Our stay at the melati (about 10 days over the new year) was perfect. The resort itself is beautifully lush, brimming with tropical flowers, gorgeous landscapes, freshwater ponds with fish that also attract local birds (from tropical sun birds to strutted heron, Brahminy kites and Indian rollers). All over the grounds there is something heavenly to look at. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. They treated us like family. The beachfront is picturesque with views toward Koh Pa Ngan and other islands in the gulf. The spa was excellent, particularly the hot coconut massage. We stayed in a pool villa, which was fantastic. The villas themselves are well appointed and comfortable, and the private pool was perfect. Again, but our friends stayed in a regular room and really enjoyed it was well. With two pools: an infinity pool by the beach with a swim-up bar, and a much more cloistered Khmer-style pool for adults that is nestled in the middle of the property, meant we could always find a lounge chair and space to swim. Loved the food. Used the gym. But mostly loved the incredibly friendly staff and the stunning landscapes along the resort. It was a perfect trip. Noni, Peach. Eit, John at the bar, Goong and all the staff we met were so friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Spring for the pool villa, and a two-bedroom one if it’s available. The private pool is so worth...

Beautiful, secluded setting w thoughtful landscaping! Away from town & w its private beach Lots of plants & local fauna. We spotted Brahminy kites, flavescent bulbuls, sunbirds, 2 types of herons, black naped orioles, Indian roller, magpie robins, etc. Complimentary kayaks & paddle boards available for use Professional, helpful, courteous staff. Delicious variety of local food offerings Overall wonderful experience!! Would highly recommend this!!

The hotel itself is lovely: very nice resort and lovely room. Also nice spa, very nice pool area and lovely restaurant with good food. However the first night we were shocked as we expected, as one can in a 5-star hotel, 24/7 room service and a filled minibar. To our surprise the room service finished at 20.30 (which we discovered just after 9, when we wanted to order a coffee and some snack) and on top of that the minibar was empty, except for 4 small bottles of water, which in itself is not sufficient for a room with two occupants. Although the resort itself is very nice and the room really lovely I won’t return here simply because midnight snacking is part of staying in a five star hotel.

Very old and in fact 3* hotel. Seems it hasn't been renovated since opening. We reserved it because of private and beautiful beach but when we came there it was full of garbage which we cleaned by ourselves. Breakfast is extremely bad and poor. Consist of cheap products, package juices. Everywhere broken beach beds, very old towels with holes. You always have feeling of dirty space around. A lot of dirty and very old details: furniture, towels, shampoo and soap containers... all this small details create very bad experience.

Booking our upcoming trip to Koh Samiu was very challenging for me as I found it hard to sieve through dated reviews of many highly rated resorts. I am by no means a high maintenance traveller and I am completely aware that the last 2 years must have been extra challenging for the hospitality industry, as will the months to come be - the massive impact covid must have has to be kept in mind, therefore I was way more understanding of general neglect, wear and tear at these properties. I also kept in mind that there must have been a massive salary cut for staff - and things can simply not be compared to pre covid times - that in mind I wrote this review. I did not stay at the property however we were searching for properties to base ourselves during our holiday - I will comment on what I did see and experience! Melati is very secluded and really not ideal if you do not plan to drive. The reception staff were extremely rude as we walked in to the lobby, absolutely felt like we were in the way as we made our way to the reception desk. The property was exceptionally dated, seems like there has not been any upkeep at all. It was gravely quiet with a single guest sitting and waiting to check out. The villa with a pool had a musty smell, as if it had not been aired for months. The gardens were unkept and I would really be very depressed if I had to spend a single night there. Please look elsewhere for that price - significantly better options for the same or even lower rate.
