Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We live in Ibra and Al Sharqiya Sands Hotel is probably the best place to have a decent meal in Ibra. The prices are pretty reasonable and the restaurant is good. There are some instances when they don't have e.g. fish available although they have it on their menu. The lamb chops are good although again you have to specify how you want it done, so you don't get burnt lamb chops on your plate. Wine is available and can only to be consumed on the premises. Al Sharqiya Sands also have a swimming pool, the only one in Ibra, newly renovated and so is the garden, but hardly filled with water these days which is a big dissappointment for us locals as we have known better days at this hotel in Summer. I used to have my son's birthday party there each Summer especially due to the swimming pool but haven't done so for the last 3 years. Try Rawazen Restaurant in Alayat, Ibra known by the locals as the 'pink restaurant'. Food is also good, reasonably priced but no wine available.

It is a convenient hotel if you want to spend one or two nights for visiting Ibra market or/and Al Sharqiya Sands (the desert). It is a simple but clean and decent hotel. It has a swimming pool and a small garden around which the rooms are distributed. The breakfast is reasonably good. We also had dinner at the restaurant of the hotel and we found the food not so good although perfectly edible. The staff is very kind and helpful.

Listen, way overpriced for what it is, the food is bad and the bfast even worst. They have a pool that they don't clean and is literally dark green. In Muscat for 60 euros more, we stayed at 4 stars hotel such as the Grand Hyatt. The AC makes a horrible loud noise, the bed sheets and towels are all stained and dirty.
Should I also mention that our tour guide/driver was robbed over night in his room? and the hotel did nothing. They did not call the police, they did not take care of us (3 girls alone). Should I really add anything else? Do not stay here.

The moment you step inside the desert, it just feels amazing.

The serenity of beautiful dunes, vast field of red sands and stillness around you are simply captivating.

Still referred to locally as Wahiba Sands, this is a great place to camp overnight with group of friends.

We went with a few families, camp out, BBQ and talked all night (metaphorically speaking).

The magnificence and majesty of the night sky and the peace of dawn in the dunes makes this stay, one of the desert camps you don’t want to miss!

We haven't even stayed the night yet but the place is truly awful. By the time you read this we will hopefully have found alternative accommodation.

Addendum: we spent the night here. I know you will probably read this thinking optimistically 'it can't be that bad' but really, don't bother. Save yourself all the hassle

1. Room needed severely airing due to oppressive smoke smell
2. Bathroom and plumbing falling to pieces. Water pressure was a gamble
3. General state of disrepair across the whole facility. Pool is completely out of action
4. Poor service, staff don't care
5. Dirty rooms
6. Highly over priced for the quality.

On the plus side, it's licensed and booze is cheap. Needed to get through the night! And there is wifi which I used to write this review.

If you are still reading this and haven't made up your mind, please do the right thing for your sanity and health and avoid!!

We booked a private dune driving experience at Wahiba Sands. We saw nothing but golden sands and blue skies. The temperature was perfect for our toes to sink into the sand. We visited a bedouins tent and took lovely pictures before we set off for some dune driving.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Wahiba Sands. We were the only people in the restaurant but we had a lovely simple meal from a very extensive menu. We chose a biryani, some chicken tikka (really lovely) and some hummus with Arabic bread. Everything seemed fresh, good portions and it was all very enjoyable. Service was good and friendly. Very reasonable prices and we were able to pay with a credit card. The hotel does seem rather run down but we would really recommend this as a great stop for lunch.

The location is good on the way from Nizwa to Al Ain. That said I would drive a long way not to stay there again. The pool was closed for maintenance - but from the look of it, it had been closed for quite a while. Only 1 tissue in each tissue box, 1 towel in each room, only a thin spray for a shower and all electrical outlets required adapters of which we could only find one. The kettle for tea&coffee where falling apart and could only be plugged in with our own adapter. All the food that was cooked reached of curry despite being 'International Cuisine' - Spaghetti Bolognese (for our youngest) did not taste right with curry as the main spice! Lamp chops tasted more like mutton so we ended up sharing a couple of Club Sandwiches. It had a look and feel of a run down hotel. Everything looked like it was falling apart and there were almost no guests.
