We spent only one night at this beautiful location but wish it had been much longer. The cabins were a little rustic but suited us very well, and most importatnly the staff were fantastic in making us feel welcome, and taking the extra step to cover our needs (in our case the vegetarian meals). Less expensive than nearby hotels but...

The Pedacito de Cielo is set in a wonderful remote position overlooking a river. When you arrive from a boat, the wooden hotel built on stilts on the slope looks like a magical Hobbit House. Its so quiet and the views amazing. The rooms are rustic but comfortable with a nice verandah overlooking the river. Apart from all this though,...

Excellent location, the rooms are beautiful, the food very good, the staff very friendly. Plenty of birds to watch, especially early morning. A very good place to relax and simply enjoy the nature around.

We would really recommend this accommodation although the long bumpy road that leads to it. The staff was really friendly, caring and helpful. We especially appreciated the flexibility and the closeness to nature.

This was our favorite place during our two-week trip to Costa Rica. It was beautiful and peaceful and isolated. The staff did a great job with the room and the food and visiting with us. The service was excellent. Getting to see so many birds and other animals up close was just a highlight. I would love to go back.

On my tour through the northern part of Costa Rica, this was my most favourite place I've stayed. The remote location guarantees pure nature. Pura Vida is not just a slogan there but the way of life. Don Marco is such a lovely host, always smiling and helpful. I particularly loved my room with a private terrace overlooking the river....

This eco-lodge is fantastically located in the middle of nature, close to Boca Topada. The lodges are beautifully built on poles and come with a great bathroom and a balcony. The lodge grounds are basically an amazingly maintained park, although the feel and touch of the grounds remain very natural. There are a variety of birds flying around and they...

Boca Tapada…fantastic location, close to the jungle and the San Carlos river. Marco the boss is a very nice person and a really good cook. Miguel the guide and server during lunch time, shared with us all his knowledge about the wild life in this region, he is funny and as well very nice, we really appreciated him. The lodges...

We had such nice stay at pedacito del cielo with my girlfriend and our baby. The huts are so beautiful and cosy and so well integrated in the beautiful environment the place offers. You can just chill out on the terrasse watching monkeys, iguanes n the trees and listening many beautiful exotic birds singing. Marco, the owner is such good...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The translation of Pedacito de Cielo is "Little Piece of Sky." This 300 hectare site situated on the San Carlos River in the San Carlos region is run by Marco Tulio Hidalgo. He is eager to share his little piece of heaven with you. The lodge sits right above the San Carlos River and private bungalows come equipped with a lounging area and a porch overlooking the river. There are two decks that sit high above the Rio San Carlos and offer great views of the river, the setting sun and makes for easy birding. In the evenings, the calls of both the Scarlet and Great Green Macaws are heard, and both are frequently seen. There are gardens, fruit and fruit trees right outside of the individual cabins that attract honeycreepers, orioles, oropendolas and even toucans right to your door. The reserve for the lodge is actually about 2 km from the lodge. At the reserve there are a number of trails that take you through quality rainforest and native species reforestation plantations. There is also a separate lagoon to explore. There are covered decks and trails for you to bird from at the lagoon. The forest hosts hard to find species such as the Dusky Antbird, while the lagoon is home to rare species such as the Rufescent Tiger-Heron. Don Marco can set up a ride to take to you to the reserve, but the birding along the road is great on its own. You are welcome to bird without a guide; however Hugo is the guide available to take you to and through the reserve. Although Hugo does not speak English, he is able to communicate in one form or another, and visitors enjoy his company. In addition to birding and hiking, horseback riding tours and tours of the San Carlos River via kayak are available. Another highlight at Mi Pedacito de Cielo is undoubtedly the delicious cuisine cooked mostly with fruits and vegetables grown right on site. Marco is extremely accommodating and will do just about whatever you need to make your stay enjoyable. ... more   less
