I had booked an all weather proof Swiss Deluxe Tent in advance for my night stays at Magpie Jungle Camp , Dugalbitta on 10th to 13th March , and at it’s sister concern Magpie Eco Retreat , Deoriyatal on 14th to 16th 2020 . Magpie Jungle camp is located at Dugalbitta ( ‘ land between mountains ’ ) fifteen kilometers short of Chopta . I reached the parking of the camp at 1615 on 10th March . To reach the campsite I had to hike 300 m and cross a small stream on one wooden plank . Before crossing the stream I was mesmerized by the breathtaking view of the mighty Chaukhamba peak and Kedar range standing tall in the backdrop of the camp . Before guiding me to my tent , I was ushered in the dining tent where I was served with hot tea and snacks . This tent had many charging points . I could charge my phone and camera batteries in the evening . My tent was capable of resisting heavy rainfall , snowfall and subzero temperature . I was given a hot water bag and a solar lantern . There were ample furniture and blankets . Washroom was clean and having running water . Food offered was clean , fresh and hygienic . Though I was told in advance that the food would be vegetarian and two eggs would be given in the breakfast , I was offered chicken dish at dinner twice . There was raining and snow falling on first two nights . Later I understood that Magpie Eco Retreat , Deoriyatal was closed due to non turning of the guests . So I extended my stay in the Camp upto 16th March . But unfortunately on 13th March , there was so heavy snowfall in the afternoon that I decided to leave the Camp for Sari village . Without any argument / problem , management agreed to my request and permitted me to depart without charging anything extra . All the staff were very co operative and polite . Ankit , Bharat and Sandeep were the gems . They took utmost care of mine . When I would return from the birding in the evening a full dish of hot pakoras and a cup of hot tea / coffee would be served to me within 10 minutes . Whenever I will go for birding in Chopata . I will stay at the Magpie Jungle Camp , again and again .

Pros- 1. Camp staff was very friendly, cooperative and prompt. 2. Food was good. Served hot and hygienic in a buffet manner. 3. Camp furniture, beddings, washroom etc were high quality and in very good condition. 4. Guide Amit was helpful. Another staff Pankaj took pics of us and lit bonfire for us. Cons: 1. At our second morning there, hot running water wasn't available. 2. Solar powered bulb in the camp was 60% times not glowing. 3. We got the stay costly as we booked directly through owner. Our neighbouring campers got it cheaper inspite of online booking for exactly same package. Overall experience was 8.5/10.

The camps have a very beautiful view of the Himalayas. We reached around 7.30pm, and the camp staff graciously welcomed us and took us to the camp site. It was freezing cold and the entire team did everything they could to help us warm up. The meals were great!! Team magpie also went to the extent of arranging our lunch on the top of the chandrashila mountain on the trek. Their entire staff is very courteous and welcoming. Shoutout to Sandeepji and the team. We were a group of 13 people and all 13 of us were very happy with their services. I'd strongly recommend Magpie to ALL
