I stayed at Bougan Villa for a week... and it really became home. Set in the gorgeous 'gamma' setting of Handessa, you forget how close you are to the hustle and bustle of Kandy/Peradeniya I was working in the area for the week, and the owners (who have now sold up to my knowledge) treated me like a daughter. Making... More

I have traveled all over the world, and this is one of the most special places I've ever stayed. Shirlene and Jim are warm and wonderful people, and made our stay so lovely. Bougan Villa is close enough to Kandy to go in for the day, but nestled right next to a little village, which is much more interesting and... More

The owners were so welcoming and warm. The room was simple, but everything was impeccably clean and well designed. It was the little touches that most impressed. There was a pressure pump to make the shower powerful, electrical outlets next to the bed, and a sound system. The food was incredible. They have a chef in the neighborhood who was... More

Bougan Villa guest house was an incredible experience ! From the food, to the rooms, to the beautiful veranda.. it was all fantastic! The hosts, Jim and Shirlene, were wonderful. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, and cooked the most delicious food! Easily the best we ate in Sri Lanka! We initially wanted to... More

This delightful guest house is like a hidden paradise in the hills. The experience began as soon as we stepped out of the private shuttle bus with a warm, friendly greeting, a cup of tea and home made afternoon tea. The views of the surrounding paddy fields, the sound of the birds and the peace and tranquility encouraged us to... More

We stayed two nights at Bougan Villa. It is a really beautiful house. The bedrooms are simple but have everything you need along with a huge bathroom. Life is spent on the terrace which is lovely at all times of the day. The food was the best we ate in Sri Lanka (even better than Mount Lavinia) and Shirlene kindly... More

We stayed at Bougan Villa in July this year for 5 nights as a base for visiting Kandy and other places of interest in the hill country. Our first view of the guest house was breathtaking, as were the views from the terrace and garden. We were given a very warm welcome by the owners, Jim and Shirlene, and immediately... More

Friendly hosts and a lovely location with a vegetable garden and paddy fields around you, though the location is a bit too away from everything. Lovely morning with fantastic view of mountains. Shirlene is a fantastic cook and Jim a great host, though some of us (like me) might feel bad having them fuss around you. You would understand when... More

This guest house was a true gem to find. The owners, Jim and Shirlene were fantastic hosts and made our stay relaxing and special. We stayed in many other places but this was by far the best. it wasn't too expensive but was off the main road but well worth the effort to find. Our driver was also comfortable with... More

We booked for two nights and ended up very much regretting that we hadn't planned a longer stay. The setting amongst the hills and paddy fields is beautiful and deeply relaxing - perfect after the bustle of Kandy, which is just half an hour's drive away. We loved simply reading or taking tea on the verandah overlooking the luxuriant garden... More
