This hotel is on a beautiful location and have very friendly staff. Breakfast is wonderful and the rooms very nice. Our room was on the second floor and had a balcony with a stunning view. I can recommend this hotel with a nice swimming pool.
My mom and I stayed 3 nights at Casa de Canilhas. The view of the Douro river and Douro valley are incredibly amazing. A bit of a hard drive to get there but worth it when you reach the top. So for the view I could give 5 stars but the rest... The room... the AC was incredibly noisy all night long and didn’t work properly and also we were downstairs so we heard lots of noice becoming from upstairs. Also at the check in we came in earlier...at 1pm instead of 3 pm... we drove 6 hours from the Algarve to Mesao Frio and at first they told us we cannot check in and can’t stay on the property... after trying to tell them that I just drove 6hrs, she told me that we can stay but only by the pool and that they will charge us 10€ per person but she didn’t provide us with towels or water... I had to go back and ask them ... so the check in went horribly bad! Beside that, if you are looking for a view, that’s the place to go.…
First of all I have to say it was a great adventure getting to this manor in the mountain. The drive is very exciting as there are curving roads up a mountainside. When you arrive it's hard to believe you are in such a surreal spot. The grounds sit on a mountain side and the views are incredible. There is a beautiful pool to sit at or all around the grounds on loungers. The rooms are beautiful with everything you need. The ladies that look after the place are delightful and are so very helpful. The owner greeted us one morning as he went to work and is very friendly and humble about his portion of heaven. There is a lovely little village within walking distance and is well worth the walk around. If you plan on being anywhere near this place, you have to stay there for at least 2 days...…...it is spectacular !!! One more thing, the breakfast that is included is phenomenal !…
We had a night to spend in the Douro valley region and opted for Casa de Canilhas after seeing photos posted by other travellers on TripAdvisor. Let me tell you, the photos barely even do it justice. The Casa is positioned on such a perfect spot on a bend in the river that allows you to watch boats and ships cruise lazily by all day. The house itself seems to be a family house in addition to the B & B but check-in was pretty simple. There isn't parking in the driveway of the house but about 20 meters from the driveway there is roadside parking available. It was fine for us as we just had small bags. We ended up in a room that was separate from the house with a private balcony that overlooked the orange trees, vines and river. It was perfection. Even though it was cold we were able to sit out on the patio with the help of some blankets that were in the room. The rooms themselves and the house where breakfast and the common rooms are located in is designed in a traditional portuguese style. If you are looking for modern, clean, minimalist this isn't the place for you. But it is cozy and romantic. The room included breakfast the next morning, nothing fancy but pretty standard portuguese breakfast. Bread, yoghurt, some eggs, cold cults and cheeses. Hot coffee and hot milk to put in it.…
What can I say. So so lucky to have found it. It was the best 2 days of our stay in Portugal. The views are simply gorgeous. It's balm for the soul for us city dwellers. The house is from an old Victorian story book. Delicious breakfast served cheerfully by the staff. Special mention to the staff of smiling, helpful girls. The rooms are very well done and bathrooms wonderful too. the owner lady is very warm too. If you get availability, just take it. I can't wait to go back. It's my dream house.
