Poor service and basic food. Lack of attention. Fish overcooked and no taste. Rooms basic. Angry staff. Overall poor quality. Would not recommend For the price you expect more attention to detail. Had higher expectations and unfortunately it was a miss.
The hotel has a classic atmosphere and history. It is charming and has a perfect location. We had a room with the sea view and balcony. A small but cozy room. There was no TV or other amenities in the room. The SPA had sauna, Russian and Turkish bath but no pool, only shower. No view as the facility is in the cellar. Wi-fi was very weak, so was the telephone reception. The good thing is that you can enjoy the coastal promenade just outside the hotel. The restaurant serves decent food, the service is friendly. We also enjoyed the afternoon coffee provided by the hotel.
We paid 1900 Dkr ( about 295 USD) for a double room with a small, very old shower with plastic floor and textil shower curtain. The light did note work in the hallway, and bad Wifi. No welcome greeting, no bathrobe or slippers ( remember, this is a "Badehotel " close to the beach with a "Spa"). The "Spa" was located in a former basement with three different saunas, very small, and low standard. There was a jacuzzi bath-tub ( like at home), but you must reserve it in advance and pay 385 Dkr for using it. Dinner very nice, but breakfast was no success, very spartan, nothing what you expect when you pay so much for the room. I suggest the hotel needs to invest a bit of money, and new management and objectives for the future. If not, make a downgrade to Bed & Breakfast instead!
Stayed here for 4 nights in July. The location is spectacular. We had booked sea view and wow what a view it was! Beautiful. However, for the price the rooms are very basic and a bit dated. No safety box, no fridge and no tv (but you don't need tv with that view!). And no blinds more than a flimsy bambu thing. Really difficult to sleep as the nights are so light in Summer. The breakfast was terrible. So little choice and very little to eat if you are vegan and gluten free which both I and my friend are. We ended up bringing our own things to eat which we bought in a great supermarket that had an abundance of organic and vegan foods. But for such a high price we certainly had expected much more choice. Also, I have lost count on how many times the receptionist asked us if we were going to book for dinner. They asked at least three times a day. A bit irritating! We love Gilleleje but would not stay in this hotel again.…
This seaside hotel isn't on the beach, but close to a coastal footpath with views towards the Swedish coast. It is a couple of kilometers from Gilleleje harbour where there are lots of fishing boats and a lively quayside. Our room was large and comfortable. We didn't pay extra for a sea view or a balcony. The Turkish bath and sauna at the hotel are fine and there's a sweaty steam bath for the real enthusiasts. A three course dinner was included in our package and it was excellent, especially the soup and the pannacota for dessert. Service was efficient and friendly. All in all, it was lots of fun!
