Half Moon Bay Resort was absolutely perfect and included everything you'd ever need. My husband and I stayed in one of the apartments for 10 days and were more than comfortable. These very clean apartments all come with a washer and dryer for your laundry and the kitchen has everything you'd need to eat in if you want to save money on eating out. Renting a car is inexpensive and a must. Driving in Cairns is quite easy! John and Carolynne (Half Moon Bay managers) are absolutely wonderful. They did everything for us - planned our dive trips, booked all of our tours, and gave us advise on all of the must-see sites in the Cairns/Northern Queensland area. They also picked us up at the airport when we arrived and dropped us off at the car rental place so that we could pick up our rental car.
This quaint resort exceeded our expectations and is an excellent alternative to the more expensive resorts in Cairns. You definitely get MORE than your money's worth by staying here.
Yorkey's Knob is a neat little town with VERY easy access to downtown Cairns. All of the popular sight-seeing spots were very easy to find, and the drive to all of them was just breath-taking. There is no question that we will stay at Half Moon Bay Resort again!

Just got back to England from Cairns and had to write a review on our accommodation. Half Moon Bay Resort Holiday Apartments at Yorkeys Knob was the best. A little out of town which was great and central to everthing. The Managers treated us like family and we really got the personal service. The apartment we stayed in was exceptionally clean, well appointed and looked after. The gardens are just looking great too. We were within walking distance of a small shopping centre and cafe plus the yacht club was nearby too where the food was great. The bonus was that you didn't have to walk there, they have a complimentary shuttle service. It is certainly a place I would stay at again and would recommend to anyone travelling to Cairns. We had a wonderful stay and the managers booked all our tours and we just had a fantastic time.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 days in July 2003. We were starting a tour on the east coast of Australia and we wanted somewhere to relax first. This was perfect, its the real Cairns. The manager picked us up from the Airport and took us on a quick tour of the area. The 2 managers were really helpful and friendly, they were happy to book any tours for us, they offered us some milk for tea and were always there if we needed them. Our room, well it was more of an apartment, it was huge, it had a kitchen area, lounge, tv, air conditioning, bathroom and washing and drying facilities, much needed by us. We went into the centre of Cairns for the day, the bus stop is at the top of the road, it takes a good 20 min but we only went in once. We spent the rest of the time on the lovely remote beaches relaxing. The boat club is good for dinner, but quite busy. We booked through asia hotels and it was so cheap, the best place we have ever stayed.

My family and I stayed at Half Moon Bay for 9 nights and enjoyed every minute. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and very well equipped, including all kitchen requirements. Even though it was full, we never did hear other guests. The facilities were excellent with a great pool and spa, nice gardens, a locker room for golf clubs and an excellent BBQ area. The hosts were fantastic and helped us to decide which tours were the best value for money for a family. The ones we chose were fantastic (Quicksilver reef trip to Low Isles, Kuranda train and skyrail, Hartley's crocodile and White Water Rafting on Barron River- in case you're wondering). They even added straight to my account! I strongly recommend HAlf Moon Bay Resort and look forward to going there again next year.

My wife and I have just returned from a fantastic 8 day holiday in Cairns. We did some research and looked at many hotels and resorts in the area. We finally choose the Half Moon Bay Resort after reading a few of the reviews on TripAdvisor and it was a central point for the trips we had planned to do. We arrived at the resort early evening and found the unit key plus introduction letter stuck to reception door. Our unit was clean and tidy and had all the basics such as soap, milk etc to get us started. The resort was just two minutues from the golf course and a short drive to the nearest shopping centre. Some of the reviews we read and certainly Half Moon Bay Resorts own promotional material claim to be only 10 minutes or so from Cairns Domestic Airport, which it is, what it fails to tell you is that you are on the flight path for all incoming aircraft. On our first night we eventually went to sleep around 11.30pm after the last flight came in, only to be woken up around 04.30am the next morning as the first flight of the day flew above the resort!!!! Not a good introduction to our first day. The noise from the aircraft’s engines were that bad we had only one option. We packed our bags and approached the resort manager with our feedback, only to be told "No body else has complained about the noise".!! We left the resort disappointed with their response , minus some accommodation costs we were bound to pay for due to their cancellation policy. We will not be returning to the Half Moon Bay Resort and would not recommend it.

It is always disappointing to receive unfavourable reviews from our guests. As noted by this response our guest was influenced by some great reviews of Half Moon Bay Resort on Tripadvisor. The resort is located close to facilities, is reasonably priced, the apartments are clean and well appointed. We are directly opposite the scenic Half Moon Bay golf course, a nature reserve and a haven for birdlife. Many of the northern beaches of Cairns and even Cairns itself, is in the flight path of the airport (depending on wind direction). The airport is situated close to Cairns, approx 5 kms from the city and about 12 kms from Yorkeys Knob. Situated so close and convenient to the airport obviously brings associated noise. This guest is the only guest that has complained and departed early due to the aircraft noise. He was not entitled to receive any refund, due to our cancellation policy that he was sent at the time of his booking (no refund for early departure). I was within my rights to charge the guest the full amount of his 8 night booking, but I only charged him 1-2 nights accommodation for his early departure.

me and my wife stayed here for 5 nights. The apartment was basic looking at first glance but it's actually very homely and very clean. It has all the necessary amenites to get by (microwave, washer, dryer etc). we paid under $100aud per night which was outstanding value for money considering most motels charge around 120 so you won't find better for the price. it was under new ownership when we arrived and they were very accomodating. there's a small saltwater pool at the front of the apartments which is quite nice and plenty of sunchairs. The golf club is practically next door also. the area itself (yorkeys knob) is very quiet so a car is a necessity. there's a couple of takeaways and restaurants in the area along with a shop, off licence and a car rental place. we travelled into cairns city by bus on our first few days and this took around 35mins or 15 by car. if it's a quiet break you're looking for then it doesn't get any quieter than this little resort. if you want to go drinking then it's not the spot to be in and taxis from cairns to this resort will cost around 40 australian dollars. its also very close to some of the local attractions such as kuranda skyrail, hartleys crocodile adventure and the night zoo. there is a little aircraft noise around 5am but it doesnt last long and it never woke me up although it woke my wife up a couple of nights. Its not constant though. overall id recommend it highly for those on a budget or those who want a nice peaceful break in a quiet location. we are in our mid thirties.

We were limited in our choices for an exchange for our RCI vacation points, and this seemed like a good location for exploring the Cairns area for a week, and it worked for that. The room was comfortable and clean, and having laundry facilities in the room was very convenient. It turned out not to be much of a "resort", though, without any view, and an unheated pool and spa that are too cold to use in June. A local resident had the TV loud in the evening, which was a bit distracting. Ellen was helpful with advice and booked our train excursion. We booked our own dive trip out of Port Douglas, though Scuba Dave, whom we highly recommend. We ate at the Yorkey's Knob Boating Club a couple of times, which had good food and a nice view of the small harbour. If we came to this area again, we would probably look for accommodations in or near Port Douglas, as it is closer to activities and more likely to have resort-like amenities and views.

If you want the perfect peaceful holiday on a budget this is the place to be, on arrival Ellen immediatly made us feel relaxed. When showed to our apartment we were pleasantly suprised at the size and the cleanliness. The apartment had everything we needed, including a washing machine and dryer in the bathroom. When the toaster failed to work Rick repalced it immediatly. Ellen arranged all our trips and car hire for us and was extremely knowledgable about all of the trips. I would not hesitate to recommend Half moon bay resort to anyone visiting Australia.

We went 18 days in Australia. We went to Sydney, we camped in Alice Spring and Darwin and finished in Cairns in Half Moon Bay resort. We were so well welcomed by Helen, our room was perfect, we had a small kitchen, but so clean with everything we needed. What I really liked was the service and the cleanliness. What I didn't know when I booked was that we were at 20 minutes from Cairns the center. So we had to take the bus if we wanted to go in town. But I have to say it's part of the adventure. The resort is in Yorkeys Knob, a small village. We can walk from the resort to a small cafe, a grocery store, a liquor store, ... all we need to have a great moment.
