Hotel's Favourite
Fabulous resort for a vacation. We were a three generation family of six and had the best holiday ever. We were welcomed island style with song on our arrival. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay thoroughly enjoyable for the entire time. Nothing was too much trouble. Our stay came with a compulsory meal plan. Breakfast was buffet style - homemade breads, hard boiled eggs, bacon or sausages, fresh fruit, porridge and cereals. Juice, tea and coffee. Lunch was a delicious cooked meal and dinner was a three course meal consisting of a different soup every day and a choice of two mains plus dessert. The food was island style and beautifully presented. Also freshly made cake was served at 4pm for afternoon tea everyday. We certainly didn’t go hungry. Our Ocean View bure was lovely and clean and came with a king size bed plus optional single bed; outdoor shower for rinsing off; indoor open air shower with shampoo, conditioner and body wash all supplied; plenty of hot water; verandah with outdoor seating to enjoy the view and a hammock to relax in. Towels and swimming towels all supplied. There were daily activities to enjoy - some free and some charged for. Free use of gear for snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking all provided. The sea was crystal clear and lovely and warm to swim in, with the coral reef accessible from the beach. The tropical gardens are beautiful and well maintained. A very relaxing and enjoyable time was had by all of us. We were all very well taken care of and the staff made us all feel special. A huge heart felt thank you to all. Vinaka❣️

This place is paradise! Our family of 4 (adults and 2 teens) stayed for a week and we did not want to leave. The staff are so friendly, attentive and helpful. There was really no need we had that was not met. The food was great (no problem with our pescatarian and vegetarian needs). We had adjoining beachfront studios which were comfortable, clean and had nice outdoor seating although we mostly relaxed at the main lodge where we read or played board games. Snorkeling from the beach was great some days but it was rainy season so a bit murky other days. Our best snorkeling was found on several boat trips which were absolutely amazing! The cave trip was also very cool and being closer to it than other resorts, we got there first and had the caves to ourselves. When we exited, several boatfuls arrived—it would have been less cool to be in the cave with a crowd so we felt really lucky to be able to get there first thing. I also really appreciated that there were plenty of paddle boards and kayaks available to use. Maria, in the spa, gave us blissful treatments one rainy afternoon! We could really not have had a more relaxing, beautiful vacation. Thanks to everyone at Oarsman's!

We booked this hotel with absolute reassurance that it scored 5/5 on trip advisor, wow, this must be good we thought. We left with a real bag of mixed feelings. We haven’t written this review until experiencing other resorts., to compare and make sure we feel ‘justified’ in what we’re saying here. It’s only fair we thought. Here goes, please read if you’re interested in booking this because there’s things that we wished we’d known or found were not explained. Good points: * Staff are sensational, but as we’ve realised all Fijian’s are. There smiles, happiness and warm attitudes make you feel loved. * The spa, wow, Louisa is sensational. I’ve never in my life had massages (plural) like it- I couldn’t get enough, and very reasonably priced. * Very comfy bed * Board games are available- monopoly, scrabble etc * There are some free activities such as snorkelling, kayak, paddle boarding ect * Bad points * upon check in, it felt like we had arrived at a base camp for a scout group. Everyone was addressed en mass, no personalisation at all- this will happen at this time etc. Breakfast is served 7-9am, lunch 12.30-2 and dinner 7-9pm. With exception of a choice of chicken or fish at dinner, you get what you are given. End of. No choices, no menu. * At no point was it explained when booking or on arrival that you have to buy a food ‘plan’ at a cost of £90 a day. Fine (we have to eat) but why is this not communicated anywhere? * The air con isn’t great, set at 17 degrees it does take the edge off with a ceiling fan assisting, but by no means is it cold. The illuminated ‘17 degrees’ on the unit is so bright at night that it’s like having a lamp on in the bure all night. * We could never regulate the shower, either scolding or freezing. * Room service is daily. However the bathroom sink area was never cleaned. Strange. * Not necessarily bad, but just to know, there’s no TV at all, anywhere. No hairdryers or Wi-Fi beyond the reception area. Some may find this nice, but if you need to work, this isn’t for you:, * There is zero nightlife here. Not that I expected a party but at least some kind of entertainment/ inclusion. It felt like a regimented routine where food was served and then very little else to do. Everyone just left for bed at 8.30/9pm. If the hard wooden seats didn’t make your bum move, the lack of entertainment certainly did. * No water in rooms or tea/ coffee facilities * There are only 3 double sun loungers with padded beds at reception area. Everyone seems to scramble for these. We understood why after the experiencing the other few hard sun loungers. We had an ocean view bure, I’m glad we didn’t spend more on an ocean front bure because there’s nothing in it. The Bures are all positioned in a ‘Dovetail’ like network. So everyone is basically nearly on the beach. There’s 7 step s between ocean view bures and ocean front. I paced it. We left Oarsman’s Bay and checked in at The Sheraton, Tokiriki Bay. Which cost less money and is a 4 star hotel. We’re really struggling to understand why this rates so high when there’s cheaper options available wit so so much more to offer! I was going to say I’d recommend this to young back packers as there’s a Dormitory but with the added food plan I don’t think it’s cost effective, coupled with a complete lack of atmosphere. I’m so sorry, but it’s true. I’m not sure what audience the resort is trying to target , it seems too expensive/ lack of stuff going on for a back packer and not enough luxury for a non backer. It’s the furthest drop off point from Nadi, 4 hours on a ferry and we left not sure it was worth it. Good/ bad weather or not. As I said I didn’t write this until experiencing other resorts. We’re now in a Sheraton, for less money, with exceptional air con, bath robes, tv, I could go on. We feel like we’ve finally arrived on holiday. We’re just failing to understand how Oarsman’s Bay cost us more for so so much less in every way. We wouldn’t recommend.

Oarsman Bay The staff at the resort were welcoming and friendly, creating a cozy atmosphere. The resort hosted community games and gatherings that were free and enjoyable. The meals were delicious. However, I would recommend a portable ice tray to keep in your room fridge as the water is warm. The rooms have AC but if you can bring a small handheld fan, you'll have a Perfect experience as it was extremely hot in the common areas.

We have had the best 5 days, 4 nights. Good food. Great staff. Ana, Una, Lucy, Ben, Peti & many others. The staff were fantastic. Can’t rate them enough. Friendly, hospitable, professional yet very down to earth. They’re just good genuine people which I loved. We made use of the spa while there as well. Had a massage multiple times during our stay and a facial. Luisa was fantastic. Great accomm. Had a bar fridge, aircon & fan in the beachfront studio I booked. Couldn’t fault the place. They also organised our ferry booking for us on request prior to our arrival. I’m already planning a trip back to bring some mates. Loved it at Oarsmans Bay Lodge. Vinaka

We had 6 glorious nights at Oarsman Bay and loved it. We travelled as a family of 4 with 2 older teenagers- above the allowed age as this is an adults only resort. The resort is set on a beautiful beach/lagoon with the most turquoise water we have seen, which is surrounded by a great snorkeling reef- and the hidden underwater sculpture that was recently installed. We had an interconnecting Bure which had a/c and a fan and was set right by the beach. It was clean, beautifully appointed and just what we wanted. The food is amazing! All the veggies are grown on the island and the variety of food was great, especially as this island is a 4 hr ferry away from the mainland with no shops. It is very quiet and chilled as there are only 13 bures plus a dorm area with 8 beds. The wifi around the eating area was good. We were here to connect as a family and with Fiji so wifi was not our priority, but it was more than enough for us. Each day the resort offers free and paid activities- and we did nearly all of them. Snorkeling, the amazing cave trip, fishing, coconut bowling, a medicine plant walk, fish feeding and a super enjoyable village visit. Pete, Lucy and Ben were great guides. They were well designed trips - most last 1-2 couple of hours and go at a great cruisey pace so you can take it all in. There is also a spa - Louisa give the best massages. The staff are awesome. They were so kind to our family - Lucy in hospitality, Lucy from housecleaning, Mere in the office who helped us a lot , Una, Matthew, Pete who took us on many trips , Ben who helped me in the cave, Visili, Dean the owner ….The list goes on and they are all wonderful. If you want a super relaxing place to stay that is small, employs local people, is gentle on the environment and a place with incredible nature, culture and people, this is it. Sota tale Oarsman!

Wow, what an incredible experience we had at Oarsmans Bay! This was my first time in Fiji and I travelled with my five closest friends. We were looking to get away from the typical touristy 'party' atmosphere that some of the smaller islands closer to the mainland (Nandi) have. The Oarsmans Bay Lodge was absolutely perfect for this! With the classic white sandy beach, clear aquamarine water and the reef right off the beach- perfect for swimming and snorkelling, we had a lovely time. It wasn't buzzing with people- the perfect atmosphere for relaxing. The resort provides free stand-up paddle boards, kayaks and snorkelling equipment which was much appreciated. They also run regular tours to the Sawa-i-Lau Caves which are AMAZING, and to the nearby villages where most of the staff members live. The staff were so friendly that they felt like family, Lucy really stood out to me- and they genuinely cared about each guest, welcoming us all with a beautiful song. One of my friends wasn't feeling well during our vacation and the staff were so kind and considerate, they made her special meals, provided medication and even offered to take her to see the doctor– we felt completely safe and well looked after. We stayed in the dorm room which has air-conditioning and is clean and well-maintained. Each dorm has a privacy wall on each side which would be useful if travelling by yourself and wanting some solitude. it was well worth every dollar spent. tucked away The food was always fresh, a cross between nice home cooking and restaurant quality. We appreciated that most of the dishes made use of local fruits and I loved the fresh Fijian fish meals. The spa was also a hidden gem! I had the best massage of my life from Louisa who was lovely and took her time to make sure it was a special experience. I loved the delicate coconut oil that she used which softened my skin. Overall, we absolutely loved this small resort, we stayed for a total of 5 days and it was paradise. Whether you want to just relax on the island or fill your days with fun activities this authentic hidden gem has it all. We will be back xx Ava Veres

It costs a lot to get here, but I never got tired of the view out front! Wow, that is what you expect when talking about Fiji! The resort itself is great, and the staff are pretty hospitable, especially once they get to know you a bit. Our bure was very rustic/comfy. Good bed, a/c and fan could have worked better, but there was a ton of fully shuttered windows, and usually a breeze at night. I can appreciate the need for a mandatory meal plan in such a remote location, but felt a little disappointed in the "fish or chicken" choices. I would have killed for a whole grilled fish! Portions for the fish dishes were generally small, and every fish dish was covered with a "sauce", so you could never really taste "fish". Over all, the fish was my biggest let down, but the location is so beautiful, you could let it pass.

Bula Ron, We thank you for choosing to come to the far north of the Yasawa group and Oarsman’s Bay Lodge and also thank you for being great guests. Our location is quite special and is the main highlight for all our guests and as you were in our Ocean-view Bure, this as you mentioned still allowed you to view the beautiful Nalova Bay. Ron, the entire team was amazed by the way you assisted us in moving a 10-foot coconut tree to the front of one of our Beachfront Bure and even though it was your holiday you took the time to assist on other occasions if you could. So from us “Vina Du Riki.” We understand that your dining experience could have been better, and your feedback has been super helpful for our Chef and his team to add to their menu selection. Ron, we wish you both a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to Oarsman's Bay Lodge. Vina Du Riki and Much Love from the OBL team.
