This guesthouse was so fantastic that we stayed another night. The decor of the building is beautiful, the lounge area for the guests is huge , welcoming and so comfortable. The hosts are lovely , easy to chat to and very helpful. The cooked breakfast in the morning was a treat. The gardens are also beautiful . The drive around Rakaia is delightful - especially the drive to Rakaiai Gorge.

St Itas Guesthouse is fabulous. Its a heritage building with beautiful chattels and facilities. Lovely hosts. We stay here this winter season as Methven was fully booked out, its 25-30 minutes from Mt Hutt so an easy drive.

OMG it was like I had the house to myself, a most relaxing luxuriant stay, the owners are fabulous and friendly, the only thing I was missing was some great genuine company. An excellent location to the ski mountain and the breakfast in the mornings exquisite, totally recommended. Thanks, Nicola

After a day's driving I found this lovely guest house by chance. I was welcomed by Sue and was lucky enough to secure a room which looked out on the veranda and pretty garden. The room was inviting and contained every thing I needed.I had a very comfortable sleep and the breakfast was delicious. There is a also a spacious lounge for guest use. A haven. I would have loved to stay longer.

Thank you for your kind words and the time you took to share them with us, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and it was equally as nice to meet your husband last month as he travelled through. I hope you'll both come and visit us again.

I had stayed at St Ita's a couple of times and I went to school in this building so had booked the Rose Room for my birthday and to show my partner the building. We were delayed getting to the accommodation because of a train delay coming from the Coast and we rang ahead to let Sue know. Rather than keeping her up, I told her I knew where the room was and was happy for her to leave the door open (as she did last time I stayed). Sue informed me that she had shifted us out of the Rose Room to accommodate another guest who wished to extend his stay. She had known about this since the day before but, despite the booking system allowing you to nominate specific rooms, had not thought to contact me to ask if it was OK to move us. I would have then explained that I had booked that room for a specific reason. No quarter was given. In fact, Sue stated quite bluntly that we could change our minds about staying if we wanted to. This was at about 9pm and we still had the drive from Christchurch. It didn't leave us much choice. However, Taylors in Ashburton were kindly able to accommodate us so we took up Sue's offer of "changing our minds". We will bypass St Ita's from now on because of this incident. I no longer recommend this business because of the offhand way this was dealt with.

In response to your review I apologise for my actions as it was never my intention to upset or seem off handed to you when you rang. This was the first time I have changed a guests room and I have taken on board the need now to notify the guest if this ever were to occur again. At the time I did not realise the significance of this room and thought a swap to a room with the same facilities would be fine. I do always try to be friendly and helpful and so offered you the option of finding alternative accommodation as I had got the impression the alternative room wasn't an option. As I am still relatively new to the hospitality business I am sure there are many areas I can improve on and I hope that I learn from my mistakes to ensure guests have the best experience I can offer.
