The resort is great , beautiful nature, great breafast, the staff was very attentive and nice. We were also happy with our party on the 14th century Abbey. Something to improvea are the bathroom linnen which were not at the level of 5 star hotel. They need to be renewed.

This resort is a truly special place. We arrived early in the morning and were quickly registered and guided to a very nice room with a king size bed to get some rest after flying all night. We spent four nights here attending a wedding. The staff were all outstanding and they all spoke English on request. The people refreshing the rooms were also working to make our stay comfortable. We did not use the pool, spa or golf course so will not comment on these facilities. Being a golfer, I did walk a few holes to look at the layout and it did look challenging. The restaurants and bar were well staffed and very pleasant experiences. The bride and groom had 50 guests for a wedding and we only heard positive comments on the hotel and staff. The wedding reception was held in the 14th century Abbey on the property and it was also well maintained with a superb wedding.

Beautiful grounds and luxurious rooms , the hotel is truly stunning . The staff could be more attentive to first timers as found that they spent a lot of time with clients that come year on year however this didn’t spoil our experience . The breakfast was lovely and had everything that you could wish for ! Found the pool restaurant to be very over priced and the food was mediocre, however the pool was excellent !

Got upgraded to one of the nicer suites. The resort is simply amazing; the setting is gorgeous for a nice and relaxing stay. While the hotel was catering for a wedding during our stay, the hotel is very private. Moreover, the level of service is remarkable. The concierge helped us with our dinner arrangements as well as with some travel incidents we got while travelling in Portugal. We tried the breakfast which was very nice and again in a beautiful setting giving on the gardens. Wished we could have stayed more than a night!

We’ve been staying at Penha Longa and overall have found it to be a lovely hotel. The grounds are beautiful, the pool and spa are some of the best we’ve experienced, and the food of a great quality (albeit the price point can be quite high!). So it was a shame that our visit (and a number of other guests we talked to whilst staying also commented on this) was overshadowed by the managers’ preoccupation with a handful of “difficult” guests. I respect that the managers are keen to ensure such guests have a good experience, but this shouldn’t be at the expense of the attention paid to all guests. For example, at breakfast each morning the managers would spend almost all of their time chatting to such guests despite leaving the front desk unattended and having the rest of us wait a short while until another staff member noticed and seated us. This was made all the more disappointing when we noticed the managers bringing out to said guests plates of food from the kitchen which were not made available to other guests of the hotel. Even by the pool, the guests demanded almost an hour of a manager’s time despite the many other guests who required assistance. We understand that the hotel are keen to ensure such difficult guests enjoy their stay, but this shouldn’t be to the extent that it detracts from others’ experience. At the end of the day, we are all paying customers. It’s a shame as otherwise our stay was lovely.

Response from penhal0nga, General Manager at Penha Longa Resort

Dear dev1925 We appreciate your review and are glad to know all in all you had a lovely stay with us. The experience you describe is clearly not the type of attention we strive to give to our guests, as we always try to give to All guests the same level of exceptional service. Actions are already in place to avoid similar situations in the future. We hope we will have the chance to accommodate you in a near future and restore your confidence in our hotel. Kind regards David Martínez General Manager

We visited in early January and the outdoor pool area was not set up for use, I assume the pool is not heated. They have a very nice indoor pool in the spa. I'd contact the hotel for activities although they do offer some outstanding, high-end dining. Staff is outstanding, you will enjoy your stay The resort is located close enough to the shore line to visit a beach and other attractions over looking the water. Like you, we were in Porto before Sintra and we stayed in Sintra at the end of our trip so we would be close to the airport. Sintra is within reach of Lisbon and many historical sites. I found UTube has some very helpful videos which gave us enough information to decide where to visit and offered some advice from those that travel more than I do. It also showed us what the local like which was great especially for food and drink. We had a rental car in Sinta and be aware that the roads are narrow and many are one way, makes it a little more challenging if you are not used to that type of driving. We tried to use trains or Uber as much as possible.

I personally absolutely recommend to stay in Penha Longa because you can see Sintra, it is only 30 km to Lisbon, to Cascais. There are many places to see if you stay in that gorgeous Penha Longa which by itself is in my list "must see" + "must feel". And I am sure that the hotel has top level concierge service which will help you to schedule your trips and sightseeing.

What is the surface of the tennis courts, please ? Bitumen, grass, Astro grass, clay, Plexi pave ? Thank you.
I know for sure that they have everything on top-level so I assume that the best surface for tennis they do have. Sorry for such an answer. But I know exactly for sure that the hotel is really top-level so everything is really of a highest quality there. Even cosmetics in the rooms was by Bulgary and coffee machine Nespresso.

Hello. The resort is amazing for kids in all honesty, the staff at Pena Longa are the most interactive and helpful. Hotel transfers are extremely expensive so we used ubers for 99% of our trip, i would explain to concierge where we wanted to go and when the uber would arrive they would brief them. Between the playroom, activities and playground I would be surprised if your kids want to even leave the resort. We went to visit the science museum, oceanarium (there is a huge mall close by for food and a cable car), Benifica Football stadium and Sintra (yes we walked right to the top) and the local people were extremely helpful. Be sure to wear no slip shoes around sintra as cobbled stones in the rain are a dangerous combination! The hotel transfers all in all were the most expensive part of the trip, so we just kept to the airport transfer for peace of mind, rest assured the ubers are safe and child friendly - plus if they speak English you can find out about little hidden gems!
