Love this place. My husband and I returned for our 6th wedding anniversary after spending the weekend of our wedding here. The place is super nice, cosy, big spa bath and fireplace, though you don’t need it this time of year. One tip though if you do, because it’s summer you do need to pay a $50 cleaning fee. Other than that highly recommend! The highlight by far was the massage by Jess. OMG the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few. Highly highly recommend, I would even travel back up from Brisbane for one of Jess’ massages, highly recommend!

If you are looking for peace and quiet and to get away from it all in idyllic surroundings this is the place for you - especially if you like accommodation that transforms you back to a bygone era.

The colonial charm and picturesque gardens were magnificent but the only negative was the extremely poor TV reception.

Lucky they have a DVD player in the rooms and while the TV reception was understandable considering the location - high in the hills - for the price we paid you would think they would have better reception.

But overall still highly recommended.

We spent 3 nights here over New Years and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to stay. The room was clean and had plenty of space for us both. We were greeted with champagne and chocolate. Carolyn was extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for us going above and beyond to organise transport for us. The breakfast we had each day was delicious and quickly prepared. The day spa, where we had a massage and facial was incredible. It was relaxing and tailored to our needs, we would thoroughly recommend staying here. We will be back again.

Then this is the place for you! This theme extends from the build of the villas to the furnishings. Someone backed in a container load of Balinese furniture in 1992, plonked it into these Villas and that's all she wrote. It stands to reason therefore that the accommodation feels extremely dated. If you are looking for bright and hamptons-esq, this is definitely not the place for you. Everything could do with a complete do-over at best, or a freshen up at a minimum (both inside and out) - which in fairness is kind of reflective of Mt Tamborine overall. The bathroom is quite a size (is that important in a couples retreat?) however 1985 called and wants its tiles and fittings back. Also, 1985 was probably the last time it had a really good scrub. As mentioned by another poster, I can confirm that the air con unit is indeed wall shakingly NOISY. Wow. The one in our Villa competed with the one in the next Villa making it about as relaxing as trying to sleep on a WW2 airfield. Another poster also mentioned the toilet paper situation; totally agree, bring your own back up roll. On the plus side, the cooked breakfast (included as part of the stay) was very well done and they lady staffing the dining room was lovely (and is the only reason this is an Average review, rather than a Poor one). The owner/manager(?) who was the only other staff member present during our two night stay was efficient but not particularly the model of "mine jovial innkeeper". Didn't worry me but I could see how the lack of "welcoming warmth" could be off putting. Apropos of nothing but in the handy to know category, although I got to drink my welcome glass of sparkling wine, I left my welcome chocolate on the bedside table for later in the stay. A mouse (choosing mouse as opposed to rat) ate most of it before I could, including the cellophane wrapper. So top tips if you choose you spend top dollar staying here; keep perishables well wrapped/sealed or in the (tiny) fridge, BYO loo roll, avoid using the a/c, bring bleach (or an environmentally friendly equivalent) for a good old douse out of the spa bath, if you are planning on using it. My top, top tip however is, find somewhere nice at Montville for your weekend away.

Wasn't what we were expecting for such a price, place is nice but needs a fair bit of work done and not to mention the service needs a bit of a pick me up.

We came here for a romantic getaway and we would have rathered spent $650 elsewhere. Unwelcoming greeting on arrival from the woman at the front desk who finally rocked up and said she couldn't wait to be gone from here at 5pm.

We weren't notified on arrival about the covid measures they had in place where they wont be servicing rooms and we felt like a burden to the manager/owner for asking for the simplest things.

My partner and I were crammed into a small room at breakfast where there was no social distancing with 5 other couples.

Lights flickered in our room and some did not work, wifi was promised in the itinerary but did not work, walls were paper thin allowing us to hear everything going on next door and some wooden louvres were broken.

Staff need to communicate to guests on arrival about daily room expectations and general services.

Upon checking out we weren't even given the opportunity to say how our stay was, just told to leave the keys. The tambourine mountains is a lovely place to visit but we will not be returning to stay at the escarpment retreat.

My wife found the venue, and when we arrived it looked like a perfect place. In reality, It was so disappointing my wife gave it 6/10.

There is a magnificent lounging room with a large fireplace and glass walls with a perfect view. Unfortunately the fire wasn't lite and the room was too cold and I never saw anyone there. Pity.

Internet access was very poor in the room, and telstra data didn't work due to poor signal strength. The TV is the smallest I have seen in years, and the TV remote was missing.

The bathroom looks great with a large shower, but the shower head is too small, the water pressure is poor, and even with 100% hot water it varied from warm to hot.

Due to the very high ceiling, the fireplace ash not cleared out and a noisy air conditioner it was hard to get the temperature right.

The villas share a common wall, which look substantial, but it is not noise proof and we could hear the next door

The bed was a 4 posters with material on top and hanging down the side. Look great until you lie in bed and look up and see dead insects, stains etc above your head.

The place has a lot of potential, but compared to other places at Mt Tambourine it is overpriced and you can stay at far better places for less.

The St Bernard hotel just next door is worth visiting. Good food, good service and a spectacular view.

The reality of the accomodation certainly did not match the photos and we were charged a premium price Mildew and mould in the bathroom and also on ceiling of one bedroom. Broken and dilapidated outdoor furniture. Towels from previous guests were hanging in the wardrobe. The saving grace was the massage.
Would not recommend this accomodation to anyone.

Don't let the pictures fool you, this place is in need of love.
Not the most welcoming experience upon arrival, and god forbid you ask for anything like fresh towels!
The walls are thin, you can hear everything from the villa next door.
The room is dark and smells musty. There was mould on the louvers, cobwebs on windows. The spa was lovely, but again, mould around plug. I doubt they get a good clean through the pumps ever.
The air con could do with a service, it was so loud, even on low, that it was hard to sleep with it on, which in summer, is an isdue as there are no fans and only one small opening window with an insect screen on it.
The grounds are just sad.
The management dont care, are not friendly or welcoming.
Way to expensive for what you get.
Will not return.

My partner and I stayed for 4 nights, and we do not recommend for the following reasons. Villa walls look solid but don’t be fooled….you can hear the neighbours even at normal conversation levels. Every footstep can also be heard. Villas are supposed to be for couples and on arrival you sign a document agreeing to have no more than 2 people in the villa, however our adjoining villa had 4 people at stages and the same drunken LOUD couple kept us awake with yahooing and noise until 2am! We complained to the onsite manager Carolynn who called them but said she could do nothing and that the couple said they were not being loud…she didn’t even come down to hear for herself even though she is on site. Apparently they were getting married and we were supposed to just put up with it. Quote from Carolynn…. “Perhaps you could have been a little more gracious and understanding to the couple getting married”. This is an unacceptable response considering their actions totally wrecked our stay. A wedding isn’t a free pass to being inconsiderate.
Whilst the villa was clean and tidy inside, the outside grounds including lookout were overgrown and there were some maintenance issues. The AC was very loud even on silent mode (which made it hard to sleep) and the kitchen downlights kept flickering. The large feature bathroom window where the spa bath is had cobwebs and mould of several different colours…black, slimy grey and red (never seen red mould before), and the area it looked onto was pretty disgusting and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years.
The breakfast was excellent, and the bed was very comfortable.
To summarise, I think Escarpment is overpriced considering its dated décor (1980s?) and level of maintenance and we do not recommend it…especially for couples looking for a quiet romantic getaway. We will never stay there again.

Stayed in the “the edge” house at the escarpment.. what a total disappointment for accomodation. Do not believe the photo of this house as it must have been taken many years ago.. the house and verandah screens were broken and green with dust and mould.

the verandah furniture ready for the dump with cushions stained and unusable until we requested clean sheets to cover them. The view from the house verandah and lovers lookout was overgrown and not visible.
Felt the need to wash any crockery before use..
While some requests regarding the cleanliness were met it was not done graciously.
The beds were comfortable and the ladies that attended to my massage were fantastic.
Not value for money at all..
