This reveiw is hard to keep short as so much happened at our stay during the Corona Virus period. We personally want to thank Calvin, Rob and Julie for all their help while staying at the Barrier Beach Resort, if i could give them and their staff 10 stars I would!!! We were greeted by Calvin's friendly smile at 8pm after a long day getting their due to our first flight being cancelled. On arrival Calvin greeted us and gave us a quick tour as we were tired. He kept the restuarant open for us as we arrived late and showed us to our beautiful room. In the morning we awoke to a beautiful beach to which we had realised we had been upgraded from a garden vila to a beach vila. We enjoyed our first day relaxing and using the free paddle board and scuba diving equipment in the beautiful clear water. The food in the restuarant was probably the nicest food we have ever had at any resort and for that fact restuarant we have been to. Unfortunately on our first day things started to turn for the worse as we had family back home telling us we had to come back ASAP as requested from the Australian Government, to which we then had to cut our honeymoon short and start find options to get home. Unfortunately this was a very stresseful process to go through and without the help on Calvin we would have been stuck. Calvin went over an beyond helping us and the other couple stranded to get our way back to Port Vila so we could fly home. He made numerous phone calls and emails to help us find a way home. He drove us personally to and from town to the Air Vanuatu office to help us get a flight home. It took us 4 days of driving into town and to the airport to try and get on a flight back to Port Vila and Calvin had no hesitation driving us to and from and did everything he could to help us. Honestly without his help I don't know what we would have done. With his help we finally got a flight back to Port Vila and he did not leave us until we were on the plane. We will be forever grateful for all his help and the amazing staff at the Barrier Beach Resort. We were so upset we had to cut our honeymoon short but we will 100% be back to finish off our honeymoon. Shortly after we left Santo and got stranded in Port Vila cyclone Harold came and destroyed a lot of Santo and the Barrier Beach Resort. We were relevied that no one got hurt but unfortunately a lot of damage was done. Once this pandemic has eased off and things are back to normal we would 100% recommend staying here. If you are looking for a peaceful, quite, beautiful place to relax we would hight recommend coming here. In our short stay we did manage to see some of the amazing blue holes, champaigne beach and my favourite place of all Port Olry. These place are a must when visiting Santo. Once again thank you Calvin for everything you did for us we will be back!!! Lee & Tracey :)…
From the moment we arrived, the extremely friendly staff treated us like family and that never changed. The beach is pristine and the water beyond blue. Calvin and his team, along with the resort’s layout and quality delivered a practically perfect week’s getaway. Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be going back.
This resort is just beautiful. The location is ideal and the facilities are excellent. However what really makes this resort are the management team and their staff. Calvin and Julie are welcoming and experienced hosts with a wonderful support team working with them that made our stay at Barrier Beach truly memorable, Deb & Greg McInnes
Julie and Calvin are delightful hosts and nothing seems too much trouble. They arrange taxis, tours and anything else you need to make your stay enjoyable. The food and service in the restaurant is first class and we put on a couple of kilos as a result! The water in front of the resort is clear and calm and the paddle boards provided were a lot of fun to use exploring. When our flight home was delayed Calvin was very kind and allowed us to keep our room for the day which we were very thankful for.
We spent the most delightful ten days at Barrier Beach Resort, a stunning boutique resort on beautiful Espiritu Santo. Nestled up against a lovely turquoise bay and surrounded by lush rainforest gardens, BBR is an idyllic location to slow down and revitalise. We booked a lovely garden fare with plunge pool and spent a few nights there but were very generously upgraded by the owners, Calvin and Julie, to one of the new, executive ocean front fares. It was so lovely waking up to the calm beauty of the ocean and falling asleep to the sound of gently breaking waves. We spent our days cycling to beautiful local blue holes, canoeing, swimming and snorkelling in the sweet little reef at the front of the BBR. It was an idyllic and very relaxing holiday. The fact that the resort only contains 18 fares also adds to its sense of calm and beauty. The only thing more gorgeous than the locale and grounds, are the lovely staff who took such wonderful care of us. Thank you Rose, Richard, Rocky, Tony, Yvanna, Emmie and Katherine! We will definitely be returning to this gem of a place! Sasha + Frank. …
Couldn't fault this resort. It's a perfect balance of luxury with a 'shoes-optional' environment. The resort is so nicely maintained and all staff have that extra touch of friendliness as they all know your name. Location is stunning with warm blue clear water right at your door step. Food is a highlight. Staff is even better.
We recently had the best holiday at Barrier Beach Resort. The staff were all amazing, with easy communication beforehand when we were booking and organising free airport transfers and throughout our entire stay. The room was very modern, clean and comfortable. We chose one with a private pool and it was located right on the beach with the most stunning views. The resort location itself was so spectacular. Set on a beautifully quiet beach where you’d barely see another person, soft sand, clear, calm and warm water that is the best we ever swam in. We even saw a family of dugongs swimming right outside our room! There is plenty to do, snorkelling the reefs mere metres from our room, so many varieties of fish. Plenty of canoes and paddle boards etc all free for guests use. We also went to the Riri Blue Hole located very nearby which was stunning too. The resort restaurant was able to cater for our diverse tastes and a few food requirements with so much patience and kindness. The food was yummy and the atmosphere on the restaurant deck is so relaxing with a picturesque view and cute little crabs scurrying along the shore as the sun goes down. We were very pleased that the resort had a triple filtered water system and they provided us with bottles of this water everyday. They were so kind as to give us a few vouchers because we were on our honeymoon, which we greatly appreciated. Such a special place that we will always remember and definitely be back again soon. Highly recommend! Thank you for the beautiful service!…
Beautiful location, friendly staff, lovely rooms. Food was good and Calvin was helpful and personable. We were kindly upgraded to a beachside fare as the garden room was a bit hot. Be sure to pay extra if coming during the busy season to have a beachfront fare - as it really made our stay! Barrier Beach is stunning - use of the water craft and swimming were excellent. Hiring a car or driver is a good idea to see the local area, or trying some of the many tours available. Highly recommended piece of paradise in Santo.
The Barrier Beach Resort is the perfect place to 'Chill Out'. The location is amazing, great food, cocktails and staff as well as the perfect hosts Julie and Calvin. We stayed in Fare 5 which is located on the beach, the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. Highly recommend
We couldn't have asked for anything more in our hotel. BBR was just perfect. The location, the service, the incredible food, the things to do (bikes, water craft, snorkels, beach lounges, cocktail bar....), all of it was just perfect. We loved our room (huge and quiet and private with screens around the whole thing and lovely lourves to give you privacy and allow you to look over the lush green gardens). The restaurant is really your only option for dinner, but we ate there all four nights of our stay and did not get bored as there is so much variety on the menu. Recommend organising a hire car or tour prior to you arrival as we had a cruise ship in the main day we wanted to travel around and see things and instead had to wait a day for a car to be available. Not complaining and a book and a deckchair was exactly what I needed! Thank you to the super helpful and friendly owners and staff, we loved our holiday and are looking forward to coming back soon. Plunge pools are quite small and probably not worth the extra, but the larger villa was gorgeous (fare 15). Also probably the more private ones too (14, 15 and 16) though they don't face the beach it isn't far to wander through the lovely gardens to get there. …
