We heard a lot about this place and therefor decided to book 1 night as part of our Norway vacation. The hotel is located in a beautiful quiet location. The room we got was well equipped and really nice. In the early afternoon the owner offered the quest a welcome drink and a small tour of the properties. This was a relaxed and fun little tour, but I recommend the owner to think about the dress code doing this tour. Most guest prepared for a pre paid 3 course dinner had dressed up for the evening. The owner was wearing jeans, running shoes and a sports top. I recommend a shirt and some more formel shoes. We was expecting great food, the main course was ok but very small portion, the starter which was soup was cold and dessert was very simple and hardly anything in the glass. Due to C19 breakfast plate is pre-made and you could tell. No fresh bread and the breakfast plate been standing on the counter waiting for you for hours. Very disappointing. Service level in restaurant was ok but staff not proper trained with knowledge of wine. Also after dinner it would have been nice to have a drink, but there wasn't a natural area to sit down, maybe the bar, but no lights on the table and staff didn't make it natural for you to sit down and actually spend money. So we ended up sitting in our nice room with a glass of wine we had with us in our car.…
This hotel is in a lovely location and serves fabulous food. It is delightfully quirky in some respects and the visitor needs to go with the flow a wee bit. We did and we loved it. If you go the walk up the hill behind the hotel, look out. It is v wet underfoot and the signage is mixed. It is a fine walk though. Allow nearer three hours than two.
We had a wonderful time from arrival to departure. Got upgraded to the master suite (room 17), which has its own little in-built sauna; took a bit of time for the sauna to warm up, but once it did it was well worth it! The room was quiet, with nice views, and the bed was very comfortable. The dinner was excellent and the breakfast didn't leave much to be desired. You feel appreciated as a guest, and the whole experience makes you want to go back. Soon.
Awesome place. Full of history and beautiful nature. Away from the noise of the people but easy to get to. Amazing food. I will come by as often as I can. Pure soul therapy. Great host. A lot of funny stories and a little tour with some stories about the history of the place.
We got a gift certificate for Christmas and was eagerly looking forward to a stay at Haaheim - a romantic getaway with guarantee :) We were show to our beautiful room with our own bath, bathtub, a nice view - and a bottle of sparkling wine! Good start. Later in the evening we went downstairs for our 5-course meal in the restaurant. The food was delicious (5 stars!), the matching wine packet also very good. The waiter was not very knowledgeable, a bit nervous but manage to serve almost everything as it should. Because of a mix up in the kitchen, two of the dishes was served in a different order than planned, but he wasn't able to change the order of the matching wines - so even though the wines were very good on their own, they didn't match the food. And one peculiar thing - we had 5 courses = 5 wine glasses - but not of these were removed during our whole meal (several hours). But this was not something that ruined our dinner at all, just a bit of the charm with a locally owned and operated place like Haaheim. After dinner, we we're enjoying a drink and were lucky enough to listen in on the live concert in the next room! Next morning we had a great breakfast - and bought some locally produced jam in the small shop. All in all - a very nice experience and we will definitively come back for a new visit (either as a couple like this - or with friends or family)…
