This place was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids
2 large apartments cojoined so we as parents got privacy with kids room down the other end
Kitchen great, dining room and balcony spacious
Washing machine and dryer. Awesome.
Female front counter staff very happy and helpful
Buffet brekkie great food for the price
Kids loved the 2 pools. Playground and minigolf
Apartment was quiet at all times
Great undercover parking.
The only fault is that the apartment smelt of cigarettes each time we came. Once aired out the smell went
Unsure if smokers had been there or if they need to replace the catpets and furniture due to old smells
Thanksfor a perfect holiday
10 min drive to palm cove restaurants
Must have your own car to be happy here

Our family (3 young children all aged under 10 plus hubby) stayed in a two bedroom apartment mid December 2010.

I'd like to tell you that I wouldn't recommend this resort, however I'd be doing that for purely selfish reasons - so I could keep this little gem a seceret to myself and my closest of friends.

The Positives:
Paradise Palms Resort & Country Club was just beautiful. Our apartment was spacious, modern and clean with full kitchen, inside and outside dinning, a laundry area and two bathrooms. Each room had their own DVD player and flat screen LCD TV, with a small selection of movies available for hire from reception.

We only really ate out for lunch, and had breakfast and dinner (for the most part) in our apartment. A supermarket was located only a 5 minute drive north of the resort for those wanting an alternative to take away and dining out. About 10 minutes drive south of the resort at 'Campus' shopping centre, there was an abundance of take away establishments some of which would deliver or you could collect yourself and eat it in your guest room/s.

There is also a resturant at the resort which opens at 6am and closes at 9pm. The resturant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as light snacks throughout the day. We ate at the resturant once while we were there for dinner, and although the food was nice, it wasn't anything to rave about. A bonus for us, was that our children ate free but the selection on the menu for them was quite ordinary. The staff were wonderful and very attentive however, which made this a hasstle free dinner for a Mum who also needed a well deserved break.

The play area for our children was wonderful, and we had a birds eye view of the area from both of our balconies. Our children especially enjoyed the jumping pillow and fabulous Putt Putt course. There were also three cubby houses, swings, a climbing 'thing' and a play area for smaller children as well, with HEAPS of room for the children to run around in before they cooled down in either the lap pool, or the lovely (and quiet) resort pool.

The golf course also looked AMAZING. Unfortunately we didn't get to play a game of golf as we just ran out of time, however if we ever return to Cairns for a holiday, we will stay here again and play the game of golf at the begining of the holiday.

The negative:
The resort is approximately 16km from Cairns city centre. For us this wasn't an issue as we had a hire car. We were able to easily pop down the street to do some shopping etc however if you didn't have a hire car, I can imagine it would be difficult if you wanted to leave the resort area. Most (infact for us all) tours included transport to and from the tour and our hotel.

There was also a wedding at the resort while we were there, and the guests coming and going from their rooms were quite noisy while we were trying to sleep of a night. But, this was only one night out of the week we were there.

If you're after an action packed holiday that keeps you busy around the clock, I would not recommend this hotel to you. However, if you're after a laid back holiday with young children, I'd recommend you consider this establishment as your base.

We were very happy with our 10 nights at the Paradise Palms resort in December/January. The rooms are spacious and extremely well equipped. A full sized fridge, toaster, microwave and oven, all necessary dishes and food preparation supplies, a dishwasher, and even a washer/dryer in the bathroom! We were able to do all of our grocery shopping at the nearby Coles and prepare breakfasts and dinners at the apartment, as well as packed lunches for all of our days out. With the price of convenience food in Australia, this saved us a fortune! Having come from the USA and staying for such a long stretch, it was also wonderful to be able to do our washing and not worry about rationing the clean clothes. Two sinks in the bathroom was a great treat, the shower was lovely, and the view out over the rainforest from the balcony on which we ate our meals could not have been more perfect. The roadway out front is extremely quiet because the resort is well back away from the main drag (the Captain Cook Highway) and the little road in front of the hotel leads only as far as the clubhouse.

The playground is SUPERB!!! Absolutely wonderful. My son is nearly 8 and loved every minute that he spent out there. There are a variety of play structures for the older kids, three awesome big play houses, a baby play area, a toddler area, and the most fun bounce pillow imaginable! The pools were also great, with a larger lap pool up top that was good for swimming or exercise, and a really warm family pool down near the hotel that we used for our evening swims before bed. Laying in the warm pool as you gaze up at the night sky with palm trees all around -- this was heaven for a Midwesterner in the middle of northern wintertime!

We found our room to be VERY quiet right up until our last two nights. I'm not sure if there hadn't been anybody above us until that point, or if the new residents were simply a whole lot louder. I could hear the endless scraping of chairs on the ceiling, it seemed to last hours, and every scream/shout from the small children, as well as running across the room at all hours of the night. Honestly, I don't know how it could be remedied, but if there were a way to not have the chairs scrape the floors with every move, that would be a huge bonus to anybody staying in the apartments below. It was maddening! But luckily, only for two days.

I would not recommend this resort to people who will not have or hire a car. Part of its charm is that it is well away from the hustle and bustle, but if you won't have access to a vehicle, you also won't be able to go anywhere without paying huge cab fares or relying on coach pickups from your various tours. The resort is a good 30 minute drive from Cairns city.

Now, with all of the praise, why only 3 stars? I would have given it 4 or 5, but there are some very very basic amenities lacking here. First, if you book on a special rate (and who doesn't?), you will receive NO services whatsoever with your stay. You get the room key and that is that. We went out and bought some cleaning supplies so that we could clean as we went, since we were there for 10 nights. However, something that struck as as absolutely ridiculous is that they will not allow you to swap towels. I have stayed at other self-catering resorts and there is a specified time of day in which you can bring your dirty towels to the laundry and have them traded out for clean. Instead, we were washing our towels constantly in the little washer/dryer which used a TON of water and power. It would have made a lot more financial sense for the resort to allow us to swap them at least a few times.

Now, the kicker is this internet deal. I understand that it is less common in Australia to offer free internet at a hotel (though it seems a bit cheap!) than in the US, where it would be unheard of to stay someplace and NOT have internet access in your room. However, they actually charged more for internet access at the resort than at the local places in town. $3 for 20 minutes! Yikes! And then, to top it all off, I happened to be wandering around the playground with my son one evening and found that they have FREE WI-FI access at the restaurant/bar! So, my friends, if you want internet service while staying at Paradise Palms, just head on over to sit poolside or on the bar patio with your phone or laptop and you're good to go. It would have been awfully nice for the front desk staff to have mentioned this when we were enquiring about our internet options and ended up paying for service one evening because I needed to check in back home.

So, again, great resort, great rooms, beautiful setting, but be ready to pay for any and all "extras" which would normally be included in a hotel stay. Bring your own pool towels because they don't offer these, either. We actually ran low on toilet paper half way through and joked that we'd probably be charged for this at the front desk! We drew straws on who had to go and ask for it because everything else that we'd enquired about so far had been met with a price quote!

The hotel is located in a secluded area, very beautiful. Parking is available everywhere. Nice birds on the grass. The room was nice, ample, comfortable bed. But that was almost all. Front desk personnel was far from being gentle. We booked the room for five nights. And for 5 nights they did not clean the room, based on the very much strange alibi of our rate not having housekeeping included. Whaaaaaat? First time ever in my life that I have a hotel without housekeeping (and of course nothing was mentioned at the moment of reservation). Price was cheaper than our Sidney hotels, yes, but I have paid 75 EUR/night in many places for much much more than this. Personnel was rude and dishonest with us, so the room was kept dirty for 5 days, ants (hopefully nothing else) going around... The property also was worn off, pool dirty and all needing renovation. I highly recommend NOT TO GO THERE!

My family and I attended my sister’s wedding over the weekend, everything was beautiful and the staff were enthusiastic and often went out of their way to make the weekend special. The only complaint I have is about one staff member. Unfortunately, this guy decided it was appropriate to cut myself and my girlfriend off prematurely, (after three beers) when my father attempted to address the issue he disappeared. Both my father and mother attempted to communicate with him to resolve the problem but he refused and decided clearing plates was more important than addressing the problem and left a young girl to mediate. He probably didn't realise I was the Maid of honour but alas his actions made not only myself and my girlfriend feel discriminated against but made my parents, the bride and the groom furious to the point where they stockpiled beers on a table for us and started a hashtag #coronasforhayley. At the end of the day his actions fuelled some great solidarity but if you're a bigot with control issues you shouldn't have employment in a customer service role. Strangely enough he only decided to cut me off after he had gotten drinks from the fridge and I asked to change one of them. Sorry you had to switch one beer for another mate but if you're reading this I strongly advise you to either find a new job or do some serious self-work. I hope this matter is followed up because the level of service is absolutely not appropriate for any function let alone a wedding.

My husband and I with our 3 year old, had booked to stay here 20th December but when we arrived, I was ignored for 10 minutes, when I was finally acknowledged, the woman was rude and explained to me that the maximum room occupancy was for 2 people only regardless the age of the child, she then proceeded to tell me that it would cost a further $80.00 for our child to stay there, when asked if what happens if it was a newborn, the rude receptionist stated that it would still have cost an extra $80.00 for the newborn to stay. This is the only hotel I have ever known to do this. Especially if the child/baby sleeps in the same bed as the parents. This place prides themselves on being kid friendly, however, when my child went to look at the water feature in the lobby, the receptionist told me to move my child from there as he was touching the glass and putting grubby fingerprints all over it, my child wasn't even touching the glass. We were very disappointed in the place but did however find a much nicer and more welcomed place 2 minutes drive up the road in Palm Cove where the kids facilities were great

This was our 5th time we have stayed here & each time it has gotten a little worse. We made staying here an annual occasion for our daughters Birthday because of the jumping balloon, play equipment & pools.
The last time we stayed we were very disappointed with the dinner we had at the restaurant & the service was going downhill. We thought it was due to the Resort going into receivership & saving costs.
We thought this year it would be better, but we were mistaken. The check-in girl was nice, the checkout woman not so much.
The play equipment is still good, but the kiddies pool was dirty with quite a few broken tiles in it.
General service from all staff was lacking especially in the restaurant area.
We chose not to eat dinner here this time, but paid for breakfast when booking our accommodation. Breakfast we were told & presumed from previous years was a buffet. However, after getting a staff member who actually cared enough to help us with breakfast we were given a special menu & told we could order something from it.
It was tasty, but very small!

On arrival we were in the wrong and had arrived a day early. The man at the desk said "oh I cant help you I have to go to a meeting" & just walked away, finally another lady came out who was quite helpful and organised us an extra night. Room was neat but toilet bowl had skid marks in it and dirt and bugs in the bath. Towels were dirty and when we asked for more towels we were told we had to pay for them. The view is nice, but pool is crap! Looks absolutely nothing like it does on the internet pictures! No wifi in room, have to pay for pool towls. When we asked for some ice we were told we had to walk over to the golf club to get some. All of these things are not what I expected for a resort at $120 a night! Bed is 2 singles squished together. It is a lovelly view and not too long of a drive into cairns. But I would not recommend this hotel. It probably got its stars just from the views. 1 staff member was lovelly the other 2 we have delt with have been rude and not of service! We were that unimpressed we thought of leaving and loosing our money and staying somewhere else. Please do not believe what you see on their website!!

Where do I start.. bad management, poor marketing, dirty rooms, staff with an attitude problem. I have seen this place go downhill over the last 4 years. Food quality is disgusting and service is terrible.Staff need a lesson in public relations skills.Staff in the golf shop are very rude!!!!!!
Bar needs to be stocked with all ingredients required for drinks on offer.Bar staff need to know how to make drinks ordered.
We got told our room was getting cleaned and it didnt. Why is it up to the paying customer to chase up these things.
This resort needs a complete overhaul and upgrade.Toddler area in the eating area used to have more on offer for younger children but is empty now.
I believe this resort is in receivership and lets hope the new owners take all the comments on board to improve this place. It is the locals that keep this place going in the off season and the talk among us all is that we wont be back.

Paradise Palms is a newly opened resort which has seemingly not become popular with tourists yet. When we arrived, there were literally 3 cars parked outside and for the two days we spent there, we only saw one other guest.

We were given a room looking toward the pool area, which looked lovely and the exact opposite of crowded =) (never got to use it due to our limited time and multiple activities in the Cairns area). The room itself was clearly being used for the first time, smelled like fresh paint and everything was sparkling brand new. It is a regular size, has the usual furnishings (no boutique design or anything like that, but still very nice), an HD flat screen TV, a kitchen-like stand with a small fridge and utensils (the hotel has no room service or restaurant). The bathroom is on the large side with a bathtub and separate shower. What I completely loved is that the bathroom and the bedroom shared a wall which had a window opening into the bedroom. It really 'added space' to the bedroom (see attached pics).

The hotel didn't seem to be extensively staffed (not that it needs at this point), but we requested some things from reception and we were asked to come down and pick them up, as opposed to someone delivering them to our room. No biggie, but it shouldn't normally happen at a hotel which markets itself as 4.5 star.
Wireless internet was not (yet) available while we were at the resort, and paid LAN was just installed - we surfed the net for free on the first night, and paid 20AUD on the second night.

The hotel is located about a 40min drive from Cairns airport in the Northern Beach area (Kewarra Beach). A car is a must, I think - this way, you can easily explore Cairns or Port Douglas, or make day trips to the Daintree/Cape Tribulation area.

All in all, this hotel has a good potential and I would repeat if I am ever in the Cairns area.
