I booked into here for 4 nights. I was unaware that it was next to a large construction site. I was given a room on the bottom level that opened into a carpark filled with construction and construction workers. The room was basic. There were no facilities. You cannot swim at the beach there. The ladies on the front desk were unwelcoming and unhelpful. For an extra $10 per night, i left and booked into 'By the Sea 'which is magical!! Oh and The Chalet Panwa didnt offer to refund any money despite not advising about the construction.
This is a nice part of Phuket; it feels relatively underdeveloped but still has a good selection of bars and restaurants. The Chalet is in a great location - right across from the sea and in the center of the action. The Aquarium is a short walk away. However, we were quite disappointed with the room when we arrived. It's the usual case of expectations based on photographs that look nothing like the real thing. It's a 2 storey building. The rooms on the ground floor are the cheaper (that's what we had, although IMO it wasn't a 'cheap' room as such) and quite dark. They have a little private area just outside the door with a table and 2 chairs with a view of the car park. We were shown a room on the first floor as a comparison which was absolutely massive and a bit brighter (there was a view of the sea if you craned your neck on the landing outside the door) but we didn't think the extra cost was worth it for two of us for 1 night. The room was OK - basic but comfortable. The bathroom was small - shower over the toilet etc - but again, OK. It was quite well equipped with a fridge & safe. We asked for extra pillows which the girl on reception tried to charge us for. After we objected that we didn't want to buy them, she spoke with another Thai man and off she went to get them, at no cost. Not a particularly friendly place. There's no restaurant or other facilities here - just a room for the night. All in all it's an average place, nothing special but in a good position. You could do better if you have a bigger budget but otherwise, at the right price, this isn't bad for a night or two.…
Couldn't book into our first choice, i.e. Kantary Bay, but for the price which we paid for for The Chalet Panwa, it was a decent alternative. It is a definitely a no-frill place, seemingly popular with local Thai families. Guests could easily walk out to catch the shuttle service provided by Kantary Bay (out of Chalet, turn left, just a couple of hundred metres down). Have never been asked by driver to prove that we were guests of Kantary :)) No breakfast provided but it's no big hassle. There's a nice bakery nearby or ... do what we did ... A lazy lie-in in the morning and then off for brunch at Sawasdee. There is also a daily night market at the esplanade right in front of Chalet. The girl at the reception office arranged for a car pick-up to the airport. Nice lady driver and it cost us only 700 baht in a nice clean Camry.…
