Probably one of the funnest places to stay in South Africa if you're okay with a place that is quite unorganized and dirty. Staff are a bit all over the place, but they are friendly and you are greeted upon arrival with a smile and a shot of Old Brown Sherry. We stayed in a tent and it was filled...

I stayed at Dijembe for two nights during my travels and totally loved it ! James who is running the place is a great guy, taking care of everything and making everything work out for you, though you might have to remind him a few times. He did a great job and makes sure to have everyone feel comfortable. The...

Great hostel for meeting people. Hostel has family dinners each night and free unlimited pancake breakfast each morning. The owner (James) is so lovely and will go out of his way to help you organise activities and make your stay memorable. Beds are large and comfortable, had a great nights sleep here. A seriously great hostel, don't stay anywhere else...

If I'd be a headhunter in the backpackers scene, I'd rush to storms river for James! Seriously, I hope Dijembe is paying this guy well. He is the heart and soul of the place and every party there. Charming, entertaining, organising, calming down moods, cheering up, whatever is needed. Because of him we already liked the place before we got...

A typical Dijembe day: waking up, waiting for the shower, greeting the always happy James at reception, straight into the kitchen for the free pancakes, just chilling around in the garden, short walk to the village for food or activities, and in the evening sitting around the bonfire or the fire in the cosy living room with all the guests....

One of the best hostels that I went to ! It looks like you are at a friend's cottage. Free pankakes in the morning (you bake it yourself and could add what you prefer in it). The staff is awesome and you should go there if you like animals ! Many activities to do around and cheap dorms/camping !

Since we were on a roadtrip we only stayed one night. We slept in one of the tents with a normal bed. When we arrived the tent wasn't ready yet, but we wanted to go surfing first anyway. When we got back we got a welkomshot, a big beer and a tour through the place. The guy working there gave...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As you walk into Dijembe you become a part of what this homely and sustainable lodge's name promises: a circle of friends. Handmade hammocks, recycled building materials, fresh mountain water and small details like the 'frog city' which protects little amphibians in the wild green camping garden, prove the passion of the green Dijembe team. Respecting the Khoisan ancestors, Dijembe not only invites its guests to drumming and dances, but also preserves their heritage by including and strengthening the local community. Visit the local township with its art shops and taverns. Bounce through the National Park and explore nature on foot, affordable mountain bikes or on the backs of Dijembe's horses - or book some tubing. End the day with a wholesome organic dinner and bread from the stone pizza oven, then star gaze from the jacuzzi on the candle-lit deck. ... more   less
