Nestled in a scenic, tranquil spot, Cape Panwa Hotel is celebrated for its elegant Thai atmosphere and impeccably clean environs, although some guests feel the charm is slightly marred by signs of age. While the private beach, diverse dining options, and spa are highlights, a few reviewers suggest these amenities could benefit from a refresh. Room experiences vary, with stunning vistas from spacious areas on one end, and dated decor needing updates on the other. Despite the isolated location, the hotel's shuttle service is appreciated. However, the steep prices, particularly for drinks and extras, have caused some guests to question the value. The staff's warmth and attentiveness are frequently commended, although occasional service lapses are noted.

We are delighted) the journey from the airport took 1 hour. We arrived at the hotel around 10:00, we were immediately offered a tasty, cool drink and within 15 minutes (without a deposit) we were checked in, we did not have to wait until 14:00, which is very important, considering flight at 9 o'clock. They offered an upgrade for a very good price to a luxury room on the 3rd floor with a beautiful view of the pool and the sea)) the room is huge, has everything you need, starting with a mega comfortable and comfortable bed, snow-white linen, refrigerator, slippers/slides for the beach, bathrobe, beach bag, soap, etc., a bottle of water for everyone, tea, sugar (replenished daily) the area is surrounded by greenery, many birds, butterflies, geckos, we saw a baby crow on the beach))
Breakfast 10 out of 10, eggs in any design, sausages, bacon, sausages, cheeses, a large selection of baked goods including our own, toppings, fruits, vegetables, muesli, dried fruits, yogurts, puddings, juices, fresh coffee, coffee and much more, that we haven’t tried, who writes that it’s scanty or boring, I’d like to ask, what do you eat at home?? You can have lunch and dinner in the restaurants on site, there are 7 of them. Tasty, but a little expensive, for a main course and dessert, for two without drinks ~1000-1500 baht, cappuccino 180 baht.
The Cape Panwa hotel runs a free bus between the hotel and its sister hotel The Cape Kanatray Bay, which is located on the promenade, where you can walk and eat in a cafe, there are plenty of them. There is also a 7eleven supermarket, next to an exchange office, the exchange rate is approximately the same everywhere. In the evening, shopkeepers come from where you can inexpensively buy fruit or local Thai food. I would especially like to highlight the Blue wave cafe, very tasty and homely, dinner/lunch/drink -600-700 b. We chose only him. What are its owners and the waiter worth)
The sea is beautiful, warm, clean, sandy. (I advise you to take karalkas, because we saw sea urchins). The sand is white, which blinds the eyes. At high tide, the sea brings leaves and small debris, but every morning the hotel staff cleans everything up) a large number of soft sun loungers with umbrellas, there is enough for everyone and there will still be left. There is no need to borrow or invent anything else. The tide schedule is in the room. On average, you can swim every day from 8-9 to 14-15. The road to the sea is along steps, but there is also a funicular.
All hotel staff are very friendly and always ready to help. You are welcome there!) We definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a well run hotel, it's quite big but never felt crowded, whether in any of the restaurants, by the pool or on the private beach where there are more than enough sunbeds.

Room: we were in U412 which was a little walk away from the pool and restaurants, so might not suit guests with mobility problems. It had a good view of the setting sun and was always nicey cleaned. There was a problem with a leaking air-con unit but this was fixed after couple of days. Rooms are available from 15:00, so if you're an early arrival be sure to pack swimming stuff so that you can use the other facilities until your room is ready.

Pool: plenty of sunbeds and clean towels were provided. We were always down early after breakfast and saw the pool being thoroughly cleaned each morning. My only minor gripe of our two weeks at Cape Panwa was the mess created by the may Mynah Birds, and my constructive recommendation would be for an additional member of staff to be made available to clean up the beds each morning.

Beach: private beach at the bottom of the hill which can be accessed on foot or via the funicular railway that runs all day.

Food: We ate mainly in the Cafe Andaman buffet, but also sampled the Top Of The Reef and Panwa House restaurants; we were disappointed with the service at Panda House when our booked table was given to another couple minutes before we arrived, and we offered a table crawling with ants before eventually choosing to eat inside. We loved Cafe Andaman, where the chef and his team as well as the waiting staff were all wonderful. Cafe Andaman is a buffet and there is always a weekly menu with that include Italian, Thai and Indian speciality nights. All food was very good, with selection of deserts and fruit at each meal. Live band playing covers every evening at Andaman Cafe were very good.

Location: the hotel is perched on top of the hotel, with a short but steep walk down to the little village. Alternatively the hotel runs a shuttle bus to & from the town every 10 m minutes or so. Plenty of places to get a drink or eat in the village, and also the 4th restaurant available to Cape Panwa residents - Uncle Nan's, although we were disappointed in the time taken to be served. Lots of options for a massage in the village or walking down the hill; we visited DIVA - first one you walk past at the top of the hill - which I can heartily recommend. The village waterfront has a night market which comprises almost all aspects of the Phuket Night Market.

All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A lot of people would say," well that's their job, of course they're helpful". Well the staff here seem to go that extra mile to ensure all your needs are met.
The room was cleaned daily and the bedding changed every other day, but, if you asked it can be changed daily. Our room maid was Ning and she was always smiling from ear to ear. A lovely character.

Our tour rep for Kuoni/Go Vacation was a young lady called Noo. She was an absolute mine of information. We were advised which tours were best at certain times and which would be better to do from another of the resorts we were visiting later on our tour.

We booked a tour to the Phi phi Islands but sadly I picked up a 24 hour bug which meant my wife had to go on the tour alone, but Noo let the tour crew know what happened and they took extra care to ensure my wife was well cared for.

Overall the food choices at Cape Panwa were very good. Although we were on a bed and breakfast basis there were no short cuts. The breakfast menu was everything from continental to full English and as much or as little as you choose.

The hotel ran a free shuttle bus service to the local bay where you could visit street traders or shop at the local 7/11 grocery store or make use of local restaurants. The bus, more an open backed minibus, would run every 15 minutes.

The hotel had a good choice of pools and a nice beach.

A good place to start our special tour.

We are 13 days into our 2 week holiday booked via TUI for the full board option. We're a couple with a four year old.

Unfortunately this hotel is not for us. We ended up going to stay in Koh Lanta for a few days as we were so disappointed.

Pros: The staff are brilliant, very welcoming and helpful. Maggie in reception and the ladies who work in the restaurants are lovely.
The location is beautiful, very quiet and not much in the area but we like the peace staying out of the hustle and bustle. There's also a shuttle bus that runs all the time as the hotel is based on a hill.

Cons:
This is NOT a 5* hotel. Needs a make over. Our room was so far away and it's a lift then lots of steps so not Buggie friendly!
The food is 3*. The buffet is terrible, serving cold food, and when you pay for a la carte it's not much better. I ordered fish for my daughter and it came out frozen in the middle! This is just not acceptable for "5*". We were also charged over £100 each for the Christmas eve meal which was an absolute shambles. Only found out today that we should only be charged 50% on a la carte food after paying full price the whole holiday. Baring in mind it cost us £9000 to stay here and we've spent thousands on top of that.

Things that need to be addressed immediately:
There are three major health & safety concerns with this hotel:
1) the lighthouse - perfect if you want to wind down for a drink and a game of pool, however, they have really low windows next to the seats near the pool table which they keep open and it would be so easy for a child (or adult) to lean over and fall out and the fall would be fatal! I am surprised there hasn't been an accident already! Just fit a safety bar across the windows.
2) the beach area has huge drops from the grass area to the sand which then have lots of wood, nails etc. so if someone were to slip they could easily get hurt, and at night it's poorly lit. All it takes is to put rope up, lights, and signs for at night
3) the smaller pool by the beach isn't staffed and they don't close it off so it would be really easy for a child to run in and have an accident. I appreciate children should be watched but it would be easy to just fence it off late afternoon

We really like the idea of this hotel, it's welcoming, quirky, and in a beautiful location with the pretty tram to get to the beach. It just needs some tweaks and to train the staff better on cooking.

We haven't let it ruin our holiday. We love Thailand (it's our 6th time) but we won't be returning to this hotel sadly.

Dear Kateiemariewilliams, Thank you for your feedback and for choosing to stay with us according to your original reservation. We are delighted that you appreciated our staff and the location. Your positive comments will be shared with everyone on our team. Your room, located in our Cape Junior Suite building, has been recently renovated. It is conveniently accessible by the lift, including the top floors, which is a standard feature of the building. The Lighthouse has been in operation for 30 years, and we would like to clarify that the windows are fully ventilated with open shutters. We kindly remind parents to ensure the safety of their children in this area. As for the beach, it is subject to the natural rhythms of high and low tides, which can cause the sand to be washed in and out. Our Grounds Crew cleans the beach several times each day to maintain its safety and appearance. The beachside pool is closed at 18h00, and a clear sign is posted to indicate when it is no longer available although we take your point about fencing off the area and we will look into that. Thank you for your concern. Regarding your package, it entitles you to daily full board, excluding the special Christmas Event dinner. The supplement for three persons was just around £65 in total. We are sorry to read of the concerns you mentioned, and we will be addressing them individually to ensure your complete satisfaction on your next visit. We would like to thank you again for alerting us to these points and we wish you all and Happy New Year from all of us at Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket! Sincerely yours, The Managemen, Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket

We really enjoyed our stay here, although seeing a few negative reviews we really enjoyed it. all the staff were very kind and helpful. we started our holidays without it being Easter break so there were no children and it was lovely. we are a 21 y/o couple so we don't mind a few kids but it was lovely to not have any, however.. as we approached Easter weekend the hotel filled with screaming children, who did not know how to behave in a five star hotel... if you are wanting peace and serenity do not book during an upcoming holiday period. we noticed within 3 days of Easter there was double the amount of guests and kids, therefore made the pool a little crowded. however, before this it was amazing.
we id not try the restaurants Nans or Reef so cannot comment.
the breakfast café was lovely and so was the bamboo beach bar we had lunch here a few times.
although we were full board we ate our every night because the local restaurants were so welcoming and delicious.
down from the hill Sabaii Sabaii is AMAZING best food we had whilst in Thailand.
the spas up from the hotel are very reasonly priced and will also cater to do your washing we had 9kg washed and pressed for £15 at diva, they were fabulous.
uncle johns is a must, a tiny bar serving cheap beer and everyone leaves being friends, very accommodating with nuts and fresh fruit and lemon towels, a very kind local man.

Overall, we loved it here and cant give too much complaint, in regards to other reviews.. yes it needs a few touches and yes some part need a lick of paint but during our stay the staff were working tirelessly in 37 degree heat to make decorative changes. so we cant fault them. would defiantly stay here again :)

PS don't book day trips through hotel as they are significantly more expensive, go into old Phuket town and find a tourist stand. :)

night market - Sundays at Phuket old town 6-10

We have stayed at this hotel on and off for 25 years and, for us, it is perfect. We love Cape Panwa and are glad to say the quiet colonial charm offered here has been retained over the years, and it is this which makes this hotel so very special. It is listed on various sites as a 4.5-5* hotel and this will depend on your expectations as to whether you agree. If you want loud music pumping out day and night, lots of children’s activities, slides etc in the pool, air conditioning and high tech gadgetry everywhere then maybe you should look for a different hotel, as you won’t get these things here. What you do get is a private beach, a gym, two swimming pools, a spa, quality service, and idyllic surroundings to switch off and relax in. There are several bars and restaurants on site offering different cuisines: Thai, Italian, classic French, a beach restaurant and of course, the buffet, all of which are excellent. If you want to dine in the Thai or French restaurants however please respect there is a dress code request – no vest type T-shirts, no shorts and no flip-flop beach shoes, you can be more casual in the other eateries. We have stayed in a different room each time we have been to Cape Panwa, and can honestly say that we have never been disappointed. But one of the most charming things about this hotel is the staff. Without exception from the Reception to the beach towel attendants and everyone in between, the staff are all so helpful and polite. We would especially like to thank everyone involved for making our stay this time so special. We will be back.

Returned Monday 6/1 with my family from the New Year spent in Phuket at the Cape Panwa hotel: more than positive experience and to recommend.
The structure is of excellent standard and is located in a privileged position on the sea. The common areas and rooms (we booked 2 junior suites with sea-body view T /T305-T306) kept always neat and clean. Staff helpful and friendly.
The restaurant buffet or alternative restaurants for dinner is good. Mostly Thai dishes but also offering international alternatives enriched with fruit and many really delicious desserts. I recommend trying dinner at Top of the Reef restaurant. We went there three times: location and well-kept and good quality dishes made the evenings very pleasant.
The property is sold in Italy by Francorosso who does not provide entertainment but only assistance. Francorosso operators help guests book excursions, give important indications on how to best experience the hotel and are always available for a chat.
To them as to all the other assistants of other nationalities the credit for an excellent organization of the New Year's Eve dinner on the beach. Only advice in the allocation of shared tables to group guests by nationality. We did with Francorosso the excursions
Elephant Sanctuary, Phi PhiIsland, James Bond Island and Coral Island. Everything went well but in such large groups the waits were long and maybe for my next time I would bet on a direct booking with one of the many agencies that are right outside the hotel. Warm weather with sunshine all day. I hope to return to Phuket!

Last year vacationed at the hotel of the same chain Kantary Bay, very enjoyed, especially the beach, which belongs to Cape Panwa. So this year we decided to go here, as on the beautiful beach of this hotel you can swim from the early morning, rather than waiting for the shuttle from Kantari.

So, upon arrival, welcome drink and a damp towel without any sentiment, filling in the documents, (no deposit) ,and in 15 minutes we are already in the room with (WOW) great sea view. The room itself is ordinary, comfortable , on the balcony stands a sofa, thought we would lie on it, but no, it is very hot, it is better to lie by the sea or pool))). The room is all set, the only thing that is very noisy air conditioning and ventilation, loud trashing, feels age. The minibar is paid for, we didn't use it. Cleaning was done normally, bed linen was changed frequently.

It was very convenient that the room had a third key, so the air conditioning was always on and it wasn't hot.

There is no fumigator in the room, but mosquitoes do))

We only had breakfasts, varied and quite delicious, during the rest nothing was eaten. No toothpicks.

All in all, everything is fine in the hotel, only there were two precedents, one amusing - a white t-shirt disappeared from the bed, apparently the maid, while collecting laundry, did not notice. And the second one was unpleasant, when they left they demanded to pay for some chips or candy, which we didn't see in the eye. Since our transfer had already arrived, I wanted to pay, but they didn't. In general it was unpleasant, next time I will control the bar )))

I want to go back to the hotel, I miss you. So, see you later, Cape Panwa!

Cape Panwa hotel is an old hotel, but in many ways still a nice hotel. The rooms were spacious, however the shower did not fit two people of normal size. The safe in the room appeared to be just as old as the hotel itself, and even the smallest laptop computer would not be able to fit inside it. The breakfast restaurant was always understaffed, and the food was below the standard we are used to from other 5-star hotels. However, the staff were all great and did everything they possibly could to try to keep up. The food in the breakfast restaurant was mediocre and every morning we had to wait in line around 10 minutes, just to be allowed to place an order for a fresh omelet or fried eggs, which could not be delivered to the table. All bread appeared to be industrially made instead of freshly baked in own bakery. Freshly brewed tea or coffee was not included in the breakfast buffet and would have to be ordered from the menu at a high extra cost. Cape Panwa hotel seems to be mainly catering to large European travel tour groups, who drive a hard bargain regarding the cost of the breakfast buffet, which seems to be why the standard is lower than in other 5-star hotels. At least one member of the staff told us so. The food in Andaman Café was reasonably priced but unfortunately also a little disappointing. Panwa House is closed on Mondays and was also closed on other days due to private parties. The only evening we visited Panwa House for dinner, we had to sit inside the house which has no air conditioning, since the many outdoor tables had been reserved in advance. The Thai food in Panwa House was also disappointing. The beach was nice, but only suitable for swimming a few hours in the morning. In the room only one bottle of drinking water per person per day is offered for free. If you need more water, you will have to pay for it. I don't remember that I have ever stayed in a hotel in Thailand, which did not offer 2 bottles of water per person per day. We will not be visiting Cape Panwa again, since the local area has nothing of value for us outside the hotel grounds.

Response from Cape and Kantary Hotels, Other at Cape Panwa Hotel
Responded 17 May 2023
Dear FinnR_11, Thank you for writing with your views on your visit to Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket. We are an established property in a very lush, natural location which gives our hotel an individual charm and one of the best beaches in Phuket. Our popular breakfast omelettes and egg dishes are all made to order and at certain times there can be a brief wait; we apologise if you found that unsuitable. However, I would like to point out that we have our own in-house bakery and all bread and cakes are prepared here daily. Similarly, we offer freshly-brewed coffee and tea every morning at breakfast with an à la carte option on drinks such as Latte, Espresso or Cappuccino at a nominal charge. Our client base is largely return guests but we can also cater to medium-sized meeting groups. There are certainly no large tour groups as you appear to have perceived. We apologise over your Café Andaman experience and we are surprised that the Panwa House menu of authentic Thai dishes was not to your liking. This is an historic building, unique in Phuket, and we consider it better to maintain it in its original condition, so no air-conditioning has been installed. On the other hand, we rarely receive any negative comments over this as diners are experiencing a taste of history with their food. We normally provide two free bottles of drinking water per room per day, as is common in hotels in Thailand but we are quite willing to offer extra bottles if required. We provide tide tables in the suites and at Reception to allow guests to programme their swimming activities and, for the dedicated swimmer, there is the beach-side infinity pool. We hope that, in view of this information, we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future. Cape and Kantary Hotels supports SOS Children’s Villages and the TSPCA. We do not serve foie gras, birds’ nest or shark’s fin and we stand firmly against the exploitation of Thai elephants for commerce or entertainment. Sincerely yours, Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket Management

The hotel served us all very well, it had everything that we needed as a family of four. The rooms were spacious and had everything. Favourite part of the main bedroom was the wardrobe area with a little powder room type set up with extra lighting, hair dryer, make up mirror and a seat.
Buffet breakfast was amazing! Lots of variety and not too crowded. Plenty of space for all and the kids were able to freely select what they wanted.
House keeping staff were so lovely, each day bringing water and changing bedding etc.
We ate and drank at the hotel daily and we really enjoyed the variety of options that the hotel had. The beach area was great for swimming, kayaking, paddling etc. Both pools were fantastic too. Gym facilities were very useful too, we all used the gym after breakfast.
Special shout out to Pooh, Prik and the Breaky team. Especially the staff that were cooking the omelette at the egg station daily. We enjoyed a special request of ice coffee and they always knew what we wanted, always with a smile.
We attended a wedding and that was an amazing set up- we would love to return!

"Best to visit November to March or April as after this it's the monsoon season so not quite as warm or dry. Best to use local transport rather than hiring a car."
