Nestled near natural wonders and Mt. Fuji, Wakakusa no Yado Maruei is celebrated for its prime location and serene onsen facilities. While opinions on value vary, with some guests finding it overpriced, the hotel's traditional Japanese onsen, private baths with views, and culinary offerings receive high marks.
The service at Maruei is consistently lauded for its warmth and attentiveness, contributing to a hospitable atmosphere that many travelers find enhances their visit. Though the traditional rooms boast scenic vistas, there are mentions of outdated appliances and the need for more meticulous cleaning.

We're 2 obsessive foodies so we chose Maruei for the great reviews on the food - both dinner & breakfast sets exceeded our very high expectations! We stayed for 2 nights and they took care to prepare 2 entirely different dinner kaiseki sets for us. Both were insanely wonderful! Every dish was prepared with so much care, every ingredient top notch. While the setup may cause some dishes to go cold a little faster, but the taste were all just *chef's kiss*. The room was also prepared with fresh tea in the pot ready for us after a long day with complimentary famous snacks that were very, very good! We don't travel much, but will sometime travel for food so we can say this trip is totally worth all the hassle with all the trains and the buses we're normally not used to. Highly recommended to fellow foodies everywhere! *Huge note on dietary requirements - they cannot accommodate dietary requests/restrictions. If you have food allergies, it is better to choose elsewhere!

I arrived in the pouring rain at this excellently-staffed ryokan on one of the 5 lakes near Mount Fuji. My traditional room was immaculate and lovely and my 12 course dinner in a private dining room was sublime. A few hours of saki (I had bought at local saki brewer) in my room where I could see the shadows of the lake and hear the rain and then off to a traditional bed. Woke up to sunlight and ducks on the lake and gorgeous mountains. A delicious breakfast and then — top experience of life — a private hot bath with amazing view of Mount Fuji. A total refreshment of life.

Right next to the river and lake, the food is rich and delicious! Beautiful scenery, You can see Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi from the hot springs. The hotel has a special car to pick you up, so transportation is not a big problem Question.
In the hotel, you can soak in four different hot springs, each with its own different scenery. On the 5th floor, you can see Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi. On the 1st floor, there is a bathhouse with two small hot springs. Because it is on the first floor, you can enjoy the view. . Boys and girls have separate bathing sessions at different times. The morning and evening sessions alternate once, so you can enjoy it over two days. One stop and two meals are traditional kaiseki cuisine, which is very rich, delicious and has a very generous portion. The room has plenty of space, but there are spider webs... which can't be avoided in the suburbs.
The hotel's location is quite far away from Kawaguchiko JR Station, and it may take more than 30 minutes to walk. However, you can ask the travel agency at Kawaguchiko Train Station to help you call the hotel to arrange a pick-up.

The Mt. Fuji view outdoor onsen on the 5/F is absolutely spectacular! I would book this hotel just for this view. The kaiseki breakfast & dinner sets were delicious and beautifully presented. We had dinner in a private room on the 3/F, and breakfast the next day on the 2/F main restaurant, with an open lake view. The observatory deck on the 6/F (access from the outside stairs on 5/F) gives you a 360 view of the surrounding Fujikawaguchiko area, including an unobstructed view of Mt. Fuji. We were served welcome green tea & a snack at check-in, the overall service was great, our servers were polite and friendly. I would recommend this traditional ryokan to friends and travellers. Suitable for families. Highlight: the public onsen were not busy, we had it all to ourselves on both occasions, in the afternoon after check-in, and in the morning before breakfast. Essentially it was a private bath for us. The only downside was that the public bath was on the 1/F, so either you shower in your room first or shower on the 1st floor before heading up to the outdoor onsens on the 5/F.

While in Japan for the F1 race, we took an extra week to experience Japan. We were looking for a place offering traditional Japanese amenities, and we hit paydort with this place. From the moment we arrived and greeted by the attentive staff to our departure, it was a submersion in Japanese traditions and culture. The meals were fabulous as I love Sushi and meat while my wife didn't have a lot to choose from as she is a vegetarian but always managed to have something to eat. We chose a washitsu as our room, although I heard they have western style rooms as well, but like I said, we wanted the experience. It was very warm and inviting. Robes and slippers were provided and were expected to be worn at dinner and to the onsen, which by the way was one of the many features of this hotel, a hot mineral bath with a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji. I can't speak highly enough about the Wakakusa no Yado Maruei. 若草の宿 丸栄.

Very friendly staff and traditional place to stay in. A lot of possibilities to spend time nearby and awesome view from the onsen in the room for the Mt. Fuji. Shuttle bus from and to Kawaguchiko Station is an additional plus to save time that could be spent on the relax in reserved bath.

My husband and I booked our stay as a splurge on our honeymoon and it was so worth it! The staff is so incredible and kind and it was the most amazing hospitality I have ever experienced. The provided breakfast and dinner was delicious and served such a huge variety of food! We felt like we got to try everything and were so full after every meal.
When we walked into our room, we were in awe. We booked a traditional room with a futon and the view of the lake from the huge window in our room was so beautiful. The futons were extremely comfortable and we had some of the best nights of sleep here.
The hotel feels very safe as they sign you in when you come back to your room and hold onto your room key for you. They even came in while we were at dinner to refill our hot water kettle and give us ice water for the morning. We would 100% stay here again as walking around the lake and seeing Mt Fuji everywhere was amazing. The view from the roof is incredible too!
They also have onsens available here but we didn’t partake as we have tattoos but we saw plenty of people walking by who did!
1000% recommend for your stay in Fujikawaguchiko.

We stayed one night in this establishment which had been reserved by the travel agency in charge of our tour. The room was spacious with a bedroom with 2 beds and a room to put the futons as well as the table for a private dinner. The bathroom was also spacious with a Japanese bathtub, as well as 2 sinks. We had dinner in a small private lounge which was very nice. The public bath open for men on the 5th floor offered a superb view of Mount Fuji. But the water was very hot, too hot for my taste. Breakfast was Japanese style and unfortunately we weren't very hungry. The reception team was very friendly

Staying at Wakakusa-no-yado Maruei on September 21, 2023 brought the final stain to our Gunma/Nagano/Yamanashi hot spring trip.
The cold Japanese food, the hurried reception, and the careless handling of broken bowls made the impression of this so-called Kawaguchiko hot spring hotel disillusioned.
Two stars are for the spa and the view.
As the saying goes, there is no harm without comparison. Wakakusa-no-yado Maruei is suitable for friends who are experiencing a hot spring hotel for the first time, or for travelers with a tighter budget, because the latter may have different hospitality.
We checked in on Thursday, September 23, during the off-season, and the fee was 47,300 yen. In exchange for a 10-bed river-view room, cold meals and cold dishes, four slices of thinly sliced beef to finish the work.
If Kusanagi no Yado lives up to its name - we are considered clients of Kusanagi, so why bother?

The overall experience is excellent. We really enjoyed the included meals, Japanese-style rooms, the private Mt.Fuji-viewing bath, and the free shuttle bus to and from Kawaguchiko station. The hotel reception is very friendly and professional, they gave us a lot of guidance and even let us borrow an umbrella. The only one thing they could improve on is the cleanliness of the futons and sheets, we saw some hair that belonged to other guests.

I got a non smoking room, very sensitive to cigarette smoke. I think we were on room 203, If anything they had two fans for ventilation. I msged them on agoda- thats the website I had booked them, to ask for a mt fuji view and nonsmoking room. They confirmed nonsmoking but we didnt get a view on mt fuji, but its okay! (They also took a week to reply, compared to the other places we had rserved in japan) the rooftop is very nice, loved my experience there which is why I posted on tripadvisor. I’m trying to remember the list of rules when you check in with green tea if it said it was non smoking. I would highly recommend this place! It was one of the highlights of our japan trip. Please msg them to verify. Sorry for the long reply, I just checked my email- I did msg them on agoda asking to confirm it its a non smoking/ they replied the following: There is no smoking room.
We will do careful ventilation and deodorization. Have fun!!!
From what I believe, there are no rooms with a Mount Fuji view. There is only the top floor scenic lookout point for Mount Fuji, and there is also an onsen room with Mount Fuji views, so if you stay for 2 nights, you will get the onsen with the Mount Fuji view for one of the days of your stay.
"The complementary shuttle from Kamaguchiko bus/train station is only available from 2pm-5pm. Coin-operated storage lockers across the road are cheaper."
