My husband and I arrived just after 7pm to an empty dining room. The owner seated us and then went and sat down with two other people to continue talking with them. No offer of a drink or menu. We nearly walked out after ten minutes of waiting but others started to arrive so we stayed. We motioned to the... More

Slightly surprised by some of the reviews on here. Sure, the rooms and setting are slightly dated (although our room was spotlessly clean), but the dinner experience is marvellous, with a lovely setting in the old chapel and a very wide and tasty menu (with an English version).

Beautiful setting; former church with stained glass windows, period pieces and works of art. Gorgeous mural above the bar. Nice tapestries. However, with no working knowledge of French, it was extremely difficult (in fact, impossible) to order. Limited and confusing menu with no options.

We booked for one night and very glad that's all it was. The initial welcome, or not as it was, was not a good impression to start off with. The room was small and the bathroom smelt of stale urine from the carpet. The shower tray was, well how do I describe it, yuck! Basically unless your really desperate for... More

The last time I stayed in a hotel as terrible as this was in East Berlin in the 1970s. There might have been an excuse then but in 21st century France this is a disgrace. The room was tiny and smelly, the patronne was unhelpful and rude. Never again.

On arrival asked to pay before seeing room, which smelt strongly of damp and sewerage - refund refused by unpleasant female owner when I complained. I moved to the Hostellerie de la Poste which is superb quality, with pleasant staff, comfortable rooms and good food, and costs very little more.

Very un-assuming place as you enter the lobby and walk through to the chapel. Great ambiance, service and food. The menu is classic French. All was perfect though I can't say I was crazy about the escargot.

We didn't stay at the hotel, this review is of the degustation menu with matching wines in La Chapelle, the impressive chapel used as the dining room. The menu was good quality, with local produce, and matching a wine with each course gave us the opportunity to try several local wines in one sitting. Some of the food and wine... More

We stayed at Auberge de la Chapelle for two nights as part of a cycling holiday. It was located close to the centre of Clamecy so ideal for exploring the town which has a very interesting museum. The room was fairly basic but did have a small fridge. The bathroom was large and recently refurbished. The bedroom decor was a... More
