave feeling confident in the aims of...

"To put this wonderful experience into words is nearly impossible but I will try. Firstly Ed and Katie are 2 of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Their knowledge is amazing and enthusiasm to pass it on makes you want to try and use this knowledge to better yourself. The physical activities were very enjoyable and made you...

"The Askari Conservation Programme has far exceeded my expectations. As this is my second volunteer project in Africa, I came into this with a general idea of what to expect, but what I got was so much more. The staff could not have been better; everyone was so friendly, eager to help, extremely knowledgeable, and made my stay as enjoyable...

My second visit to Askari was even more amazing than my first - and I never thought I'd be able to match the first one! Every day is a new and different experience & adventure whilst at the same time contributing to the important conservation work that the reserve is dedicated to. There is a great variety in the tasks...

I felt privileged to work as a volunteer at Askari for a month, that I could share in the vision of a wilderness reserve managed for habitat and wildlife conservation as the first and only priority. And have such fun doing it! We slept under the stars one night and watched the sunrise with lions roaring in the distance. We...

The Askari programme is truly a rare experience. Their focus is on education, conservation, and restoration – which sets it apart from other reserve programs. I felt like my work was making a difference and that the people at Pidwa appreciated it. The reserve staff and guides were all extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. They were also very accommodating to the...

“Being a hardened Irish girl I was fairly confident they don't know the meaning of 'cold' in SA. They do. If it's winter when you're visiting, bring track suit bottoms and hoodies to wrap up in in the evenings. Also, don't bother overpacking with shampoo and conditioner, as soon as you arrive in Hoedspruit you'll get the chance to go to a supermarket and pick up those essentials.”
