I love traveling and travel to various places both in Japan and abroad every year, but this was the best inn I've ever stayed at, from the scenery, rooms, building, hot springs, food, value for money, to the hospitality of the staff. I can understand why it's always fully booked. Enjoying the spectacular view while soaking my feet in the foot bath while drinking the free draft beer and wine was a dreamlike experience. Dinner and breakfast were both very delicious, and I ate too much and gained weight (lol). Everyone who went with me was very, very satisfied 🩷 We'll definitely visit again.

We had decided to stop by Kawaguchiko on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto. Although we were disappointed not to be able to see Mount Fuji, the tranquility of the hotel, the lake, the service, and the food service made our stay so needed and very pleasant. The contrast of the cool and peaceful air of this region to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and summer heat did not go unnoticed. The mental and physical break from the enormity of what is Tokyo was so needed. The rooms were clean and sleeping on the floor is part of the cultural norm (although my back and hip would prefer are more western bed). The absolute stars of this hotel is the onsen and the dinner service. I believe I counted over 19 dishes served for dinner. This is what I call a luxurious and rejuvenating vacation. I wish we could have stayed for longer. This hotel makes me appreciate the art of Japanese cuisine and I am so grateful to the hardworking staff and our female hostess. Thank you Shuhokaku Kogetsu staff.

This was my first visit of mountain Fuji. So I wished to have a best angle and location to see the view of the mountain. So I chose this hotel. And the experiences were seems great and awesome! Staffs were friendly and helpful. Especially thanks for making us the Japanese green tea for the welcome drink. When I enter the room, the Japanese style room made me feeling warm and comfortable. And the main point was the Fuji view in the room, was really awesome! It was the best angle that showing the Fuji in your front, and I didn’t see before. It was really eye catching and made me shocked. For the included Japanese dinner was delicious too. The food was fresh and delicate. You could really feel the intention by the creators. Overall, it was really memorable. And I must stay with them again in the fast coming future!

Traveled with a four years old toddler and paid additional fee for kids meal breakfast and headcount fee. After dinner, the staffs only setup two beds. We looked into the closet and tried to setup one extra bed for our kid, but there was no pillow cover , mattress sheet, and blanket cover. We requested for those missing items, but somehow they only gave us mattress sheet and no more response. Paid more than $1000 usd per night. Compared the similar price tag, we rather continue stay at fufu one more day than move ourselves to this poor service property.

Wow, what a hotel! We wanted a traditional Japanese experience, and we got it! Staff are really friendly and very helpful. Hotel is very clean and welcoming. The views of mount Fuji from the public areas and your hotel room are amazing. It's about 3 miles from the town, but we loved this as it was quiet and had unspoilt views of the lake and Mount Fuji. The hotel had an onsen which we used during our stay, which was so relaxing. As we were there with another couple we had dinner in a private traditional Japanese dining room and the meal both nights was amazing. If you have anyone in your party that doesn't like fish, let the hotel know in advance and they will do alternate dishes for that person.
We opted for a Japanese style bedroom and we are so glad we did as it was a great experience and a really comfortable sleep.
There is a bike hire place next door to hire bicycles (they also have electric assisted bikes too) and you can either just turn up or the hotel will make a reservation in advance for you. We had a really pleasant day riding round the lake and into the town. There is also a path to walk next to the lake and it is possible to walk into the town.
We would highly recommend this hotel.

No doubt about it! This is by far the best hotel in the area!! We spent two nights here in December 2023.

It's one of the few hotels directly located by the lake, offering unobstructed views of the mountains and lake, without any interference from trees or buildings.

The food was outstanding, with a wide variety to choose from. They changed the main course every night during our stay, allowing us to savor different flavors. They served dinner in the room. The breakfast is a semi-buffet, featuring delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine.

The service was excellent. The front desk staff and even the shuttle service personnel spoke fluent English. All the staff members were incredibly polite and attentive.

It breaks my heart not to give this hotel full 5 stars as I was really looking forward to staying here after the wonderful reviews. The staff was great, super nice and spoke English, I enjoyed the kaiseki dinner set up, and of course, the magical Mt. Fuji view was breathtaking, but there was aspects of the stay that I found lacking. First, the lack of fresh towels in the public bathing area. There was a note in our room that said that there won’t be fresh towels starting at a certain hour in the evening, either 8:00 or 9:00 PM. That was fine, we brought our own from the room. However, the next morning when the public baths opened again at 5:00 AM, I was there at 6 am and there were no towels at all. I had not brought any with me, thinking they would restock the towels in the morning. For something this basic, like towels, I’m not sure why this can’t be accomplished. Also I can’t fault the hotel from the behavior of other guests, but towards the evening there were families in the public bath area, little boys and girls running and screaming in the Women’s bath house, treating it like a public pool. It ruined the tranquil atmosphere of the onsen, but there were no other hotel staff or workers around at all. I had to leave after 10 minutes, which was disappointing. This hotel is very popular with visitors and for having the most perfect view of Mt. Fuji, but some facilities are very dated and lacking in areas.

My wife and daughter enjoyed our stay at this hotel for one night. Check in was fast and simple. The entire staff of the hotel were all kind and helpful. After being oriented with the hotel facilities which includes an onsen. We were then escorted to our room, to my knowledge is a traditional “ryokan”. Each guest is then given a kimono to wear together with socks and slippers adding some color to the overall experience and great for photo taking. This is of course optional for hotel guests. For those who are not comfortable sleeping on the floor, mattresses and blankets are available in each room. In fact they will set up the bed for you while you are having dinner.

The bathroom was nice, the shower and heater were all working perfectly.

Dinner was simply spectacular. It was an authentic 9 course menu kaiseki ryori which included plenty of fresh seafood. I had to say that we were all blown away by the entire meal.

Breakfast buffet was also excellent as they served numerous authentic japanese dishes and also tempura. The taste of the food was unique and we were all very satisfied.

In my opinion the best part of the hotel room is its balcony which overlooks lake kawaguchi and the ever elusive mount fuji in all of its glory. Imagine waking up to the sunrise with the view of mount fuji.

Outside of the breakfast area or common dining area is another area for taking photos of mount fuji. Further down the stairs is already the edge of lake kawaguchi. For those who do not have time to drive around the lake to get a good shot of mount fuji, this area outside of the restaurant is guaranteed to give you an unobstructed view of mount fuji barring any weather problem of course.

Although our stay at this hotel was brief, we enjoyed it very much, in fact it was both a memorable and pleasant one. Wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely recommend this hotel.

The room was clean and well maintained, and the ryoken experience was fun and comfortable. We had an excellent view of mt Fuji from our room, and we enjoyed the kaiseki dinner they served in our room with our own personal server.

Breakfast was also nice! Would do it again. Worth the 1k/night.

What I love the most about this hotel was the rooms. The rooms was like traditional Japanese houses. The room was huge and had a beautiful view of Mt.Fuji. They even gave a Yukata for kids and adults. I was surprised there was an Onsen in this hotel. The staff in the check~in center will give you a rule~set about how to use the Onsen. there was a indoor Onsen and a outdoor Onsen which even had a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji. they served us free beer and ice water near the Onsen. The Kaiseki dinner was beyond our expectation. The presentation of the food was wonderful. They even asked questions if we had allergies and if we could eat raw meat. The staff that took care of us was really nice and spoke English fluently. The food was also very good. We also tried the breakfast there. I loved the Japanese menu especially the omelet. Overall this was my favorite stay in our 2~week trip.

The hotel shuttle bus will pick you up at Kawaguchi station from 14.30 pm. Please contact the information counter when you arrive this station and ask for calling the hotel shuttle bus. Anyway the retro bus (red line) is available for everyone. Shuhoukaku Kogetsu is infront of bus stop no.17.

We didn’t use the bus, just taxis. But I heard of a sightseeing bus that services the area. Trip advisor seems to prohibits me from posting the website link but you can search for Kawaguchiko Sightseeing bus red line and there is a map and timetable with all the stops including where the ryokan is.
