Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were a party of six with three rooms. To start with, you are offered a glass of champagne/ sparkling wine on arrival, a nice touch. Sour note they couldnt find my booking but eventually did. I was allocated a partial water view room, considering I paid for a deluxe room with water view I expected that but no. Was given a partial view. The room was clean and nothing out of ordinary apart from nice tea and coffees (but longlife milk....yuk) and bathroom toiletries were Molton Brown. The bathroom was so small we could hardly use the toilet. No room to put anything on bathroom vanity. There was a dyson hairdryer which was good and the bed, pillows and iron ironing board were all good. We couldnt turn air con off and we froze. I rang reception three times only to be told they control the aircon and they would turn it up or off. The air con continued to emit loud noises so i asked them to come to room.....no I was told, we cannot do anything about it. Well after about 5 times trying the air con finally went off. There were instructions to tell us how to turn it on and off so why would reception be able to regulate our aircon? They dont know how cold we like it. Our other friends all experienced same issues with air conditioning. Its loud and freezing. The TV would only show the complimentary movies...we wanted to watch TV but couldnt get channels. Again our friends experienced same issues which no one helped us with. We spent a lot of money to stay here and it is just simply not worth it. The view, pools and proximity to beach are all lovely but for $600+ a night there should be no issues or the staff should fix them. I would much rather stay at Banisters. This resort is way overpriced.

My wife and I were really looking forward to our stay at the Anchorage as we had stayed at the Anchorage a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, on this occasion we were allocated a room with a partial view obscured by a brick wall. We did endeavour to change rooms and were offered a two bedroom loft room at a huge additional cost. We declined the offer. Our stay at the Anchorage was for three days and for two of the three days we had dinner in the main restaurant. The food was hit and miss. On the first night my wife had the snapper and she was happy with her meal, I had the tofu curry which was very ordinary. The so called crispy tofu was soggy and the curry lacked depth of flavour. The accompanying roti had the texture of a roti that had been reheated a few times and instead of having a flexible texture was like toast. The Anchorage is firmly 4 star both in food and accommodation.

Everything was perfect. From the time we checked in till we checked out. The staff were so friendly and helpful! The accommodation I rate it as 5 star! Beautiful room with a beautiful, amazing view and attention to detail on all inclusions! the bed! Oh my goodness we want one! So comfortable. The sheets, bath towels! Perfect! so luxurious! Even down to the lovely cups n saucers in our room and T2 teabags and coffee machine. Delicious food in the restaurant. Dinner was the best food we have had out for a while! Breakfast was delicious too. Even was served Champagne and orange juice for breakfast. Pretty special! We highly recommend the Anchorage Hotel and Spa. We cannot wait for our next visit! Thank you to all the staff there!! Exceptional!

Beautiful resort in a fantastic location. This was our second stay here and won't be our last. The rooms are furnished to a very high standard and the upstairs ones in particular have wonderful views over the water. The beds are so comfortable, the pillows also high quality and the towels thick and fluffy. The bathroom products are beautiful. The staff were so helpful and welcoming. Delicious breakfasts and The Galley Kitchen great for dinner. While we were in the pool a waiter came round with free watermelon and later ice blocks - a very nice touch on a warm day.

Amazing location, staff, facilities and even has an adult pool. Highly recommend a stay here. The rooms are so comfy. Try the happy hour at Mobys bar everyday 4-6pm. It’s classy it’s fresh and it’s the way to go for a stay. Friends family husbands or solo I highly recommend a stay here.

This is a classy hotel in a beautiful setting. It is situated at the end of the coastal walk from Nelson Bay. Newly, tastefully refurbished, huge bedroom, excellent staff, generous delicious breakfast - loved making our own juice. Gourmet dinner - we both had the blue-eye cod which was cooked to perfection, and shared the poached peaches with vanilla ice-cream and berry coulis for dessert. Comfortable cabanas around the one swimming pool. Yes, there is another one for adults only. We will be back.
