Sadly, the proprietor Steve has passed away and the name Fiji Palms Hotel is no long used. The Resturant and Bungelows are still operating with Khun June the Proprietor (Khun June built the whole Resort originally) as The Moon House Bungelows and Resturant. The Baris now Renamed the Sunrise Bar.
OK this hotel is not a top of the range, but, it does have a great deal to offer that a lot of hotels I have stayed in do not. You have a fantastic out of this world sunrise (Feb 06:15 am) should you wish to see it. An extremely good restaurant on site, (not owned by Steve), and a very good inexpensive local Thai restaurant on the other side of the road, along with a 24 hour supermarket and other shops and restaurants. You can get a hour massage on site, and Steve will change money for you should you require it, and, if you want day trips, he can also organise that as well. He will also offer to take you on a local tour and take you to a local beach. The hotel is NOT in the main stream of the tourist trap like Phuket, it is far removed from that with no Macdonald's, Burger King and KFC, in this area you can get inexpensive local wholesome food, yes there are the more upmarket restaurants if you want them. Try the bar 'At the Beach', ideal for watching the sun go down and for good food. Steve, thank you for helping mak a very memorable and enjoyable holiday. Stewart, Gill, Malcolm and Jenny…
Steve, the Owner of this resort is what makes this place to stick out. He is going out of his way to offer help in any way you may seek. He has also a very good humor and is himself very well traveled which makes for some interesting stories from his own adventures. The Resort itself is probably one of the best priced water front places in Phuket. It has everything you might need, even though simple but all practical and functional. A couple of good restaurant within a very short walking distance. A very good small supermarket with everything you might want to keep in the fridge of your room is just opposite of the resort.
We booked thinking this was going to be a nice resort but it wasn't. When we first arrived there was no one there to greet us to check in. The place seemed run down. Currently, the owner Steve is the only one running the place. Steve greeted us when he came back, checked us in, advised us of the area, and told us about renting a motorbike across the street (great place to rent). We went into the room to put our bags down and there were 8-10 cockroaches in the bathroom. Upon telling him, he immediately had a maintenance man come and patch the cracks in the bathroom and get rid of the cockroaches. While the bathroom problem was being fixed, he took us around the town to show us the area. This hotel does not have beach access and the beach it's "near" is so dirty and filthy with trash we were afraid of stepping foot on it. There are concrete steps however down to the rocky area water, which you can rent a canoe and paddle around the ocean. It was rare seeing Steve around as one night we wanted to play pool but no one was around to get the sticks and balls from. After we had motorbiked around during the day we would come back and swim in the over-cholorinated pool, which made the eyes sting and burn. Unfortunately the bathrooms at the pool are dirty so would not suggest to use them. Beds are not comfy and the air con was loud! Overall, we were disappointed with our stay as the place was run down and not well maintained. Would not come back to this hotel ever.…
