Il Bottaccio is an elegant hotel and a superb restaurant created around a seventeenth century water-powered olive mill transformed into an oasis of refinement and serenity. This aristocratic rural retreat stands isolated in the hills of Montignoso, enjoying both the reflection of the Mediterranean Sea and the peace of Apuanian Alps. The village is overlooked by the impressive ruins of the Aghinolfi Castle, masters of this county in 1202. The Hospitality provided by the Bottaccio to its gourmand travellers matches the quality of its cuisine. The freedom of the guests and the respect for their habits and privacy is paramount. Large spaces with open views on the greenery complement the very large private suites, whose name is different for each one of them, as well as different is the character of the atmosphere. These are spacious, individually furnished and cared for in every minute detail. The 18th century pieces dotted in the suites sensually blend with prestigious contemporary furnishing. Il Bottaccio successfully blends the charm of a country mansion with the pleasure of refined catering and the luxury of absolute peace.

Il Bottaccio is a unique experience, a true connection between gastronomy and art. The sommelier, Aldo, brings a wealth of knowledge, enhancing the dining experience with perfectly chosen wines. Nino, both the chef and GM, creates a distinctive and welcoming atmosphere that makes every meal feel like a masterpiece. Irina, the sales manager, is always available, ensuring that any request can be fulfilled, and Monique, the incredible receptionist, adds a special touch, especially for Brazilian guests. The entire team goes above and beyond, making this place feel like a home away from home. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable stay!

The hotel is small (8 rooms) in a beautiful park setting. It is an old olive mill; the water wheel and other parts of the mill are still evident. You are treated like close family by the staff - very warm and welcoming. The staff is surprisingly large for such a.small hotel. The meals are outstanding and the chef is quite ready to tailor the meal to your desires. Artwork abounds, both inside and outside in the park-like setting. The rooms are large and comfortable, with a lot of character. They are all different. Well worth a stop traveling in northern Tuscany.

It was a fantastic time in Italy. We wanted to visit Tuscany, and choosing Il Bottaccio made our vacation First Class!
With the help of Aldo and Irina, it was possible to visit all the best restaurants with magnificent views without any effort.
They care so much about how we will get to the places, helping us with the timetable and suggestions, not pushing anything, but genuinely wanting to benefit from the local point of view. We wouldn't be able to do it without them.
The food in the restaurant was terrific, and the chef Nino Mosca is a lovely, charming gentleman. He cares about every visitor, how comfortable they are, what they would like, and how to make their vacation better.
We want to return to Il Bottaccio as soon as possible and suggest it to everyone who would like to visit Tuscany and enjoy a unique experience and atmosphere of well-being, art, and serenity.
Thank you so much to everyone in Il Bottaccio who help to made our stay a paradise .

I have read all the reviews!
Our experience - the staff were amazing especially Aldo. The food was on the whole delicious but very expensive. Breakfast - too many plates, bowls and the fruit salad was going brown by the third day! Very surprised they did not make it fresh each day. Much better and cheaper at our hotel in Florence the previous week.
Our room (junior suite) looked out to a wall, no terrace and dark. I was very disappointed especially as our friends opposite had been upgraded to a suite with private garden at no extra cost. (My husband could not climb the stairs to our upgrade due to a knee problem).
It was cold so we had to eat some meals round the internal pool which smell of chlorine which was unpleasant.
The pool was not heated so we could not swim. Very disappointed.
And very expensive. I am surprised it was full the following week. There are 8 rooms.

Il Bottaccio, Relais & Châteaux, is a real charm! An extremely exclusive property with few rooms that guarantee an intimate and personalized experience. The accommodations are spacious, comfortable and impeccably decorated, making me feel truly at home throughout my stay. The hotel’s architecture is stunning, and the pool deserves a special highlight — simply wonderful. Every detail of the property fascinated me deeply.

I can’t help but thank the hotel staff, who provided me with an exceptional service. The attention and affection of everyone made my experience even more special. A special thanks to Irina, Monique and Aldo, for making my stay unforgettable.

Il Bottaccio brings all the culture and warmth of Italy to life! Our stay was EXTRAORDINARY! We have traveled the world and this hotel and staff exceeded our wildest dreams! The staff has created a true Italian home for its customers…it is like visiting your Italian family. The rooms are spacious, clean and unique. The gardens are beautiful and inviting. The staff is truly the most amazing people whom you call family by the end of your stay. The service is impeccable, personal and gracious. The food is delicious and inviting and so ITALIAN!! Irina is truly one of the best concierge/managers we have ever encountered in our travels. She helped us from day trips to reservations to tour guides to helping us personally when one of our family fell ill. Nino, the chef/GM, is outstanding not only as the head chef but was always available to us for any need we had. His cooking school was AMAZING! Aldo, Alicia, Guilin and Marcia provided us with top-notch service and always with a smile. Katy and Aurora kept our rooms immaculate. The whole staff has a passion for their hotel and making sure every customer is happy and full and joyful. Starting the mornings in the garden sipping cafe to visiting the seashore to delicious culinary delights for dinner….Il Bottaccio is Italy at its very finest! Everyone should have the honor and privilege of staying at this hotel! We will be back again and again !!

Can't say enough about this beautiful , special Chateau with gorgeous gardens and rooms . Not only are the rooms each unique, special and spacious but the people really make the experience top notch. Irina, Aldo, Nino, Julio, Paulo all went out of their way and over the top to make this a very personal experience that made you feel like you were visiting and staying in their home. You forgot that you were in a hotel. The restaurant should have a Michelin star it was so flavorful with local ingredients and recipes. If you can do the cooking class we highly recommend it as well. Thank you for such an unbelievable warm experience ! Do not hesitate to book here today!!

A wonderful place with a magical energy and great service / attention to detail. We stayed here for 2 nights and also brought our dog along, who had plenty of space to run around in the hotel’s gardens. The rooms are spacious , the food is excellent and the staff are polite and knowledgable. Everyone goes the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable and good service is definitely a priority here. We used the spa which we had to book a day ahead and it was made private for us for the hour we used it. There’s a hammam and a rain shower with effects. No pool/ hot tub but that’s ok because our room had a spectacular bathtub already. The only very small things I’d change is the poor noise insulation in the room (I could hear the neighbours every time they went in/out of their room and the loud church bells woke me up every day at 7am) and the lack of bins in the rooms/ hotel grounds (especially useful when you’re with a dog!). These two things are very small however and didn’t take away from the wonderful experience we had. I felt at home the entire time and would like to thank the lovely staff for their attention and kindness.
