The Shells Resort and Spa Phu Quoc is celebrated for its serene setting, marked by lush gardens and spacious rooms with expansive balconies, though it could benefit from better outdoor lighting. Its tranquil location is conveniently close to the town and airport, but opinions on value are divided, with some guests finding it overpriced. While rooms are generally roomy and sometimes cozy, maintenance issues have been a concern. The service and amenities also receive mixed feedback, with the spa and beach often appreciated despite some service inconsistencies. Cleanliness is typically well-regarded, although some guests have pointed out occasional lapses.

The Shells Resort & Spa is seriously lacking maintenance!
Rated 5 Star in Australia it’s probably a 3 star resort. If it didn’t have amazing views and a great pool the property wouldn’t survive.

Please realise the photos are over 10 years old being marketed.

Staff and server’s was professional for 99%. Which was one of our highlights of our stay, the views looking out to the ocean were superb!

It will be interesting to see the resort at a fuller capacity with only one pool available. For its age the resort should be rated at 3 Stars.

Our smoke detectors in our room didn’t seem to be working.

No carbon monoxide detectors in rooms.

No wheel chair access.

Stairs are an issue getting to the restaurant with my bad hip.

Floors and bath tubs could use a good polish to remove stains.

No bed side tables.

Power points well worn chargers wouldn’t stay plugged in.

No USB charging ports.

Television reception is terrible no Netflix or internet connection.

Wi-Fi has no password, I’m sure internet hackers would have a ball downloading all of your personal information.

The bottles of water supplied must be the smallest you can buy.

I experienced a waiter coughing over the breakfast buffet which totally turned us off our breakfast.

The resort is only 10 years old built in 2014, it’s lacking some major maintenance. I’m assuming it was left to run down dilapidated over Covid and probably will never recover.

Compared to old photos half the beach is filled in with rocks now with a collapsed retaining wall.

Beach seems to have a lot of pollution floating around.

Food and drinks prices are extremely over priced.

To Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Tran Minh Chi of Tran Thai Group, I would highly recommend sending senior management staff out to The Shells Resort & Spa urgently to see first hand what maintenance is required.

The shells is quite secluded which is a good and a bad thing. Good as it’s so peaceful and relaxing but bad as there is nowhere to buy or eat within walking distance (we did try to walk to town but it’s over an hour walk). To get get some variety and shops it’s a trip into town via a grab taxi which ranges between VND100k to 150k each way. The rooms are clean and tidy . When we checked in neither our phone or fridge were working and the tiling was falling off the sink area. We called and all addressed within 30 mins. Everyday housekeeping would forget our towels and so we had called and new ones appeared within 15 mins (aside from last day when it took over 3 hours and a couple of reminder). The open shower/toilet /wardrobe area in the room is a little weird and means early morning light streams through the toilet window and from behind the blinds, in addition little privacy. The bed was comfortable and room temp good and very quiet. Pool and beach area nice. We were there for New Year’s Eve and the hotel put on a good show and an amazing selection of food. Breakfast was always a disaster. We went at varying time during our stay and they always ran out of glasses, cups and plates. There was always a long queue for eggs, the coffee isn’t good and the tea very weak. Also fresh bread was hit and miss and the toaster didn’t even warm the bread let alone toast it. The hotel during our stay never stocked the local beer and as we don’t like tiger or Heineken and Saigon red is too heavy we didn’t really use the services, that said when we did it took forever. The pizza we did have once wasn’t good. Service at the pool bar was disorganised. Occasionally someone is there but there are no drinks in the fridge and they don’t seem able to make drinks and can’t print off the bill, as such every staff member had to go through to the main bar for the order and receipt, meant took c20 mins to get a drink each time and many people gave up waiting. We booked a massage one day and then informed double booked and so our appointment cancelled which wasn’t great. Then we booked for 4pm on the 4th and when we went told we hadn’t made an appointment when we had!! There is a gym but no machines (only one bike) and a poor selection of weights and so not really a gym. Also often wasn’t cleaned as the same monster drink can sat on the floor for 4 days. Also no water or towels provided at the gym. Overall and ok stay but they need to overhaul their F&B offering and ensure sufficient plates/cups/glasses for breakfast, staffing is obviously an issue and they need a better service at bar and gym.

Phuc bellman and Thanh Yen so friendly and helpful.

Everyone working here is so kind. The locator of the grap position helped me communicate directly with the captain. We stayed for four days without any inconvenience, cleaned everything we needed, and brought towels and water quickly if needed. If you want to eat at the hostel at night, I recommend you buy it in advance, and room service is delicious with beef burger and steak. Great recommendation. And the flowers inside the resort are so beautiful. Good to take pictures:) The grass was clean and there were not many people. Rate check-out was free, and you kept your luggage on the day you got in. Service is best ♥︎

My room number is 410.

Nestled at the end of a long driveway the shells resort is a fairly secluded resort garden rooms are spacious and clean ( a few maintenance issues but sorted fairly quickly)

It has its own private beach that can’t be accessed other than from the hotel so no hawkers harassing you!

The food and beverage service at the hotel is more
Miss than hit! No drinks at the swim up
Pool bar ! Even f a staff member is in attendance he has to go to main bar to get the drinks ! A really odd setup!

Pool side or sunbathing at the beach has plenty of lounges although weather clean towels are available or not is a lottery !

Booking the Spa seems to be a massive issue too! Ask at reception they say they will book with spa then spa seems to double book! This happened twice so had massages in town not as relaxing but half the price at least anyway

Reception can easily order taxis to town but they change price daily between 100/150000
So be prepared to negotiate on days they ask for more we ucually agreed no more
Than120,000 vnd

Towels in room also often not replaced when rooms serviced phone fridge issues and generally as seens to be a issue in PhuQouc staffing levels seem
Too low meaning breakfast was random if there was cups/ glasses and bowls people used anything to get a drink!
All of the above issues are slightly annoying as this place would be a real gem if they could just be a little more organized.

New Year’s Eve dinner/ show was a fine example they laid on a free meal and show to all guests but didn’t really communicate it was included in the. Room price so about only 50% of quests turned up then they said it started food at 7 but some guest started on the food as it was being laid out about 610pm. So then everyone started to leave about 9 pm and only a few stayed. The hotel really tried but i felt disappointed for them as they put on music shows and some games for the kids with prizes!

If the restaurant was this organised at breakfast maybe we would have tried to have a dinner here

Shells Resort and Spa is a ideal place to call home base during your stay on Phu Quoc Island.
Stayed: 8-14 March 2024 (Spring)

location: 25 minutes from Airport
and only 7 minutes from main down town.

Grab transfer to town 60,000 VND
scooter hire
( 1/2 day) 100,000VND
(Full Day ) 200,000 VND

Accommodation:
Resort has a mix of hotel oceanview rooms and bungalows (garden and pool), however pool bungalows pools are under renovations and it doesn’t look like it will be completed in the near future.
Bungalow are large and spacious.
you will need to check if fridges are in rooms and air con is working.these rooms are very cosy and great outdoor lounge area to unwind.

Hotel oceanview rooms are awesome with sweeping view of the large pool and the Gulf of Thailand. All room have Kingsize beds , seperate shower, toilet and bathroom tub in main room . The water pressure is very low for the bath tub and limited hot water.
outside deck lounges of your room is a great place to chill in the afternoon and view the picturesque sunsets over a cold drink.
currently, the hotel is in the process of renovating all these rooms.

Food;
Daily breakfast included: probably the best at any hotel i’ve stayed at.
A great mix of everything. 10/10

Lunch/Dinner: Ate once at hotel for dinner then ate out all other times. menu is limited in offers, needs improvement.

If you are looking for a place with multiple Bars, adult Nightlife,Restaurants and Cafes. Shells Resort is not your place.

Relaxation:
Pool deck has a large number of sun lounges and day beds to enjoy a day of swimming or tanning.
pool bar is very customer friendly and easy to assist. Great place to spend the afternoon during happy hour.

Overall, A great Resort for couples or couples with young child to enjoy. I don’t think it’s suited for teenagers as they will get bored very quick. (Not enough water activities or excitement for them).
If you are looking very much a stress free holiday location that will meet your needs for R&R.
Shells Resort & Spa is number 1.

Our experience at the resort left much to be desired, and unfortunately, we won’t be returning for several reasons. 1. upon entering our room, we were greeted by unpleasant durian odors emanating from the fridge and throughout the room, making our stay uncomfortable. Despite requesting a room change, we were asked to wait for them to address the issue, with no checking on us after addressing issues.

2. despite clearly indicating our need for housekeeping by placing the “make up room” sign and informing the receptionist before leaving, our room remained untouched upon our return. It took multiple reminders to finally have our room serviced, which occurred after an unacceptable delay of 3 hours.

3. Security at the resort was also a concern, as we discovered our rented motorcycle tampered with overnight, with two of its mirrors missing and one replaced with a different one. This lack of security measures is deeply troubling and significantly detracted from our overall experience.

4. we were disappointed by the unfriendly demeanor of the guest relations staff towards Vietnamese guests, which made us feel unwelcome and undervalued as patrons.

Overall, these issues greatly impacted our stay, and we cannot recommend the resort to others until these issues are adequately addressed. It’s evident that the resort’s lack of attention to these crucial matters has resulted in a decline in guests, and unless significant improvements are made, we won’t be returning.

Xin Chào Phong! First and foremost, please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We take the security of our guests' property very seriously, and I regret to hear about the issue with the motorcycle mirror. This incident is indeed the first of its kind within our premises. As our parking area is exclusively for the use of our guests, we believe this may have been a misunderstanding. Upon reviewing the security footage, we found that the lighting conditions did not allow us to clearly ascertain whether your motorcycle had both mirrors intact upon arrival. We have made every effort to resolve the situation promptly and have compensated for the cost of replacing the mirror. We understand that this does not undo the inconvenience caused, but we hope it demonstrates our commitment to your satisfaction. Our team has always been our strength, as reflected in the positive reviews from many of our guests. We invite you to revisit these testimonials to reaffirm the trust you've placed in us. Please rest assured that we are reviewing our security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us maintain the high standards of service our guests expect and deserve. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. We value your patronage and look forward to the opportunity to serve you better in the future. Warm regards, Phuong Dang - FOM

Everything here is quite good, the room is very spacious and the space is very airy. One thing I especially love here is that the beach is always clean of trash, during our stay here every morning I lay on the beach lounger to sunbathe but I really did not see a single piece of trash on this beach. The staff here is great, the receptionists like Yen, Hong, Tram are very responsive and smart. And the bellmen are always very productive to support me: Quan, Gian

The first time I came to Phu Quoc and I booked a place at this resort, everything made me feel very satisfied 😁 the room is quite spacious, there is an electric car service to pick me up at all times which makes me feel very convenient. Here they also have a policy of picking up guests from the airport to the resort for free and vice versa, this has helped me save a lot of money on transportation. The staff here is professional beyond dispute, the receptionists here are very cute, I was also guided by them where to go and what time to take beautiful pictures, I am very happy about that, repect Yen, Hoa, Hong 😍❤️❤️❤️

We went to this resort to spend 4 days. We took an apartment with sea views. Just as we arrived, Phat greeted us, he is a lovely person, and Lien was also with him, she was just as attentive and friendly. We visited the bungalows, which were beautiful, but we wanted to see the sea and the sunset, so we opted for views of the sea and the sunset. Pool, everything was so clean and cared for. I read a lot of nonsense on Google from some people, who I think were not going on vacation, they were going to criticize any silly detail, the truth is the main thing was great, in a hotel we have to look at the cleanliness, the friendliness, the service and in our opinion it was perfect . For €90 per night, which is very expensive there and for us it is very correct, I think it is fantastic. Those who criticize details of the breakfast think it is unfair, since the breakfast has local options but there were also Western and international options. We had Pham in the restaurant who was super attentive and tried everything so that we had a good evening. The cocktails were fabulous made with such delicacy and love. I also want to recommend a taxi that gave us a tour of the island that was a beautiful experience, his name is Sang and Phat at the reception who could give you the contact information. Apart from everything about the hotel, I would also like to talk about the people of the island and Vietnam in general, you are authentic people who have a big heart and are very attentive and with a lot of sensitivity and attention to details and this is being lost in many places . Keep it, it's wonderful.
We are back from this trip and it will be the first of many to come.
Thank you to the staff of The Shells, Sang and the entire people of Phu Quoc for making our stay so unforgettable.
