Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I enjoyed my stay at Boathouse Nanuya. The staff members are all very friendly, accommodating, and made my stay very comfortable. The welcome song and Isa Lei farewell song from the staff were also such a nice and personal touch. My one complaint is that the owner of the resort made me very uncomfortable from the moment I arrived, as he treated me like nothing but dollar signs. Although I was one of the only guests at the resort during my stay, he never bothered to introduce himself or learn my name. Yet each time I saw him, he was so pushy for me to spend my money. One morning, I wasn't even finished with my breakfast when he came over asking me what kind of pizza I wanted for lunch. When I told him I wasn't sure if I would be having lunch at the resort (as I planned to explore the island that day), he was very clearly annoyed as he just grunted and walked away without another word. Another time he did this same thing was when I returned from seeing the Sawa-i-Lau Caves with some friends I met. He very abruptly approached me and asked why I went to the caves with them instead of with the resort. When I told him it was because the resort was going to charge me for 2 people to take me to the caves (as they have a 2-person minimum for this excursion), he once again said nothing, grunted, and just rolled off in his golf cart. I felt obliged to leave this review so that other travelers have a heads up of the way this owner clearly has no problem treating his guests.

Pros
Not more than 100m to the blue lagoon which has a lovely beach and clear blue water with some snorkelling opportunities.
Free kayaks, SUP and snorkelling gear.

Cons
We opted to stay in the budget part of the hotel, room was fair, but the window view was onto hotel back of service area. Compared to the other price comparable accommodation we stayed at during our yasawa trip (barefoot in a dorm  and mantaray bay in jungle bure) I would not recommend boathouse nanuya budget accommodation.
No actually beach to enjoy right in front of the hotel ( but blue lagoon wasn't far)
Out of the 3 places we stayed on the yasawas we found the food could be improved, also there were different menus depending on where you were staying in their hotel.
Breakfast on offer was rather poor

Firstly, the staff are awesome. Let’s get that out the way.

The boathouse is connected to another resort; the Nanuya. Despite both being owned by the same people. Honestly, you feel inferior and are treated as so. Forced to eat off a ‘meal plan’ while the others aren’t. Feels similar to when you buy a Groupon deal for a restaurant.

Such a shame because the staff are wonderful.

We stayed at Boat Nanuya for two nights as part of our package. Despite the friendly staff, especially Luke, we were underwhelmed. For the price we paid for our meal package, we felt there was not enough options available, especially for breakfast where there was only cereal, toast and fruit. We had much better choice in the other resorts whilst still paying the same amount or even less. Also, when informing someone that there were bed bugs in my bed, clearly shown by the amount of bites on my back I was just thanked for letting them know. After visiting a few other resorts which we loved, it was a shame.

Response from Akuila Kula, General Manager at Boathouse Nanuya
Responded 19 Feb 2020
Bula Vinaka Polly, Thank you for your review, it would be remiss of us not to respond. Firstly, the breakfast which is INCLUDED in the room tariff is specifically a Tropical Breakfast with fruit as the primary element, most grown in our own plantation. Those who require a more substantial meal ( eggs, bacon etc), are free to purchase these extras at a reasonable cost. We generally find given the climate that the Tropical Breakfast suffices for most and so we are disappointed you didn’t find it to your satisfaction. Regarding the bed bug issue, we have checked with our room service staff and following your advice regarding the presence of bed bugs, a full check of the dorm was done. Only one bug was located throughout the entire dorm and this was on your bed. We should also highlight that ALL beds are checked and sprayed before check in and this is adhered to very strictly. The dorm was in fact unused for a week prior to your arrival and no other guests had stayed there, which makes it even more confusing. Bed bugs are NOT restricted to any resort – they are generally brought in by guests in clothing or luggage which is another reason to monitor and spray on all occasions. We also find it interesting that, upon departure, you remarked to our front of office staff, how much you had enjoyed your stay. Boathouse Nanuya strives at all times to provide a level of accommodation commensurate with its Budget style – air conditioning, private facilities etc and regrets the stay did not meet your expectations. Should you return to the Yasawa Islands, we would be only too happy to again welcome you into our island home. Vinaka.

This place is knowingly running a scam based on false advertising. Their website advertises a lot of different ways to get there, which do not actually exist every day or at all during some times the year. But they won’t tell you this unless YOU ask THEM over several weeks worth of emails. They take 7 days to even reply to your first email— with incomplete information— so you have to keep asking the same question over multiple emails before they give you enough information for you to figure out it won’t actually be possible for you to get to their island. The scam part is they wait to reveal the key information until AFTER your free cancellation period has passed, so they can keep your cancellation fee!

This means if every guest doesn't persist in proactively asking them how to get there, you could end up stranded on your check-in day with no way to get there, no place booked to sleep that night, AND no refund!

After 1 month of emailing, they never apologized for the incorrect information on their website and still have not corrected it or even said they will correct it. So they KNOW they are false advertising and creating a situation that could leave people stranded, and they’re happy to keep doing it so they can keep your cancellation fee.

We stayed at Nanuya Resort and spent many evening and afternoons at the Boathouse. The shop was a bonus for us as we were able to buy snacks, fresh baking and other goodies as we needed. We watched the NZ play Ireland and we met lots of 'yatchies' who came ashore for an evening drink, lovely relaxed and fun environment. Thanks Team

I stayed at Boathouse with 2 of my friends and we stayed in the Dorm. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We were allowed access to the sister resort next door to eat and use their facilities. The food was top notch and they catered well for my gluten free dietary requirements. The staff were friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We were slightly worried after seeing some of the recent reviews of this place but honestly can’t recommend it enough it has been one of our favourite places to stay during our time in Fiji.

Warm friendly staff who always made us feel welcome. Room was ok, clean and tidy. Meal plan was ok but could probably be improved on a bit although the food did seem to be of the same quality as the sister resort right next door. Overall a good stay, the staff make the place.

Lovely scenic resort with fantastic facilities in the dorms. Staff were extremely and genuinely friendly and always wanted to help. Food was lovely with a buffet and hot breakfast, 2 course lunch and 3 course dinner. Couldn’t recommend more.

We took two excursions with Mike and Sala. One to the cave and a guided snorkeling trip. Wonderful experience. They were so friendly and helpful. The cave is a must see in Fiji. Mike dove with us to show us special sites underwater, including a giant clam. He also spearfished, which is exciting to watch. The fish and reef farm were spectacular. We highly recommend them.

I red today your September answer. I can assure you that bread and butter in photo were our appetizer: it was written on menu and i asked to your waiter. Initially he said that it was not possible, then he talked to the chef and finally he confirmed us that it was the appetizer. We were indignant and i told him to report it to direction (it shows that i wanted to tell you our disappointment, but nobody asked us anything). You contradicted me in your public answer, and it’s ok, but it confirms your arrogance. Btw, meals are secondary problems! In the rooms only a little windows, no light and no air recirculation, only noise from a mechanical workshop downstairs. No windows in the bathroom. We asked to your office to be picked up to a near island. The officer asked us a price. Nobody told us that the price you requested was only one-way, and only when we went on the boat to come back the skipper told us that we had to pay the return price. What about our return trip if we finished money? Would you let us in that desert island, expecting we could come back by swimming? If you organize a tour, you HAVE to specify the complete price, so i can choose to buy the tour or not. Differently, you want only to trick me. About mosquitos, there was a problem in translation: i wrote that your waiter were pressing more than mosquitos asking us money. We travelled all over the world: asia, south and north america, europe. We know that every nation has its own mores. We know that a Fiji holiday can’t be cheap, and that it’s very expensive to maintain your structure. The problem is that our stay in your resort was an harassing request of money from you, and we visited many resorts in other Yasawa island: nowhere our stay was cheap, but nowhere we had the continue sensation to be considered only plucking chicken by the resorts...
