This was my first visit of mountain Fuji. So I wished to have a best angle and location to see the view of the mountain. So I chose this hotel. And the experiences were seems great and awesome! Staffs were friendly and helpful. Especially thanks for making us the Japanese green tea for the welcome drink. When I enter the room, the Japanese style room made me feeling warm and comfortable. And the main point was the Fuji view in the room, was really awesome! It was the best angle that showing the Fuji in your front, and I didn’t see before. It was really eye catching and made me shocked. For the included Japanese dinner was delicious too. The food was fresh and delicate. You could really feel the intention by the creators. Overall, it was really memorable. And I must stay with them again in the fast coming future!

I believe this is the hotel with best view of Mt. Fuji. The view from the room is amazing. Breakfast and dinner (half-board) are rich and sumptuous. Great public bath as well. No wonder this hotel is so hard to book, we were very lucky to be there.

A fantastic location and such helpful staff. They took us to the start of our hike and then let us use the amazing Onsen when we returned despite us having checked out. The location is superb with uninterrupted Fuji views. Well away from the busy town.

I stayed at the Kogetsu for 2 nights in May and it was an unforgettable experience. Every detail was beautiful and thoughtful. I booked rather late and was not able to book the same room, so the first night I stayed in a Standard Western Style twin w open-air bath; and the second night in a Standard Japanese Modern w open-air bath (Triple). Both were on the 3rd (of 5) floors and both had stunning views of Mt Fuji. Both incorporated both Japanese and Western style. The first room had wood floors throughout and half-shoji screen doors so you could separate the bedroom and dining areas. It also had a small walk-in closet. The outdoor onsen was quite large (could easily fit 4 adults) and the patio was wider than in the Triple room. I posted pics of the Standard Western Style Twin and will post the pics of the Triple separately. In contrast the Triple room was larger and there was a gorgeous daybed (which becomes the 3rd bed) with windows on either side overlooking Mt Fuji. The onsen was a bit smaller (could easily fit 2 adults). The bedroom was carpeted, dining area had tatami-style mats, and hallway had wood floors. There was a wardrobe rather than walk-in closet in this room. Both rooms had a wet area for washing up before the onsen, a separate powder room, and separate toilet room. Honestly, you can’t go wrong - both rooms were gorgeous. I felt lucky to be here. One thing to note is that there is a boat launch beside the ryokan, so my open-air onsen on 3rd floor was not super private (there’s a screen to pull down if you want privacy, but it obscures the view). The 4th/5th floors would have more feeling of privacy. The kaiseki meals were beautifully displayed and delicious. The 2 nights’ menus were different but followed a similar (but not identical) format: 1) Aperitif, 2) Seasonal appetizers, 3) Soup, 4) Sashimi, 5) Main course (hot), 6) Steamed fish, 7) Grilled fish, 8) Palette cleanser, 9) simmered dish, 10) rice dish, and 11) dessert. My nakai, Fumiko-san, was lovely - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was also included - it was half- buffet, with an elegant bento box with appetizers and tamago. It also included delicious tempura, made to order and delivered to your table. The hotel has a happy hour from 2:30-6:30 where a limited selection of tea, coffee, nonalcoholic drinks, beer and wine are free. You can enjoy them on the gorgeous terrace overlooking Mt Fuji with your feet soaking in the footpath (just not in your room). Lastly there are shuttles every morning to Kawaguchiko Station or any of the tourist sights on the way, and the hotel will send a shuttle to pick you up when you are ready to come back. The location of this ryokan could not be better - close to some great museums and on the North shore of the lake, which has the best views (and away from the touristy South shore).

Great experience with this hotel and stunning with Mt. Fuji view from the balcony/window. Staffs have good service mind. There is both indoor and outdoor public bath with Mt. Fuji View. Dinner was served in-room on 9 course menu. Breakfast buffet was also great as they served numerous choice of foods including Japanese food. Hotel provided free shuttle to the train station. Overall experience was memorable and satisfied.

My family and I had two rooms booked for the first weekend of July 2022. I made the booking through another website, Agoda.com, so this review only reflects on them and the hotel. I made this reservation in February under the assumption travel to Japan would be allowed. I asked for a refund when it became clear it wouldn't be, and I also contacted the hotel as recommended by Agoda. The hotel was completely unwilling to listen to my concerns and told me they would only talk to the website. Agoda was unsuccessful in getting a refund after trying several times. If you want to encourage tourism, it's probably not a good idea to steal potential travelers' money. I even asked if I could postpone, put the rooms on consignment, try to resell them myself, etc, to no avail. Pretty heartless treatment given the circumstance. I can't imagine I would stay at a hotel that treats its customers this way now.

What I love the most about this hotel was the rooms. The rooms was like traditional Japanese houses. The room was huge and had a beautiful view of Mt.Fuji. They even gave a Yukata for kids and adults. I was surprised there was an Onsen in this hotel. The staff in the check~in center will give you a rule~set about how to use the Onsen. there was a indoor Onsen and a outdoor Onsen which even had a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji. they served us free beer and ice water near the Onsen. The Kaiseki dinner was beyond our expectation. The presentation of the food was wonderful. They even asked questions if we had allergies and if we could eat raw meat. The staff that took care of us was really nice and spoke English fluently. The food was also very good. We also tried the breakfast there. I loved the Japanese menu especially the omelet. Overall this was my favorite stay in our 2~week trip.

It breaks my heart not to give this hotel full 5 stars as I was really looking forward to staying here after the wonderful reviews. The staff was great, super nice and spoke English, I enjoyed the kaiseki dinner set up, and of course, the magical Mt. Fuji view was breathtaking, but there was aspects of the stay that I found lacking. First, the lack of fresh towels in the public bathing area. There was a note in our room that said that there won’t be fresh towels starting at a certain hour in the evening, either 8:00 or 9:00 PM. That was fine, we brought our own from the room. However, the next morning when the public baths opened again at 5:00 AM, I was there at 6 am and there were no towels at all. I had not brought any with me, thinking they would restock the towels in the morning. For something this basic, like towels, I’m not sure why this can’t be accomplished. Also I can’t fault the hotel from the behavior of other guests, but towards the evening there were families in the public bath area, little boys and girls running and screaming in the Women’s bath house, treating it like a public pool. It ruined the tranquil atmosphere of the onsen, but there were no other hotel staff or workers around at all. I had to leave after 10 minutes, which was disappointing. This hotel is very popular with visitors and for having the most perfect view of Mt. Fuji, but some facilities are very dated and lacking in areas.

My wife and daughter enjoyed our stay at this hotel for one night. Check in was fast and simple. The entire staff of the hotel were all kind and helpful. After being oriented with the hotel facilities which includes an onsen. We were then escorted to our room, to my knowledge is a traditional “ryokan”. Each guest is then given a kimono to wear together with socks and slippers adding some color to the overall experience and great for photo taking. This is of course optional for hotel guests. For those who are not comfortable sleeping on the floor, mattresses and blankets are available in each room. In fact they will set up the bed for you while you are having dinner. The bathroom was nice, the shower and heater were all working perfectly. Dinner was simply spectacular. It was an authentic 9 course menu kaiseki ryori which included plenty of fresh seafood. I had to say that we were all blown away by the entire meal. Breakfast buffet was also excellent as they served numerous authentic japanese dishes and also tempura. The taste of the food was unique and we were all very satisfied. In my opinion the best part of the hotel room is its balcony which overlooks lake kawaguchi and the ever elusive mount fuji in all of its glory. Imagine waking up to the sunrise with the view of mount fuji. Outside of the breakfast area or common dining area is another area for taking photos of mount fuji. Further down the stairs is already the edge of lake kawaguchi. For those who do not have time to drive around the lake to get a good shot of mount fuji, this area outside of the restaurant is guaranteed to give you an unobstructed view of mount fuji barring any weather problem of course. Although our stay at this hotel was brief, we enjoyed it very much, in fact it was both a memorable and pleasant one. Wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely recommend this hotel.
